      How long did it take you to earn enough to provide for your living expenses? I'm currently taking crash courses for digital marketing and planning to learn digital art while i'm applying for interships / jobs. I'll also be using social media to hopefully earn as well w/ my passions. I'd like to focus on just one passion, but i'm not sure which is likely to bring me income faster because of my current problems.

    • @AshleighKing
      @AshleighKing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@gurlypops1806 it took me 6 months. But I got lucky with my situation with social media for it to happen that fast. My advice would be to do both if you can! My other majors in college have only helped me overall with my art career. Especially if you’re relying on making money right away, I would make that a priority until your art can gradually provide enough money.

      @@gurlypops1806 she is being super nice...but if I was your advisor, I would say get good at marketing because it's easier to get an income fast from it, then take your time with art because it's harder to break into the industry, once you get really good at digital art, companies will hire you or freelance. But it's saturated and one has to be really good.

    I graduated degree in architecture few months back but suddenly i dont want to do it anymore (as a job). Few months of jobless life made me realize that the part of architecture that i enjoyed in the past was always the artistic and conceptual phase. I still dont know what i am going to do tbh. I want to do art but it is so hard get inspired😭 i want to fast forward this part of my life to the part where i already figured out what i actually want to do

      I think architecture schools can be a terrible way to kill some artists inspiration because you’re learning to draw in a more technical and industrial way, so if you’ve been to architecture I can understand what you feel. I graduated 6 years ago and never worked in this field but today I’m still struggling with thoses « rules of drawing » I learned through architecture. My advice would be - at this time, trying to be a full time artist for only 6 months - try to forget everything you thought you knew about art and explore like you’ve never draw in your life. Look at your art journey as if you were a 10 yo. It heals slowly, i can tell. Hope you’ll find your creativity again 😘

      Life is hard isn't it? Here are the things that helped me as an artist. 1) My wife is also an artist and she is very encouraging. We even paint commission together 2) I'm a Math teacher but found a job as an art teacher in the Philippines. I taught art to grades 1 through 5 for 3 years. Being surrounded by free art materials and having to teach it to kids, I learned how to paint with acrylics, tempera, watercolor, etc. Before this job I mostly drew and created small clay sculptures. 3) Do it for fun. I also wish I could do art full-time and get paid to create it. Most of the time I don't get paid but I still do it because it is fun. It wasn't fun for maybe 2 or 4 years but eventually I became skillful enough that I know 90% of the time I will get good results. 4) Finally, make sure you exercise because I have so many body pains from seating for hours at a time and I could have avoided much suffering if I had an exercise routine. Good luck and remember that art is a treasure, not always a business.

    I started painting after nearly 25/28 years. I started to paint to keep my sanity because I lost my parents within 23 days of each other's death. It was traumatic and I needed help and art helped me rediscover myself and manage my emotions. Just make a start dont think is all I have to say. People will always have something to say, art is very personal and very soul searching. If you dont know what to say, pick a brush and it will soon come out.

    An art degree gives one knowledge but it doesn’t give a person raw talent.
    I was born with pencil in my hand, often thought about art school when l was young, but soon realised that talent can’t be taught, only honed.
    It’s encouraging to watch videos like yours, thank you 😊

    • @narayandesigns3291
      @narayandesigns3291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I agree that most art schools aren't worth it.But it has nothing to do with talent. Art is not a talent it's a skill. Talent might play a role in how fast you learn something but it's less than 5% of what makes you an artist. There are professional artists who had no talent, in fact most of the best artists ever learned it through sheer hard work and repetition. Anybody can learn art. People are born with different levels of passion for art but not different levels of skill. Their passion makes them work on it more, gaining more mileage than the average person at a young age. You can learn art at any age . Jonathan Hardesty started learning art at the age of 22 and now he is teaching at Schoolism because of the amount of effort he put into it. Marco Bucci(One of her favourite artists she has mentioned in this video) has a video where he talks about how he became a successful artist even though he had no talent. Marc Brunet and Samdoesarts also talk about it in the videos about 'worst art advices'. Ironically, artists who see themselves as 'talented' instead of hardworking come to a point where they hit a wall. Everything is learned through repetition. You can check out the book 'The Talent Code: Greatness isn't Born it's Grown' by Daniel Coyle. You can be a phenomenal artist even if you have zero talent. All you need is repetition. In terms of learning art, online courses like Proko, Schoolism, New Masters Academy etc and online schools like CGMA, CG Spectrum are the best to learn art. Also youtube tutorials. These are way cheaper options which no generation before us had access to :D

    Most successful artists I know have a marketing degree like you. It says it all really.

      Also the story you tell greatly impacts the way people perceive the art. Your art with your story is more enjoyable than your art in a vacuum, more or less. Obviously the art still needs to be pretty damn good.

Now I'm kind of lost in the weeds. I'm going to focus on graduating and hopefully pick up marketing skills as I go in the next few years. It feels daunting but I would love to make my art into a job and I know I have the skills - just not the marketing skills yet.

I am also self taught and didn't think my art was any good until others saw it and wanted to buy it as gifts for others. Your process is really good and if you ever decide to do a tutorial without having to explain what you are doing just like what you did today where the process of you painting start to finish is sufficient👍🏽

    Hello there...I first started out with oils and painting florals. I started out taking floral art classes at Michael's from a gal who studied from a teacher who was connected with Bob Ross. The teacher's style was wet on wet. I took week long classes and in that class I heard about the artist who taught my teacher his style of painting in oils. His name is Gary Jenkins and he had been painting for years. I took many week long classes with him. I then got interested in the Thomas Kincaid style of painting landscapes. I loved those cottages he painted with flowers everywhere. I taught myself by studying his style and his colors he chose. I also bought DVD tutorials from another artist but he painted landscapes in acrylics. That did not stop me. He had a lot to teach in his dvds and books. I just painted what he painted in oils. His name is Jerry Yarnell. I found him on the internet. There is also an artist named Dorothy Dent who paints in oils. She has plenty of books out with instructions as well as tracings of what you are going to paint which are pullouts. She also has dvds of landscape tutorial paintings which are really pretty. She loves painting barns, covered bridges, farm like homes, or woods with paths.
    I have always thought flowers looked pretty in watercolor. I bought books on watercolor, books with drawings on watercolor paper. Then I stumbled across two artist who paint botanical florals in watercolor via Patreon. I also like watercolor because the brushes are easier to clean. It took forever to clean my oil brushes. Plus there are no fumes in watercolor. Anyway, you might want to check out those artists who paint in oils and have books/tutorials with pullouts that I mentioned. I do hope this helps.

It looks simple to follow but what I see is the love, time, effort and dedication...you are amazing. Congratulations! Please continue to be an inspiration to people like me.

    I wish you always success and success. I love decorative prostrations and I love arts and drawing. For me, it is an amazing and beautiful thing. It is sad to hide our talent and not show it to people. We must continue. I am unable and I am looking for a TH-cam channel that explains what is inside me. I love these things and enjoy watching them. From the bottom of my heart, I follow you from the Middle East, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I love you so much💖💖

    me : working in an artstore in germany
    "How much you spent on art material?"
    Overall.I meet artists every day😘 and I can give you some simple advise "grab the mediumHigh priced stuff. It will pay off in the end."Especially in paints and papers. High-priced paints are most of the time just medium and pigment..a high amount of pigment. While cheap variants are mixed with multiple stuff and fewer pigments. Being a beginner I'd advise people to buy the basic colors of well-established brands than the cheap variant of a no-name company. Simply turn the product around and read what is in it. You will see the difference right away!Plus: if buying a small selection of paints you learn to mix !🥰nice video and good luck

      @@AshleighKing Absolutely! May I give you a lil TIP for a nice brand whose quality is really amazing? The German brand Schminke : especially the Norma oil colors are Awesome! They have also for students the 'akademie'quality which is already stunning!

    Hi I'm from England! Loved your Watercolour. I haven't used watercolours in years. I stayed on in school til 18, studied Graphic Design but I do love drawing. Never really did anything with it workwise. I did sell one of my drawings on ebay, although not for much but its a start.
    For many years I've been moving from temporary job to temporary job but never really settling anywhere except for my last job where I was for 3.5 years. I loved it there but then COVID messed that up and I was unemployed for a while. But I've been looking into side hustles as a way to make extra money. I do a little bit of ebay reselling and have been trying to sell some of my work on there.
    I think its great you go out to paint/draw. I actually prefer to use photos as reference. I don't know if you find this but drawing and painting can be quite therapeutic. When you're really focused on something its like meditation.
    Keep up the good work!

    I have a similar story I choice finance as my subject only because I was good in accounts I never had an idea of art as a profession. I got depression while I was graduating and after that I don't what happened I changed field I guess 7-8 times I started with Govt exam then 3D modeling then Data visualization courses then SQL course then python course then again web development courses I paid alot of money here and there(parents income). I think I was indecisive and impulsive I don't know why I was very anxious the whole time now we are left with no money, no skills I want to learn and have a career in art but I need money for stability and guidance for art I don't have tools too. I feel like a failure and have had suidical thoughts alot of times. I don't know where I am going to end up.
