As much as I love LGBT rep and cannon relationships, scenes like this are just as important. The characters talked about their feelings in a healthy way and were honest and open. Badyah, while not returning Norma's feelings, was assuring and kind and didn't put her down for feeling the way she did. And Norma, while still heart broken, respected her feelings and the fact she's not really into girls. And the two go on to have a strong friendship. And it's good.
It's awesome that it was handled in both mature and heartfelt way, because I know a lot of people worry about this exact situation of "what if they don't like me because they're straight?" And other people worry "what if they like me and don't know I'm straight?" I've never seen this before in animation unless someone just kisses their crush out of the blue and it's suddenly super uncomfortable, so this was just a really nice experience even though Norma was rejected.
Exept that badyah wanted to things to be normal straight away while norma needed some time to process her first heartbreak/rejection, we can fault badyah for that
Exactly. It's nice that this show was able to exemplify that not every gay crush may be reciprocated. Occasionally, it would feel a little too convenient that the love interest just so happened to be gay as well, personally. To be clear, it’s not that much of an issue, but a clash in sexualities definitely adds some realism.
As someone who just went through something really similar to this with telling my best friend I had a crush on him, and getting rejected but still being friends. This scene kinda hurts to watch. I feel really bad for her.
I’m sad for Norma but I’m kinda glad this happened. As much as I love lgbtq rep in shows, not all characters have to be lgbtq+ and date each other. There needs to be rejection. And it was so relatable to me. Especially how Norma reacted. I’m glad there was a bit of realism added instead of it feeling like the Disney movie cliche “you like me?? I like you too! Let’s date each other!” It teaches kids that their crush isn’t always gonna like them back. These kind of scenes (especially in cartoons) are very rare and it’s so pleasing to see.
Norma is me when I confessed to my best friend when I was grade 11, she's straight also and I knew I was gonna get rejected because she had a big crush on a guy. Even though I knew she was gonna reject me, it still hurts and I thought she needed to hear about my feelings or it's just gonna mess with my head. We're still close best friends now, but it feels awkward whenever that day is mentioned. Still hoping to find a new love someday, now that I know I'm pansexual.

I haven't read any of the graphic novels, so maybe I'm way off here... but when Badyah goes "does it count if I'm not thinking about it?" it's possible she's actually aromantic and/or asexual, in which those feelings don't occur to her (at least not often.) @@laobok Allo refers to alloromantic/allosexual, which is simply anyone who feels attraction regularly (the opposite of being ace/aro.) However, showing these types of scenes is also important to show that such situations can also happen. This is incredible and important. I know what it’s like admitting my feelings to someone who I know is straight and getting unsurprisingly rejected as a result. Whether it’s same sex or not, rejections because of a difference in desires of a partner that are healthy is very good to show. That guy I asked out and I are good friends to this day and plan on taking hiking trips together once his knee get better. Things will get better always. If not, find a way around it.
This is exactly almost one for one happened to me. I asked out this boy when I thought I saw signs. He told me he was straight but we’re still cool as friends, I tried to avoid him almost exactly like Nora(we aren’t like in a friend group but we see each other around a lot). After watching this episode I’m not going to let being heartbroken effect me as hard as it did. Ive had my eyes on him for a very long time it hurts but I’m still young just like Nora’s Mom says two episodes later.
Other than having this is good to show a healthy renection. I think having this in the show is good for kids to learn that all confessions mostly dont end in a happy ending.
modeling this kind of healthy discourse is important. I remember my 1st crush cut contact with me when they found out. There wasn't this idea you could just be honest and stay friends. back then (not that long ago) someone coming out as gay was a threat met with hostility & isolation, as if it were a disease that could be caught. That kids get the message it's okay to interact with queer people, poliety reject advances, and stay friends is so important. Queer people are not monsters that will attack you.
as much as lgbtq+ characters are important, so are these scenes. Love dosen’t always have an happy ending. I also enjoyed the fact that they didn’t make anyone the villan here and i hope that Norma in later season will finally find her true love :)
I think this is a really, REALLY important scene. While a straight guy, I like when LGBTQ+ rep is done right, but usually I get the feeling that it's not made in an organic way. As if you come out as LGBT, obviously the person you like will also be and you two will be a couple right? But as it happens to straight people (most of the time actually), not everyone is going to correspond to your feelings

but i'm still glad it happened, because it feels like every lgbt character's love life manages to be easy, where their crush is also lgbt and likes them too, and it's sweet that they can be happy most of the time but irl it's not so easy, it's nice to see something like this bc it literally never happens, and this show wrote it so well
But palline was realved to be evil she can't date or marry normorna when there odler if she is evil
@@michalelkin-bronner13 what
@@twist_ending7545 paline is evil though
I know people are disappointed that they're not together ,but honestly...
I believe this is better option. Recently, there are more and more lgbt people representations in cartoons, which is very important. However, showing these types of scenes is also important to show that such situations can also happen.
And also this scene shows just how good they are to themselves, that they don't want to lie to themselves.
Badyah wants to be honest with Norma, even if it might hurt and Norma want to respect her crush feelings
The fact shes muslim and we muslims are not aloud to such things
Dead end is the worst and i wish it NEVER existed
@@user-th5ze4ph1v So you're judging a whole series just because it has a healthy LGBTQ representation? I understand not supporting it because of your religion, but this really isn't a bad show.
@@user-th5ze4ph1v how she isn’t even lgbtqia(+) cause she has a bisexual friend oh no the tragedy
I've only started watching "Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts", but this scene reminds me so much of the scene from Kipo where she tells Benson that she likes him but he says that he's gay, and they handle it in a great way and they're still friends.
OH GOD I KINDA SHIPPED THEM BEFORE SEASON 2- this scene hurts to watch
ive shipped them since the musical ep
@@MarinetteDupainCheng-mj1uk since the trust me episode for me
"Badyah, I'm sorry you're straight"
No matter who it is not getting the reciprocal feelings still hurts.
Other than having this is good to show a healthy renection. I think having this in the show is good for kids to learn that all confessions mostly dont end in a happy ending.
mark my words, season 3 will have badyah be aroace in canon.
modeling this kind of healthy discourse is important.
Forget Pugsly’s death, this is the saddest part of the series.
These scenes are important just as much as any other rep, making LGBTQ people feel seen in our pain is just as important as being seen in our joy
It's giving, Kipo vibes!
as much as lgbtq+ characters are important, so are these scenes. Love dosen’t always have an happy ending. I also enjoyed the fact that they didn’t make anyone the villan here and i hope that Norma in later season will finally find her true love :)
We all know have is that feel .....
Pretty much the only showing i seen so far that have a rejected lesbian ship and actually have the character acknowledge that they're straight
Yes I knew it! The entire time Norma is bisexual 💖💙💜
cartoon charchter “Norma” expresses her crush on fellow cartoon chachter “Badyah” who does not return those feelings because “If I dont think about in straight”
Aww baby my heart this was just pure the emotions of it Ah I can’t
This scene is so good!
That girl said she was straight, I guess that means they’ll just continue to be friends.
There is a hole where once was my heart
To the people in the comments, gay muslims exist! Just because you're Muslim doesn't mean you take everything the Quran says to the letter, and no one interpretation is correct. Your religion does not excuse intolerance.
Ace Muslim here, and yeah there's a lot of LGBTQ+ Muslims out there. I love representation of hijabi's in media, and especially how they handled it here. Rejection hurts no matter what but it might be good that it happens, because then you have the chance for a different opportunity. If not, your worth isn't determined by rejection ✨️
YES EXACTLY! 👏
this reminds me of that one scene in kipo
SOBBING IMDBSDH AAHHHHH... SOBBING 😭😭😭

NO!!!!!!! I'm okay that Badyah's hetero, but she and Norma would have been so cute together!
I’m pretty sure it hinted that Badyah isn’t sure if she’s straight or not
@@HackiePuffs true, but as of now she does identify as straight. Whether thst changes or not is entirely up to her. (That is to say, up to how the writers write her arc)

As someone who is muslim, this scene really hit like a brick and probably for so many others. I love how they did this to show that muslims can't partake in such things, but the fact that Norma is respectful about it, but seeing her sad is one of another thing, I too, have experienced something like this. Excellent job for Netflix by showing different perspectives on people. 😭

I really hope Badya doesn't fall for Norma later in the series. Because that would mess with Norma's arc with season 2, accepting rejection. I'm okay with her getting together with any other girl or boy, just not Badya.
Or Zagan. She's 1600 years old. That would be weird.

I love this scene. It shows it doesn’t always have to be an LGBT person.🎉
That’s true!
exept there aint no way in hell badyah’s straight heres to quote the creator of the show on an interview and his twitter
“I dont wanna talk about badyah without giving stuff away”
“her feelings for norma are on the way”
“when I created the show I wanted there to multiple coming out scenes”
“the storyline is based off what I went threw when coming out, my version has a happy ending and this one does too”
Now what I have deciphered from this is badyahs parents probably werent too happy at the start because their muslim and some muslims consider it haram (not all)
