Can u do this using a ipad ?
Have the Nano Cortex. Love the captures. Best I have heard. Long time jazz player and clean amp aficionado. My favorite clean amps are the Mesa Boogie Mark V, PRS Archon, Jazz Chorus 60/120. Mark V being the go to for modern clean tones. I am going to be capturing a 1979 JC-60 soon, via its 12” speaker, with an ATM650 mic. I think it’s going to be sweet.
Hi davlav!! Than ks for sharing with us your knowledge. One question that I thi nk is missing and very useful. What about dotted eight delay? how to configure and set that delay? Gracias amigo!!!Regards
QUESTION !!! I see you have to amp blocks and you can switch between them … like in stomp mode put them on the same button and switch back and fourth … how do you do that ????
Turn one amp block on and the other off. Then you just assign both to the same switch in stomp mode.
@ that’s so cool !!! Hope I do it right ! Was gonna have one amp for one guitar and amp 2 with the same amp just different guitar !
It's odd that putting the same amp side by side doesnt increase volume. You would expect them to sound the same but volume should increase 3dB. For example if you copy paste a guitar track in a DAW that is what will happen, as opposed to double tracking
I too love this amp, and think it has some great clean sounds in it. Once you push it however, I think the low end becomes too flubby for my tastes. The Archer helps a bit in this regard, but as much as i love this amp for the cleaner tones, I prefer other options for the mid-gain stuff. Keeping the volume in the 3-5 range seems to be its sweet spot IMO. Thanks for comparing the modes like this. I prefer the vibrato mode for most uses I think, but again, I am mostly a humbucker player, so my choices may not mirror yours. Even with the humbuckers however, i do use the high input mode. Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
Completely agree on how the low end gets too loose.
Big time lurker here, and I don't own a quad cortex (yet). I love your videos. Hopefully I'll be getting a quad cortex in the next few months, and I can try out your presets
I'm a bit biased, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. I love mine.
I like the Archer Ikon the best.
This sounds great! I would love to see you do a rory gallagher preset. Just bought a QC RED/GOLD and discovered your channel and I have a bunch of videos open in separate tabs already. Can't wait to get through them and learn more! I have watched a couple of your tone creating vids and you are very detailed! The mid boost in this preset to account for Claptons in-guitar preamp. the Iron maiden jmp1 setting to tighten up the low end. Really good attention to detail. I would love to see you do a rory gallagher preset. I think you would nail it. I love his Tattoe'd lady Rockpalast 77 performance. The part where he gets so absorbed doing the volume swells etc. I havent seen him do that in another performance. If you could do a video on capturing that tone that would be amazing!

Amalgam Captures + York Audio IR's = Unbeatable Tone
Eventually, can I produce the ICHI10 SSS sounds with that guitar ? More versatile ? Thanks for feed back
Any problems? I’ve seen a few distressing reviews claiming “freeze ups” bad circuit boards etc
Nothing. It's been rock solid.
I wish the middle position could split the pickups like in EBMM JP15. I miss this feature so much! But its good to see the SS frets upgrade and the finish is on fire!
Nice wet/dry concept for the delays with the split down the middle. That said, I use mono for most of my QC stuff. For live playing, it's just more practical for me. Great sounding Tele btw...
Couldn't agree more. Clean and edge = Deluxe. More overdriven stuff: I did like your Lonestar. At least on my Adam monitors. Definitely will check out that patch from the cloud. I'm also interested in that IR combo. Have not tried that before. I will say that that free package of IR's from Amalgam has come in mighty handy with the Fenders, Voxes and Marshalls that I'm using. And thanks for keeping the delay subtle. Too many folks comparing amp models have them so full of goo as to be distracting lol...
I got mine yesterday. I've been playing it through an amp. It doesn't seem to work very well for that. It's super bright and thin. I knocked the treble on the amp back to half what I would normally use, and it's still too bright. The clean settings on the Tank-G work better. I haven't had time to really get into that much yet. But is there any sort of global tone control accessible through the software to roll back some of that treble and otherwise beef it up? It sounds way tiny compared to my usual setup. And I have the treble on the Tank-G rolled all the way down. I'm playing the presets and in the live mode. Same issue with both.
The new models have the upgraded US Maryland knobs that are stiffer and less likely to be bumped by accident.. I have many PRS guitars and others. Great review. Your playing is very tasteful.
Yeah I bought one in exactly The same finish With the Vintage Cherry Period And yes I love it
The presence on the Lone Star is a high cut (not a traditional presence control in the power amp feedback loop). So turn it all the way up to get a closer match to the 64.
You might want to try the Vibrato Channel with no bright cap and the treble back up a little - it's in the drop down menu there. Many pro real life users remove the bright cap - it helps the drive with the channel volume is below 5.
The Lone Stars are the Fenders of the Mesa/Boogie family
Thanks Dav! ❤
Once again, great video, and extremely helpful to hear the comparison. I recently swapped out the lone Star and replaced it with the 64 for my clean tones, and i really love it. I am playing with humbuckers, and to be honest, my clean tone has slightly more grit than yours. I do not like flubby low end, so I need to go back and check to see how I have the bass set on mine. Like you say, they are both good and usable in different situations for different players. I had nothing against the Lone Star when I swapped it out, I just wanted to try the Fender to see how I liked it. I might go back and try my Lone Star patch now and see if my opinion has changed! I also find your comment interesting about how Neural DSP seem to be adding new models that take up a bit more DSP. I obviously love improved tones when unavailable, but some of my complex scenes might start running out of power! 😱 Thanks again for all you do!
The 64 has became my go to amp for blues rock stuff
Get a boss GE 7 ....then you can have any pick up you require
Only the cleanest of settings of the new amp sounded usable for me. And that said, a super clean sound like that is not something I find I reach for within a band or recording process, because it has no life , sparkle and struggles to cut live or in a mix. My clean sound is often the Lone Star dirty channel set with the gain very low, almost off. Then I can play light and get clean with character, dig in and get the sound of the amp starting to push or stack a drive and it REALLY sounds like an amp starting to run hot instead of just an overdrive pedal in front of an amp, a tone I find unsatisfying.
How do you like to set the EQ dial? Normal, Think, or Thicker?
Thanks for the comparison. I haven't spent much time with the 64 model yet. The Fender sounds a bit more dynamic to me so works better clean. Pushing very dynamic amps can make them too boisterous which your comparison shows. Still, it's encouraging that NDSP's models can behave like real amps.
Please would you be so kind as to create the exact preset tone of the song: the best of times Dream Theater the solo thanks I wish you could I would love it
64 for the cleans, LS for the lead tone. Both great, and yet another great video. Your QC vids are easily my fave QC content on YT, not least because you generally live in a similar tonal and stylistic space to me. The videos where you try the most popular captures / amps / presets on the Q Cloud are fab as well. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks, I really appreciate that.
I agree with best content for QC. I appreciate your insights.
I love your videos. I'm always learning multiple things. Thanks.
Agree, this is my favorite channel for QC content. It has been really helpful to learn how to build effective presets.
I still prefer the LS. The 64 to me has higher mids popping through . I think single coils/ humbuckers will define the ultimate preference . I could hear at times that both amps have benefits. So perhaps a dual amp setup would be good?
How is it latency-wise?
Latency is good.
If you push it more than 3 semitones starts to fall apart. The DigiTech Drop is better but it is really expensive compared to this pedal. In that one the quality is better and it doesn't have the chorus effect or the hiss that the mooer have
It’s choppy. Trust me. Get an Eventide pitchfactor
This is awesome . Huge FAN of your presets. Thank you for sharing. Cheers !
Good information. The only thing I'd add is that by not utilizing the input adjustments in the I/O, you aren't optimizing your noise floor. These inputs are the only spot that controls the analog to digital converter signal. If you're just jamming in your bedroom and it sounds fine to you, then it's probably okay, but if you're recording songs into a DAW with multiple guitar and bass tracks, and aren't optimizing your noise floor, it is going to add up quick. The best practice for the cleanest signal is to set the I/O input as high as you can without clipping. However, if you do this, you will, of course, homogenize all of your guitars to have the same output into the amps. To compensate for this, you can put a utility gain block at the very start of the signal chain with an exact inverse setting to what the I/O input is set at. For example, if you have to add 6db in the I/O to a single coil strat to get close to clipping, you can then add a utility gain block with a -6db setting to the digital signal on the grid to make the guitar interact with the amp the way that it would naturally while still optimizing the noise floor. This is a really great video that explains all of this far better than I can: th-cam.com/video/gJ59h7xfvdI/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Man, the dry and doubler trick is amazing
Yeah, I was happy with how it turned out.
That sounds awesome!
Is this Edit software available for Nano too?
There's a mobile app that connects to the Nano. The desktop app only supports the Quad.
I've watched a half-dozen or so videos about this thing. Yours is by far the best. Mine's on the way. It will certainly make my recording efforts a lot easier, and better. The only thing, well two things, I don't love is that the modulation function is after distortion. I love phasers, but there's nothing worse than a phaser post-distortion. The other thing, I wish it had an effects loop. But that's a minor thing since I would want most effects before the unit anyway.
I think it's because they've grouped all the modulation effects together. I agree that the phaser would come before but it's very common for the chorus and flanger to come after. For $80, I'm not sure you can expect more. Even the $550 Nano Cortex does not have an effects loop.
@@davlavmusic7070 Yeah, except for the phaser it's not a big deal. I generally don't use modulation effects with distortion anyway.
Love it.
This is gold! Like many below, I'm new to the QC and you've just opened up a whole new world! Thank you!
I'm glad it was helpful!
Thanks very much. My only thought is that for a lot of us for live use, a stereo rig just isn’t practical.
I eased into the ToneX world after being a very happy HX Stomp user by going with the ToneX One. I use the ToneX 1 with thru my HX loop. Really like the amp captures. However the added effects in the update are just too inconvenient to setup and use on the ToneX 1. You have to create a new preset with the new effects and amp model. You can't apply the new effects on existing amp models in your library.
I find myself loving that 64 deluxe capture for sure. I mentioned this in an earlier post on one of your videos, but on one of my presets it has replaced the Lone Star capture for my clean patch. 😱 I know that is blasphemy for you since it is your favorite capture! This is definitely heavy with the delay, but that's easily adjusted. I love the lead tone you got here. Really, really nice. I've never been a fan of any kind of fuzz, and this one is no different for me even though it is bass-centric, It still sounds too flubby for me! I'm going to play around with the split like you have here with a dry signal mixed in with the wet signal. I'm not sure how that's going to change the sound compared to using the mix knob on the delays, but there should be a difference for sure using this method with the doubler. I always learn something new from watching your videos! Thanks again!
Yeah, the new Fender model gives the LS a run for its money. I still think the LS is more flexible, has more control. But this new Fender does what it does very well.
Swamp what?😂
🤣
Thanks!
Thane so much!
thanks a lot for adding the playing camera. I have been following your videos for quite some time, using your presets (thank you!) on both the QC and the Nano, and always wanted to see how you play what I hear in your videos!
I'll try to do it more. If it's extra effort, but you're not the first person to ask for it.
Completely agree. It sorta connects the tones being heard with the attack of the note/playing style - or something like that. Bonus: stealing licks, poorly in my case.
@@begooode380 stealing licks is the bonus that comes with seeing how they are actually being played 😄
There is a Cortex preset out in the cloud called “FG Jazz”, and I am wondering what the amp model is. It’s pretty dark but also clear, and I am trying to figure out which amp it is modeled / captured after? I think only QC users can see that info in the GUI / chain, and I have a Nano and cannot see that info. The creator of FG Jazz is a “ghost”…I think it may be a Henricksen, but not sure.
When I search the Cortex Cloud I don't find anything called "FG Jazz" either.
Thanks, great tone!
Love the clean tones but overall way too much delay for me. But I just don't like the delay.
It is heavy on the delay. Part of what I was trying to do was try out using the circular delay so that definitely puts it high in the mix.
Thanks for sharing this preset, it sounds very good!
