I get excited about receiving your products, not the items it comes in. I appreciate your packaging because I don’t have to throw a bunch of things away. As pretty as packaging can be, it’s also not necessary or required. People who aren’t small biz owners don’t realize how much money it takes to make, package and ship a product without considering how it ultimately affects your income. So just do you and what you always feels best for you without comparison or negative criticism.

Oh it's pretty common in the community, where people literally complain about freebies or lack thereof. Freebies are nice but most small businesses don't have the resources to give a lot for free.
Good for you for speaking out about the packaging waste in such a respectful and informative way. As a shop owner myself, I completely relate and it’s so hard to explain this to people when customers are so used to the experience from large brands!
I really like minimal packaging when I order things and really appreciate it when small businesses reuse mailers or packaging. At the start of the pandemic, I saved and reused a lot of packaging from things I ordered so I could mail things to my own friends :) So I've the idea of reusing/reducing on packaging so that money and resource could be spent in other parts of your biz!
Honestly as a minimalist, someone who actively tries to reduce my consumption waste, and someone who gets easily overwhelmed by visual messiness I wholeheartedly appreciate minimal packaging with no extra “fluff”.
I honestly wouldnt have even considered "bag with tape and thank you card" minimal packaging ^^" its lovely, personal, and also very amazing to not have to throw stuff out. a big yay for reducing waste 😊💪

I get the idea of "unboxing" but I'm buying from fellows artists because of their art/products... not all the extras that I never know what to do with or feel guilty getting rid of. Yes, I get the "magic" of opening a package and seeing how cute it is on the inside but to be honest - who even remembers what they got in their packaging the next day? All that truly matters is the item I ordered which YOU created with time and love.
I honestly prefer the minimalist packaging :))) those cost get stuck into the price of the shipping etc. and it's like great paid 6 bucks extra for tissue paper and packing stickers that will go in the bin 😷

I totally agree on the packaging. I’ve been running my Etsy shop for some years and I started using less and less. Went from a sticker to a stamp on the box and also the thank you card and baggie with washi tape. After all it is the art inside that counts, isn’t it? ❤
That “unboxing experience” comment is so interesting… I order from a shop because I want the product I ordered, not because it’s going to come with a bunch of stuff that I don’t know what to do with. I think the “bar” has been raised with artist’s packaging because of all the art youtubers who show their packaging, but overall it’s so unnecessary!
The packaging comment was such a bad take! Like, why wouldn’t I be hyped, stoked, excited as hell to get merch from a creator I love?! So weird. Like special boxes, tape and that paper fuzz are all extras, it doesn’t need to be there at all lol one second of serotonin then you’re stuck dealing with it 🤣👏 hope it didn’t get you too down. dude my idea of an amazeballs order is just getting it in one piece... If people spent more time enjoying what they actually got and less on complaining about the packaging... jeebuz... of all the things to complain about! dude appreciate you ACTUALLY got it with the way deliveries have been... I would much rather NOT have a ton of cutesie BS to dig through and dispose of... just give me what I ordered in one piece and I am pleased... 99 problems and people wanna complain about their idea of boring packaging.. want all the extra crap, then pay an upcharge to the creator of said items...
my least favourite thing is when stuff comes in those weird shitty plastic but feel like cloth bags. like i'd rather just have a regular plastic baggy i feel less bad about throwing it away lol. and honestly i hate like...low quality freebie stickers?? or when you get a package from a brand and they give you stickers of their logo like...i don't need this? it's a little different if it's a small creator because usually they have really CUTE logos haha.
yeah packaging with freebies can be nice, but as a small business i cant include freebies, i cant afford to. i think etsy really didnt help with this trend of including free stuff on top of what you bought. dont want to lose sale obvs, but its not feasible to just add free stuff. we dont expect bigger business's go include free stuff so shouldnt expect smaller business too either
