I don't think in any LGBTQIA+ I I ever watched acknowledge sexuality forward like this. As someone who hasn't seen the show it comes off really weird to have Norma's mother concerned about some kind of supernatural issue and then she comes out then. I hope it makes sense in context because her reaction to it is really sweet.
I'm guessing the supernatural issues are somehow drawn to inner turmoil, like how Barney was experiencing a twisted reality of the family dinner with his grandma, who was saying hurtful things that was sticking with him long after.
She’s not talking about “issues” when Norma comes out, she’s talking about how she’s more than willing to learn all about Norma’s new interest to stop driving her away. If I had to guess, I would say her mom’s enthusiasm to re-connect and learn about her daughter gave Norma the confidence she needed to tell her mom something so personal
If only my mom was so excepting like Norma’s. Sadly she is a homophobe so she gets really upset and frustrated when I mention being gay or bi to her. I don’t know what the problem with it is because I have a lot of homosexual friends she just doesn’t know it yet. Love Mrs Melonie
Oftentimes, good LGBT representation in media is only rewarded when their identity isn't verbalized at all, but it feels like Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts was the catalyst of characters being able to say "I'm gay" or however they identity. Became oh my God I wanted to shriek with joy when Benson came out so casually to Kipo and then fell in love at first sight with her and Dave as his wingmen.
Some people may not like it for some reason but I love the way this was handled. It feels so natural and I almost literally started tearing up when I saw this scene. I came out to my mom and she was cool with it but I wish she reacted more like how Normas mom did.

I kinda thought the same too. I thought the mom would respond, "Norma, I love and accept you completely, but is now the best time? A bunch of dolls possessed by your former hyperfixation are trying to possess me!"
