The eighth wonder of the world. The most wonderful car the world has ever seen. And the example in this video is a stunning example of the one and only Goddess.

An Aussie assembled 1962 ID19, then a 64 ID19, a 68 DS21 Hydraulic, a 1970 D Super, a couple of GSs and then THE SUPREME DS - A 1972 DS21 EFI Pallas 5 speed with leather followed later by a 1974 DS23 EFI Pallas 5 speed with Jersey... Well done Oldenzaal, Bas.

This is early 1960s design. This design is about 25 to 30 years ahead of other vehicle designs. Other vehicle designers took long time to mount tail end lamps at roof level- eye level and get this shape in head lights .This is really a beautiful design. ❤
I got to 53 years ago for 3 years. I still miss it terribly but I am too poor to maintain one now so I drive a reliable old Corolla that rides like a cement mixer, but gives no problems.

I owned one just like this in the late 90's. A left-hand drive DS23 Pallas which I sourced in Paris. Fantastic car. Very reliable. The driver of a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow once called across to me at traffic lights in London "Great car! More reliable than this (Shadow)" !

Out of curiosity, what was the perception of Citroens in Australia? I had heard from relatives who lived in Australia that they were derided for not being Holden or Ford
@@alfredsedgewick2184 Both Citroens and Peugeots were well regarded in Australia from the 1930s Traction, thru ID, DS, GS, to a lesser extent CX, BX and Xantia... Especially in the country. Peugeot 204, 404, 504 were even more highly regarded. Much more comfortable and faster and safer than home bred Holden's and Fords. The Citroen ID19 and 404 504 were assembled in Melbourne in the 1960s because of import tariffs to protect the local industries. By 1978 the import duty and sales tax amounted to 92.85%. You could have a car delivered overseas and if you had it continuously in your use and possession there was a sliding scale starting after 6 months to 100% duty and tax free after 15 months. In 1978 6,000 Aussies brought back Benz's, BMWs, Volvo's, Ferraris, Peugeots, Citr, Jags, Rovers and Morgan's. I bought a new RR Silver Shadow II at 24 with a loan and a colleague bought a CX Prestige. I also had a new Citroen 2CV6 for running around for work. After a year in the UK, I had 5 months youth hostelling around Europe swapping monthly between the Shadow and Prestige. My profit allowed me to lease the Prestige as my car once home plus I had a one third deposit on a house . I brought the 2CV6 back as second hand parts and two friends reassembled it for me. The first car to Circumnavigate around Australia was a little 1923 Citroen 5CV in 1925. DS and Peugeots did well in Rallies and Reliability Trials in Australia. Tractions, DSs and BXs did well in the Bathurst 500 mile endurance races where handling and brakes meant they were class leaders. Race Driver Peter McLeod bought in 48 used SMs from the US and restored plus upgraded them. He converted 18 to RHD. We have about 25 RHD SMs. Plus the only RHD GS Birotor in the world built by talented car club member Greg Fienberg, who went thru the parts catalogue to build one by hand. I have owned 17 Citroens over 52 years.
I was brought up with those, in fact I pretty much learnt to drive on the DSD. My folks had 4 of them ( one after the other - of course ). I loved those cars, wish I could afford one today !
Magnifique!voiture inégalée et inégalable.Il faut croire que Citroën l'a produite trop tôt.Et si sa production reprenait avec le même design mais de nouvelles optons et une meilleure motorisation?
Passed my driving test in a light 15 in 1964 at 19 years old then bought a 1954 DS19 RHD in poor condition whilst at college and spent many interesting hours getting it into a roadworthy condition. Loved it to bits but the body rot got too much for me to cope with in the end. I would happily buy either car today for the pleasure of driving them but haven't a garage to keep them in
Within the start of the second half of the 20th century this car is in my top 5 of the greatest designs. The top of the list is the Jaguar E Type, the XK’s from around 1950 ish and the Fiat 500 This Citroen had wonderful sleek lines etc but how did they decide on the Citroen Dyane. Design as different as chalk and cheese 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴❤️❤️👍 👍 😀
I would have thought that storing the spare tire in front of the radiator would block the flow of air and result in over heating issues. However the engineers some how came up with a solution.
The cooling air comes in from under the nose and passes to the radiator through a fabric shroud, which can be opened in winter to reduce the ram air effect and keep the engine from being overly cold.
I can’t imagine what would be wrong for Citroen to basically re-issue this car. modernize it technologically, changing none of it’s original aesthetic, they would sell millions.
I never tire of looking at this beautiful car. An ultimate classic in timeless design.
