I never will forget the first time I heard Eva....I had my PBS channel running one Saturday evening and I was standing in my kitchen making a sandwich...and this voice came out of the speakers of my television and I stopped the spreading of my mayonnaise and dropped the knife...the hair's on my arms and the back of my neck stood up on end...I immediately went into the living room and sat on my couch watching this beautiful women singing somewhere over the rainbow...the tears started flowing and just chills up and down my spine...I have been singing and playing the guitar since I was 11....been around music my whole life.... hearing her for the first time was a religious experience....of course I didn't know that she had already passed... didn't know anything about this beautiful angel sent from God to touch us...it's that way with all of the very special one's....it's like the Lord is saying ok you can have this one for a short time and then I'm taking her back...and we are so glad that he let us experience this wonderful talent....we are all better people because of it...💘💘💘💘

Yes you can. We are shoveled mediocrity and award it so that when you come across a real artist you think its magic. She learned, practiced and crafted her art. Everything she's doing is pretty basic beside the guitar playing. But the timing of technique and finding the story behind songs she chose to tell and telling those stories humbly came from her appreciation of the song.
      Everyone else just belts notes

Eva Cassidy is one of the most amazing musical talents I have ever heard...I would've loved to see her in concert at the Blues Club! She was so unique and real...that's what the stupid people at the recording companies try to beat out of musicians. They try to take their soul. Eva was a gorgeous soul. Rest in peace, Eva!

I never get tired of listening to her. She is a vocal pure gem song interpreter. The heart and the voice connected and poured out like magic. Touching hearts XO I didn't know of her until a neighbor said I reminded him of her (which I didn't know was probably the biggest compliment anyone would ever give me in my singing lifetime). He gave me her CD and I listened and listened and fell in love with her voice and everything about her. Love you Eva and will meet you one day in Fields of Gold. XXOO

The people loved her angelic voice, talent and heart. God bless her, may her memory live on forever in our hearts. 🙏 She sure did show our Music Industry what our people really want and need. RIP dear Eva 🙏♥️🙏

What Eva’s voice could do with lyrics to the songs she chose to sing made me stop dead in my tracks. I believe the first I found was Fields of Gold years back & I was devastated to learn that she lived so briefly. What gifts she gave to the world in her repertoire. I’ve had many of her songs on repeat through the years as listening to her is so soothing, soul searching, affirming & inspiring. Her delivery seemed so effortless yet the passion was in every phrase. She had me in the palm of her hand from the moment that songbird opened her mouth! Rest in God’s peace, Eva. And, thank you. Thank you so much for being true to yourself.

Until moments ago I had never heard of Eva. I had just finished listening to Sting sing Fields of Gold and I saw her thumbnail above it with over 16ml views so I figured she must be an up and coming beautiful young talent so I played her rendition and was blown away by how great it was. So I played it again, and then again. I started reading the comments and saw one in which the commenter said Sting himself rated Eva's version the most beautiful he had ever heard including his own. And then I read a few more comments and found out she had died years ago. Until moments ago I had never heard of her. Thank God for Eva and thank God for TH-cam and those who post here.

Some artists defy description, but we try. I never met her, but I know her. Mick describes her so well. No BS, just straight ahead heart from this woman. Look at her eyes, they speak volumes. When I first heard her sing, she reduced me to tears within 30 seconds. As a musician, you just know when you hear it, and you don't hear it that often. There's a top ten, but then occasionally, someone actually transcends that.

Eva's "day job" for a long time was working at Behnke's, a local nursery. She was very fond of the place. My late wife worked there too, though not at the same time; I think she heard some stories about Eva. We both loved her music. I feel that you can hear in Eva's performances something elemental and close to nature: "unadorned" but deeply beautiful.

In the UK Terry Wogan was given her CD and told about her story and how she had died so tragically young. He loved her voice and played her CD on his show. Many listeners phoned in asking about this girl with the beautiful voice and where could they get her CD. I was one of the listeners and had never heard of Eva before but her voice so pure and beautiful and her story blew me away and I became a huge fan of her's. I grew up in Bowie MD which is where Eva is from. She was older than my crowd by 6 or 7 years or so. Her voice like golden silk of which was also as powerful as any instrument. I fell in love with her music and quite honestly with her back in 2012 or so. What a talent gone way to soon. God must have needed her vocals in heaven is all I can think of. What a beautiful person she was/ is. She’s all around us.

Incredibly special singer and human being. She was a consummate vocalist and sang directly from her heart and that's what made her one of the greatest singers of all time. We lost her too soon. But, her music lives on in our hearts and the many singers she's touched. I'm a singer and still get chills and a tear when I listen to her Over the Rainbow and I Know You by Heart. She transcends her art and you feel her soul talking directly to your heart in all of her recordings.

I think her artistic restraint is one of the biggest components of her amazing ability.
If you take some of the great female singers like Aretha Franklin, or Céline Dion… they almost always manage to find a way in their vocal performances to go ‘over the top’, whereas Eva goes right to the edge of it, but she never goes over - beyond the bounds of good taste.
She is practically unerring in that ability... to push the music as far as it will go, but not beyond it.
I believe (and feel) that her music is a fantastic gift to the world. ❤️

Yes! She never begged for attention, tried to impress, or overwhelmed with over-the-top emotion. She was musically perfect, she was real, she felt every note, her interpretation is flawless - brilliant even. She was vulnerable and herself. No fear. I love her.

Her voice and music is timeless, sweet, soulful, skillful. She made those songs her own like no other singer I have ever heard. Andy Williams sang Autumn leaves years ago, and it moved me, She sang it and it made me cry. May she fly over the rainbow, and rest in blessed peace.

Eva was the best interpreter of lyrics, I have ever known. She sang from her heart and it was brilliant. These days singers promote song thru almost pornographic packaging. If you are a good singer, you don't need that. And Eva's longevity proves that

Mick is an amazing well of musical intuition How else could he have spanned five decades and made brilliant music in each of those. His comments regarding Eva therefore carry tremendous insight. Eva obviously moved as well as impressed this man who had seen so much in his time. His comments speak volumes. In her short time she made some amazing music that is so deep per her renditions and interpretation. Truly a musician's musician who was all natural and all heart. Thankfully it shows in her recordings.

Her music is beautiful in a way that goes straight to the heart and touches long forgotten feeling. Sad that she was taken away so young. Eva shares her rare and beautiful gift with us even today years after her passing.

In all fairness, the vice president of Blue Note, whom Eva auditioned with realized the mistake that he had made. He did reach out to her but it was too late. She had already died. He did go to apologize to her parents and friends. And most importantly he most likely was responsible for sending a copy of OVER THE RAINBOW to BBC Radio2 with a note saying, "play immediately". When it was played at 8:00AM on a Monday morning it stopped London in it's tracks. And the rest is History.
