Voltage Drop in a Series Circuit

Voltage drop is when electric potential energy is turned in to something else; like radiant energy from a light bulb. The Process is similar to someone's gravitational potential energy being turned into kinetic energy as they go down a hill. This video gives students a good visual of how voltage drop works in a series circuit. Voltage is compared to a hill, electric potential energy is compared to gravitational potential energy, and radiant energy is compared to kinetic energy. In this comparison, the battery is like a lift. The lightbulbs are like drops. The electric current is like Sargent Drop on a snow board.
