The Craig Reconstruction: Skyfall (Part One)

It’s been four years since we last saw James Bond on movie screens. Since Quantum of Solace there have been behind-the-scenes forces at work to hinder 007 from a return - namely MGM Studios declaring bankruptcy.
This would delay production on Bond 23 and would make fans wonder when James Bond would be back and if Daniel Craig would return to the role. After things got sorted out it was announced he would be back wearing his tux and the name of the film would be called Skyfall.
Sam Mendes would seem an unexpected selection as director. Skyfall would mark 007’s fiftieth anniversary on movie screens. The series’ past and of Bond himself would run throughout the story of Skyfall. The aging secret agent would find himself dealing with a new younger world, his place in it and his own personal history.
The film would also focus more on Judi Dench’s M than ever before. She would also have her own personal demons from the past coming back to haunt her and be a threat to not only herself, but of all of MI6. The story would be meant to bid a final farewell to Dench and her character from the series.
Along with the theme of the past, Skyfall would also look ahead to the future of the series. The return of favorite characters would be re-introduced and be updated for a new era of the series.
Starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench. Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes, I take a look at Skyfall.
Initially, I had hoped to have this project done a very long time ago. But things came up that prevented me from focusing on working on it, so work on it dragged out much longer than I anticipated. That seems to be a continuing hurdle with these projects. If you want to learn more about that I’ll post it on my blog.
Also, similar to how my other Bond projects evolved and have gotten longer and more indepth with each new entry, my look at Skyfall continues that pattern. It is much longer than I ever imagined it would be. That wasn’t my intention when I began work on this. But what the heck, I guess I found more to say about the movie than I originally thought. Plus, it wouldn’t be much fun if I just simply said, “I liked it”.
Hopefully, this will provide some entertainment to my Bond followers. Hearing that these projects provide some entertainment to some fellow Bond fans is a real motivator for me to continue to do them.
I’m going to hope TH-cam doesn’t pull any of these parts, as they have with some previous projects. I'm going to post the subsequent parts throughout the week and see if TH-cam has any problems with them.
    Part 2 - • The Craig Reconstructi...
    Part 3 - • The Craig Reconstructi...
    Part 4 - • The Craig Reconstructi...
All my missing Bond projects that I've done that have been removed from TH-cam are available to watch on my website:

Promotional tours, as they turn out, are SO useless, in fact, that Naomie Harris managed to film her ENTIRE Oscar-nominated role in the Oscar-winning film "Moonlight" during a three-day weekend break in the Mexico City leg of the promotional tour for "SPECTRE".
    THAT's how useless they are.

Oh, I fully agree on the nonsensical mediacircus that the pressinterviews och conferences are. It's so much fluff and repetition of boring questions over and over by mostly nonfans. The pressconfernce för Skyfall had one of the more cringeworthy questions for me when a reporter from the swedish paper Aftonbladet (I'm a swede myself) asks Craig if he thinks there are any simularities between Bond and the character he played The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, Michael Bomqvist, just because the book is swedish and she desperatly wanted a swedish connection to the movie! I mean, if I was there I would have asked questions about my speculation that the movie would take some inspiration from Fleming's The Man With The Golden Gun. The speculation revolving around the hints about a "shocking plot" being that Judi Dench's M would die and that Ralph Fiennes would play the new M and be the same M as Bernard Lee, Miles Messervy. M in the novell remarks on how his predecessor was killed in his own office.
And not only did I get it very close, Fiennes became a new M, but the whole part of MI6 believing Bond to be dead, him being out of shape and being given a last chance to prove himself is in the book.
These are the things that are interesting to ask about. There are still plenty of elements in the books that haven't been touched upon yet and asking about the Fleming influence can give thoughtprovolking answers for fans without spoiling anything.
But the press will always be the press, they're more interested in stalking Connery to public bathrooms then anything related to filmmaking or storytelling. Connery's "gadget" sells more papers.

I can't believe how self-absorbed people are in those kinds of situations. It's like if you saw a celebrity on the street and wanted to tell them you're their "biggest fan" or ask for their autograph. How can a normal empathetic person not stop and think that maybe you're the over 9000th nobody that day approaching them and that shit might get old for them? Either way, two seconds thought should change the *way* you do it. Starting with an awareness of what they are doing, whether it's a convenient time, so whether you should even approach them at all, etc.
What really bugs me is the far-too-common, "I saw [insert celebrity here] in the street, asked him for an autograph and he was a real dismissive dick to me", story. Implying that - despite their easygoing on-screen persona - they must just be an arrogant dick IRL who thinks they are better than everyone else, (and the storyteller uncovered their secret). As opposed to them just being a human being who is understandably annoyed at having his meal in a restaurant and/or private conversation interrupted by yet another ill-mannered slobbering jackass who wants something.
It's really incredible how selfish that shit is too. Like when I bring up that possibility they'll say something like, "All I was asking him to do was take two seconds to sign something. I was telling him how much I loved his work. He should feel good about it, and be nice to his fans. I was doing him a favour!"
Nope. That's what you *think* you would like people to do to *you* if you were famous.
You can really see the same attitude with these small-time local fluff reporters too. They get all dolled up to meet the big celebrity and often try to flirt and shit. The male reporters will try to have some of the cool rub off on them or something. It's not about asking them real questions, or even helping their organisations participate in promoting the movie, it's all just about me-me-me. My chance to meet and rub elbows with the big star.
Any wonder those actors get pissed off. I don't think it's just the repetitive questions, but the obvious and shallow attitudes of the people they're dealing with, and as you point out, it's impossible for viewers with a brain not to notice.
I broke my arm when I was like eight years old. People would see my cast and ask me the same stupid questions as if it was any of their business or I was interested in telling the same story over and over. I was sick of it by the second time, so I kinda know dat feel bro, or at least know enough to know you couldn't pay me enough to be famous.

Skyfall is a very good execution of a dubious plot. Acting, locations and stunts are all great but half of Skyfalls plot is stolen from other movies.
Bond pursues a dude on motorbike (Tomorrow Never Dies)
Bond fights a dude on the top of a train (Octopussy)
Bond is left for dead just before the title sequence (You Only Live Twice)
MI6 is blown up in a terrorist attack (The World Is Not Enough)
The villain is a former MI6-agent (GoldenEye)
Than the whole structure of the movie is very similar to the structure of Batman Dark Knight.
The villain (The joker/Silva) is not after the hero (Batman/Bond) but after a third party (Harvey Dent/M) and actually gets away with it (Harvey Dent turns into Twoface/M gets killed) and both villains get caught by the police somewhere along the line only to break free.
After having succeeded they both get caught/killed.
I´m surprised the people behind Batman Dark Knight didn´t sue the Bond producers for copy pasting.
