How to Replace a Ceiling Fan - DIY Step by Step Guide

  • In this video I show you step by step how to change out a ceiling fan. If you are simply looking to update an older fan to a newer fan, then this can be a very easy project to do yourself in as little as a couple of hours and with very few tools. There are some situations that a licensed electrician should be involved unless you have a very in depth knowledge of electrical work, but if you enjoy doing projects yourself then in many cases this project can be tackled with very little electrical knowledge required. You do want to make sure you purchase a fan appropriate for the size of the room. This information should be provided on the box as I show in the video.
Tools you will need: Phillips head screw driver, electrical tape, wire cutters. There may be other tools needed depending on the specific fan you install but most of the required parts will come with the fan. A drill may make removing a couple of the older screws a little quicker but it shouldn't be necessary.
    Time Stamps:
    Intro: 0:00 - 1:47
    Removing The Old Fan: 1:48 - 4:21
Opening the New Fan Box: 4:23 - 6:07
Installing New Fan Motor Bracket and Setting Motor: 6:08 - 9:51
Connecting Electrical Wires and Mounting Fan Motor to Bracket: 9:52 - 11:10
Connecting Light Bulb Attachment to Fan Motor: 11:11 - 11:46
    Adding Last parts: 11:47 - 12:19
Checking The Fan and Lights are Working: 12:19 - 13:22
    Recap: 13:22 - End

Single woman here, I love TH-cam University! Thank you for this! I’ve been needing to replace a broken light (old ceiling fang just like yours actually). I’m convinced I can do it after this video. I’ve already tacked a heating unit, sump pump, sink pipes & washer. Now a ceiling fan. Wish me luck! Thank for your detailed video!

It is funny, I had some people tell me that I have a Google degree. The dumbest comment ever. We can learn sooooo much from pros like this one. Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Speaking of house fires, I cleaned out 2.5 gallons worth of dryer lint from my dryer and vent pipe. The numb nuts' that installed it crushed the rigid flex duct so bad that there were holes in it. I had to remove lint that was literally burnt from behind the dryer basket as well where the heating elment is. Scary sh*t. Luckily in our household we never have the dryer running when not at home. Shouldn't even do it while sleepinghonestly.
My Father asked me to replace a ceiling fan in his apartment that he rents which is why I am here. I work on much more complicated projects on a daily basis. But I love to watch TH-cam videos before doing some tasks for the first time.
Thanks a lot for the video sir.

If I go higher than the second step on a ladder I get very dizzy so to solve that I will call a professional electrician to do the install. Besides, my orthopedic surgeon told me to stay off ladders because I already shattered my ankle and broke my fibula in half from a bad motorcycle accident. Thank God there are pros who we can count on.
