    I’m sorry. But I cannot get on board with converting scouts into a blazer by using Chevy engines. Son of an IH dealer here. It’s the sound of a hot rodded IH V8 that I remember most. Yes I know parts are hard to get for the IH motors now. But I loved mine and had a blast with it in the 1970s. It just needed better gearing and some minor tweaks to have adequate power in the 304. I didn’t need to lift it on 33s either. I ran 9r 15 wranglers. Gas shocks and short dual exhaust. Ripped the emissions off. Rejetted the Stock two barrel Holley. It would top out at 115 mph. We clocked that with a friends 460 pickup. Handled fine with advanced adapters shackles and factory swaybar. Got 18mpg all day long. To me an engine is the soul of a vehicle. These new rods are all nice rigs. But they are hotrods. I don’t see them as Scouts. I don’t see what VW is doing as a Scout either. I get burnt when I read comments about how bad IH engines were? Well I lived that decade. They were better on torque and in the mud than anything else in their class stock. They won Baja with the 345. Yea I know that’s 40 years ago.Chevy engines are big power cheap. Etc etc. to each their own. And I’ll congratulate the nice trucks here. But it’s not for me.

    Anything Scout rocks! They are the experts in IH Scouts and have a true passion for keeping Scouts on the roads and trails. I recently ordered a power steering hose for my '79 Scout II. The hose is hard to find but Anything Scout had it in stock and it was reasonably priced. Thank you for these videos and all you do for the IH community!

    What are the specifics on the rims. Are they a Pro Comp 69 Series Vintage Wheel, 15x10 with 5 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern?

    Yet another amazing truck! I'm hearing that the original 345 V8 is a very reliable engine if properly maintained. Just wondering why not recondition them and add an EFI system rather than full engine swap? Cheers guys!

    • @rts3613
      @rts3613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I own a Scout ll with the 345ci. I can say from my perspective that it's a great engine, but it has drawbacks. It's heavy 750-800 pounds, it makes less than 190 hp (although its torquey) and there aren't many options to add performance. Nor, are there many options for an overdrive transmission, so keeping up at modern highway speeds is a problem. Tall tires, tall gearing and only three speeds, sucks. Parts and people that know how to work on IHC engines are getting harder to find. Performance, weight, efficiency, drivability and maintainability all go to the GM LS. LS engines with trans can easily be found for a couple grand, where adding EFI to a 345 will cost at least half that. By the time you add efi and change the axle gearing you could almost do an LS swap.

      yep LS gen 4 V8 vs IH C v8...former has more performance parts available is lighter weight in cast aluminum from factory et al..

    I have a 1965 Scout that has custom on doors, and overdrive with a three speed. I have never seen one like this. I wonder how many were made.?

    In the video you say 2 1/2 lift, 4” shackles and 1” body lift. So the body lift just for extra tire clearance? Can it be left out and still have enough drivetrain clearance for the 4.8 6l80 conversion

    Just picked up a 74 Scout ii from a close friend. The tub is pretty rusted, but im interested in planning for a drivers conversion. Do you recommend customers buy new tubs before moving on to the engine and tranny swap?

    So, I'd like to ask, how does the 2.5" RC lift and 4" shackles ride compared to a spring-over?
    I've not had good success with the RC lifts as far as ride-comfort.

    Great truck! Without knowing what kind of emergency brake issues y’all are dealing with, have you looked into the E-Stopp emergency brake kit? I’ve never personally used one, but I’m curious if that would solve your problem(s).

    • @anythingscout

      For the ideal setup, yes. But its not a requirement and really just depends on the customer. Most people are not comfortable with the handling of stock geometry, so we typically do some type of caster correction.
