      My father loved Citroens. After owning DS Types for 20 Years, he bought an Citroen CX Prestige in 1986. All Citroens he had in the past, turned out to be Nightmares! While having big driving fun, they had to visit the workshop at least once or twice a month. His new CX Prestige had to visit the shop WEEKLY. All his travells with this car ended on the back of a wrecker, who had to bring this CX to the shop to get repaired. Over a range of five years, he spend far over 100.000 $ to get this Nightmare of a Car fixed. This finally endet when the engine exploded. It droped a Rod while highspeed driving, engine decomposed and left an encreadable mass on the Highway.

    It was such a fantastic comfortable car to drive, you didnt want to get out of it.
    Maintenance however was not that fantastic - the handbrakes (working on front wheels) had to be manually adjusted every 5000km (3200 miles) to work.
    The result was that you had handbrakes for some 4000km, then no handbrakes for 6000km until you reached the oil service interval at 10000km 😊
    The CX handbrake system (all CX models) was a heritage from the renowned 2CV 👀

    Nice review. One of our company cars in the early 80s was a CX2400 Safari. Easily carried all our camera crew, gear and luggage. As a camera platform it was amazingly stable. It was also surprisingly fast. Would easily cruise at 80 to 90 mph with a full load. Once you got used to the idiosyncrasies in the switches and the semi-auto 3 speed it was very easy to drive. I found that in heavy town traffic (London, UK) you could leave it in 2nd! I would love to have owned one.

    The gauge on the right isn't the oil pressure gauge. It's the oil level gauge, that works only for 10 second, after putting the key righe before the ignition.

      Sorry, but that's incorrect. I have owned a GS, a GSA and a BX and with the exception of the BX, which I'm not sure about, the others work the same way. The gauge is indeed a LEVEL gauge for the first 10s, but as the engines starts turning, it indicates pressure. The man is correct...

    • @blitzroehre1807
      @blitzroehre1807 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on which version of the CX. On series 1 with the digital speedo it was indeed only a level gauge which indicated with the ignition on before engine startup. On this series 2 it is a combo level and pressure gauge. Look at the 2 marks on the dial halfway up. Thats min and max oil level.

    • @kevindiener6391
      @kevindiener6391 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sandroleandro2493 Sorry mate, but my CXII doesn't work like that, is only a oil level gauge, even on the original owners manual, it's says that.

    Got one of those. The coolest feature in my opinion is the fact it can take speed bumps and rough terrain extremely well.
    A 30km/h speed bump you can take at 80 or 90 or 200, it doesn't matter.
    But the tailgating bmw or audi in your rear view mirror can't handle that at all.
    Resuling in your tailgating friend hitting his head against his roof, his mcdonalds meal launching around his interior and all sorts of other entertaining and often dangerous situations.
