The majority of factories in Europe are clean like this. They take great pride in their work, and it shows. Something that the people of the U.S. have seem to have forgotten about. It's actually quite sad.
With regards to the M96 engine, another issue that can cause cracks in the head is based in the coolant water pump. As the water pump ages, pieces of the internal plastic impeller can break off and these plastic bits will circulate within the cooling system. If these plastic pieces become lodged in the many small coolant passages within the head they could partially to fully obstruct the flow of coolant at that location. The combination of debris and loss of coolant flow can create localized hot spots in the head but can yield the same result, cracks in the head.
Fascinating glimpse intothe inner workings of the Prsche factory but it would have been so much more interesting if we had been given just a little narration to explain what the men were doing and what processes were happening at each stage.
And what so dirty should be there? It is only assembly factory. Every dirty part is built in different building or different supplier. They do only the assembling. Clean job. So many suppliers are involved in this final part of assembling (turbo, cables, sparcles, metal pieces...) and most of them do really dirty jobs. And all of them are annoyed with stupid rules of IATF. And all applause you made is this final factory.
I used to work for GMAD (General Motors Assembly Division) in 1978. I read that a bunch of Scientists found that factory workers listening to music performed better, could work longer hours and were generally much happier than factory workers that had no music. Of course they could not pick their type of music, but they listened because that's what was playing. I find it difficult to believe that none of these factories pipe music through the PA system. It's probably quiet because there are cameras and people watching, I'd guess after everybody is gone the music is turned back on.
That engine is a thing of beauty. A very quiet and clean production line, and looked like an all male assembly team. I worked once in a machining factory, making same widget day after day, drove me mad.
nebojsa1976 I noticed that too. Now go watch the Mercedes factory assembly video after this, it feels downright depressing and sad compared to this environment 😂
I had one of those engines on an engine stand tip over and fall on me one time. Those things are surprisingly heavy considering it's an all aluminum sub 4-liter 6 cylinder.
hi, you can see in the video, this engine has no ims like M96..., the crankshaft has the timing chain for both cylinder heads on the same side(1:16min). so no ims is needed.
Happy New Year and Trillions like and best comment for you because you are best on Earth and follower respect you,we need videos in Real 120fps FullHD ,4K,8K and Sound in FullHD 3D.
At :48 sec they install rings on to the piston with the connecting rod attached to the piston already. At 1:15 they install timing chains on to the crankshaft, but the connecting rods are already installed to the crank without the pistons.
Unbelievably so simple as a worker once you have gone through the learning curve in these ultra modern plants, I feel a brainless headache coming on watching this, if that’s possible.
Yep, noticed this as well, but on the left side as well as it comes passing by. One turbo for each set of 3 cylinders in the boxer engine I guess. How about those Porsche engineers bolting that 2018 engine (yes, yes, with the turbo's please) onto my 1999 C4 911 convertible....
nice video, but not does not show the assembly in order and glosses over the production line. how is the asec halves assembled? how are the opposing pistons secured to the connecting rods? again nice video but missing technical portions.
My guess is that it makes for a faster, cleaner work environment and just before they test them, they most likely pressure feed the lubricants into all the passages and so it isn't really necessary. Mass production dictates its own rulles.
sir please can you get a video on tesla: inside the factory full documentary, last time in a car documentary I comment that" can I get a video on MG Gloster inside the factory full documentary" but your channel didn`t get it. I have seen other videos of cars documentary (like RIMAC C-TWO inside the factory full documentary, Lamborgini huracan inside the factory full documentary) and yes it had helped me to know that how the people work in the factory with help of machinary and the whole documentary. so, sir if you can`t get a video on mg Gloster. so, please sir it's my humble request that pleases can you get a video on tesla: inside the factory full documentary
It’s more efficient to automate a process that takes more time if done manually or is not cumbersome (but that depends on the philosophy. Take for instance the spark plugs. It’s better if a human can tighten it as it is more difficult to automate that. They made it easier for the artisan since the tool has a plastic guide. Saves 2-4 seconds per spark plug. Save 10 seconds for a 6 cylinder. Save a minute every six engines (you get the idea) The piston guide is both, as the actual installation requires finesse from a human, but a human placing the piston in the guide takes more time. Sorry if I’m geeking out. Some manufacturers want it automated, some prefer a 1-man builder per engine, and some prefer an assembly line.
I agree. But I couldn't do anything repetitive and could never hold a 9-5 job. It's not a job for people with ADHD. Good money and working for Porsche helps I'm sure.
not knowing emission standards in europe, I'm assuming these engines are destined for vehicles used in the USA, I see emission crap all over them, makes for a very busy and complicated engine.
I'm amazed by how quiet it is there. Everyone is very focused and dedicated to their own tasks. What an impressive operation.
They were probably asked to keep chatter to a minimum because of the filming crew.
Fascinating. Semi-automation with expert technicians making one of the finest engines ever designed.
I would love to work in a factory this clean and organized.

Wow....talk about a totally sanitary work environment. That production line is first class!!
German precision in the work..... Legendary engine of a legendary Car Manufacturer
I really enjoyed the absense of commentary and music. Thankyou for this wonderful video.
I visited several plants in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen when I picked up my 991.2 Turbo S you get to see a lot but at a distance. This was a better view.
I’ll showed this video to my car. Big smiles.
Double row timing chains I see, didn't think manufacturers still did this on modern engines, looks like it's going to be a mechanically reliable unit
Looks very professional
porsche why stuck on boxer 6. why they don't make boxer 8.??

Raw german steelmechanics and motors. Love it.
This factory looks nice bright and clean. By the looks of the metal it looks high quality. You don’t see that at Chevy
And what so dirty should be there? It is only assembly factory. Every dirty part is built in different building or different supplier. They do only the assembling. Clean job.

Those turbos are huge !!!
I wouldn't mind working at one of these engine building plants. I feel like it would be relaxing.
I am sure it is not relaxing
That engine is a thing of beauty. A very quiet and clean production line, and looked like an all male assembly team. I worked once in a machining factory, making same widget day after day, drove me mad.
They are doing great job there...
Love it. Reminds me when I built car models. Whole lot of engineering.

I'm more impressed with the assembly equipment.
Very clean...not a drop of oil when inserting the pistons and camshafts. Strange

Because they ventually blow up when least expected

It's not how it's made it's how it's assembled. All the fun is in actually how it's made. Casting milling stamping and so on.
