Shopping List for How to Install a Ceiling Fan on a Cathedral Ceiling:
Remote-control ceiling fan with light kit
    - 14-3 and 14-2 nonmetallic electrical cable, used to power the switch and fan
    - Electrical tape
    - Old-work fixture box and blank cover plate, for concealing wire connections
    - Pancake electrical box with cable connector, used to mount the ceiling fan
    - Twist-on wire connectors, for joining together electrical wires
    - 36-inch-long downrod, used to lower the fan from the ceiling
Tools List for How to Install a Ceiling Fan on a Cathedral Ceiling:
    - Screwdriver
    - Needle-nose pliers
    - Drywall saw, used to cut access holes in wall and ceiling
    - Cordless drill with 3/4-inch-diameter bit, for boring cable holes
    - Fish tape, used to pull wires
    - Scaffolding and ladders, for working at ceiling height
    - Linesman pliers, for cutting and twisting wires
    - Wire strippers, used to remove insulation from wires
Steps for How to Install a Ceiling Fan on a Cathedral Ceiling:
    1. Turn off the electrical power to a nearby wall switch
    2. Unscrew the cover plate and switch from the switch box.
    3. Use needle-nose pliers to snap off the plastic tab from the rear of the switch box.
    4. Use a drywall saw to cut an access hole in the wall near the ceiling directly above the switch box.
    5. Drill a 3/4-inch-diameter hole through the top wall plate.
    6. Use a drywall saw to cut a second access hole in the ceiling on the opposite side of the wall.
    7. Push a fish tape through the hole in the switch box and up to the access hole at the top wall plate.
    8. Attach a length of 14-3 electrical cable to the lower end of the fish tape, and pull the cable up through the wall to the access hole at the top wall plate.
    9. Push the fish tape from the top plate to the second access hole in the ceiling.
    10. Attach the cable to the fish tape, then pull the cable across the ceiling to the second access hole.
    11. Cut a round hole in the ceiling at the ceiling-fan location.
    12. Push the fish tape from the second access hole down to the ceiling-fan hole.
    13. Attach a 14-2 electrical cable to the end of the fish tape, then pull the cable to the second access hole.
    14. At the second access hole, install an old-work plastic fixture box, then make the wire connections: white to white, black to black, and bare copper ground to bare copper ground. Leave the red wire unattached.
    15. Screw a blank cover plate over the fixture box.
    16. Snap a cable connector onto a pancake box, pull the cable through the connector, then screw the box to the roof rafter.
    17. Install a 36-inch-long downrod to the ceiling fan.
    18. Screw the fan's mounting bracket to the pancake box, then fasten the fan's brace to the bracket.
    19. Hang the ceiling fan's ball joint onto the brace.
    20. Make the wire connections at the fan box, then attach the fan blades to the ceiling fan.
    21. Install the light kit to the underside of the fan.
    22. Make the wire connections at the switch box, then reinstall the switch and cover plate.
    23. Turn on the power and test the operation of the fan and light.

RED- wire is extra, (in case you add a light fixture in the future) so you don’t connect that one to anything
Copper/ ground goes together with all the other ones
White- wire goes with the white wire behind the switch (if the switch has an extra insert hole) or add a wire-nut to secure the extra wire for the fan.
Black- wire same procedure as white but obviously for the the black wire.
The biggest issue is always having enough space for all the wires

You complain about the holes in the ceiling, I live in Europe, this style of building houses is unthinkable in my country. The houses are made of concrete and solid bricks you need a hammer drill to do this same job in Europe. All wire channels through the concrete should be cuted, and repaired with construction glue or concrete then smoothing and then painting. What a MESS it is guys!!! This holes is a game trust me!

bill smith keep the piece you cut out. Get small strips of wood longer than the hole. Put in back of wall, secure with screws. Put cut out piece back with screws into the new backing wood you just put in. Spackle and paint. Easy.

Simple fix. Use a shallow cut-in box. Put a blank cover on it. Done...As the cost to fix that hole. Is 10x more to repair..

If this guy is a master electrician. I can’t believe he dosent use a 4-5” hole saw for cutting holes in drywall. It gives clean perfect holes. And they even make a drillers bowl to catch all the dust when you cut into drywall.

Because there is an NEC table. In the code book that tells you...And no sane person would use that bulb today. They get hot.....100 watts\120 volts=1 amp, plus the fan motor rating. Which is around 1 amp... So not an issue...

Come on now. taht 100w halogen. This is in 2015? You can get the same lumens, same kelvin, with LED at 15w. Also, halogens burn out quicker and at least 50w is wasted on heat.

The oils on your skin will damage a halogen bulb. I believe that 100 percent. No doubt about that. When I worked at the roller skating rink, I was the facility lighting coordinator and my assistant and I were changing the light bulb in the spotlight for the disco ball. He touched the halogen bulb for the disco ball with the bare hands. At first, the lamp was okay but it later exploded during the hokey pokey. It sounded like gunfire and put the rink into a lockdown and the swat team was dispatched. Skaters went pouring out the fire exits and the whole bit. Instantly put the hokey pokey in the toilet. The hokey pokey was ruined. The on standby rink resource officer yelled into his police radio, "Shots fired!" On and on. Now, this was shortly after the Virginia Tech so, you can only imagine that everyone was on edge. Well, all of this madness was caused by a halogen bulb that had exploded. And, the bulb was touched. So, the mural is, don't touch the bulb. Halogen bulbs are made of quartz, and oils from shin will deform the quartz. When the bulb is in operation, it gets hot. The heat boils the oils. The boiling oil causes the quartz to explode. So, you have to handle the halogen bulb with toilet paper. And, if you accidentally touch the bulb with your pare skin, clean it with rubbing alcohol. If you don't have rubbing alcohol, liquor alcohol can also be used to clean halogen bulbs.
