You've encouraged me to resume the game which I rage quit last year afetr being unable to beat the dual bosses (fat fire guy and ice woman). The most important thing in this game is mastering the parry ability which I completely suck at doing though.
@@TBT707 It's like "Dark Souls": you need to "get gud" in order to master the battle system and then it becomes addictive. I finished the game two years ago and now, after beating Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring, I tried Code Vein again and enemies can't hit me LOL
One thing you didn't say is the Ivy type you can move it around when you hold the charge. So you can hold "X" on PS4 then move the black cloud under an enemy from long range or around a corner. It's good for getting Ichor up without needing to risk getting in range of anything. I can also get off two or three charged attacks on the same guy before they reach me if the setup is right. Makes it really good for just after resting to quickly build up Ichor before a boss with taking no damage. All be it slower then most might like to play.
It's also great for drawing in just a few or 1 enemy rather than a hoard or if you're doing a "gift grind" and you want to make sure you don't run out of ichor. But it really, really doesn't work well for parries or combo drains. Pity since it's far and away the veil with the most style points.
@@sr71silver It's fitting for caster's, some of the AOE spells can just about kill everything in one go but there is always a few that have around 20% health. The Ivy's damage is right around that so if you pull on the biggest HP guys with it you can then AOE everything in one go.
I just got this game and this was a great help. Thanks so much for the great explanation on how this games works. You got a sub from me for how this video helped me.
This was very informative. Thank you. The blood veils were probably the biggest thing that had me scratching my head but you explained it very well. Thanks again.
I know I’m late to the party but it seems like every game I have really enjoyed the past couple years, you have covered. Quickly becoming my favorite youtuber lol Keep up the good work
Just something quite important. The game likes to throw the word defense all over. The defense stats on your blood code page is the same defense stats shown when you check veils. It is affected by code and veil and the higher it is the less damage you get when being hit. The defense stats on weapon page is the damage you get while blocking. It is not shown anywhere else but only on weapon page. Basically code vein weapon is like weapon is like weapon att + shield (kinda like 2h block weapons from dark souls) whereas veil is armor but also drain attack dmg. Many of the in game buffs that affect weapon dmg don't affect drain attack and vice versa.
felt like it is important note that the depths map arent only for materials but they also contain certain vestige parts. also, an npc will have you do their questlines where he gives u maps to the the depths and as you clear them he will gain stock in his store which will facilitate the "exchange" feature of followers to get special materials or their weapons for some. so yea, there is much more incentive to do the depths dungeons than what appears at first glance

You just earned yourself a sub brother got code vain and this vid helped me set up my character in a way that is truly mine ,,,rare in a game cheers man
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like leveling HURTS you more than it HELPS you? The only thing that leveling really provides you is significantly increased health. The difference in health between level 10 (~1000) and level 100 (~3000) is pretty significant. But healing in this game is so weak and slow (compared to most Soulsborne-esque titles) that you really don't want to be taking any damage anyway. You also get extremely small amounts of stamina and attack power, but I assure you it's minor. Lastly, your companions do seem to scale with your own level, so artificially deflating your character's level will make your companions less potent, but this is frankly a good thing as you'll frequently find them so overtuned as to be clearing waves of enemies or chunking bosses without you. The real boosts you get to character performance come from upgrading your weapons and blood veils to +3, +6, +9 and eventually +10 as well as learning and mastering the later-game Blood Codes. A level 10 character with +10 weapon/blood veil using a late-game Code is only doing about 10-15% less damage than a level 100 character with a +10 weapon/blood veil using a late-game Code. Now, the experience you gain towards mastering various gifts is entirely related to your level comparable to the level of your enemies. These numbers are hidden from you, but the effect is quite evident. At level 10, in the Zero District depths map, I can fully master a 36,000 haze gift in A SINGLE RUN. On my first character, who is currently level 100+ (unfortunately), it could take 2+ hours worth of runs to master an advanced gift. It's extremely punishing. It's VERY easy to over-level this game. So, in short, try to stay as low level as possible at all times? Your thoughts are appreciated.
Loved the guide, thanks so much Cowboy! Picked this up over lunch today, can't wait to get home and start enjoying it! Looking forward to watching your Let's Play/Walkthrough when I'm finished with the game! Keep up the great work as always!
Love your video. Helping others is always nice. ^_^ One note though, there are also certain gifts that are blood code specific, meaning that you can't inherit them and can only be used as part of that blood code. For example, Queenslayer's "Final Journey" is only useable in that blood code (and for good reason) as well as Atlas' "Firm Stand" only being usable in Atlas.
Ty for the help. I have to point out though that a ‘flat % damage increase’ isn’t a thing. Flat damage is the opposite of % based; it doesn’t scale. Such as 50 damage always no matter the weapon strength, so these buffs are scaling it seems, definitely the better option to flat as flat damage is overpowered on fast weak weapons and garbage on slow strong ones.
When I said flat percentage I meant the percentage is unchanged across weapons, weapon scaling has no impact on it. A 100 damage weapon gets 25 more, a 400 damage weapon gets 100 more.
as far as the dark and light tree goes your right with what spells you see in each but should point out that for Dark gifts the dmg will be determined by the will stat while Mind determines the Light gift trees
