I’ve always admired the fact that she refused to compromise her music to get a recording contract. She chose her art over commercial success. Unbelievably talented singer, listening to Eva still gives me chills. She’s certainly among the best ever, if not THE best.
Ever hear of Engelbert Humperdink or Mordecai 3-finger Brown? I don't understand the Maria Callas analogy. Cassidy was the greatest popular singer - hands down. Yet, she's not well known, which is a crime.
Her rendition of "Over the Rainbow" stopped me in my tracks as much as it stopped EVERYONE else in their tracks. Whenever I hear her nail these notes after the bridge into the stars, my eyes fill up with tears. I can't help it. It happens every_single_time. As sad as I am that she has been gone for so long the more thankful I am that we have Eva's voice and feeling as a contrary to all these plain pop chicks that fill our radio stations today.
I still cry when I hear E.C. sing Over the Rainbow. I first heard her on the radio a few years ago. I just stopped what I was doing to stand by my radio and give her my full attention. I just had to find out who she was. You don't just hear Eva sing, you feel it.
Her rendition of "Fields of Gold" stopped me in my tracks! Everyone has a bias to the artist who first makes a song popular, but on rare occasion a cover artist can make a cover song their own. A few others have made Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" their own too.
I am over 70yo, an old rock music fan, but when I discovered Eva around 2007 I was amazed at how I just kept crying when I heard her sing. Try her version of Fields of Gold.
I can’t listen to Eva’s ‘Fields of Gold’. It just tears me into pieces. I miss my late brother and my late husband so much when I hear Eva’s incredible version. What a voice!
Well said sir....i am the same age [70] and Fields of Gold has the same effect on me. Just played it three times in a row - still can't keep a straight face, very emotional😥
I was introduced to Eva by my brother-in-law about 22 or 23 years ago. I was so blown away by her cover of Over the Rainbow that I listened to it exclusively for about the next two weeks, and played it for anyone who would sit down long enough to listen. What an extraordinary talent, taken from us way too soon. RIP Miss Eva.
I seen this girl years ago on video sitting on a bed with her guitar. And heard after. Had cancer a beautiful girl and . What a beautiful voice. Over the rainbow 🌈
Eva was one of the most brilliant singers I have ever listened to. Unfortunately I never heard of her until after she passed. Would have loved to hear her live!! Rest in peace, songbird!! 💚☮️☘️
What I love so much about her is that she made every song she did her own. I usually don't care for many covers of songs I love, but every song she covered made it new for me.❤️
Her rendition of Autum Leaves gives me goosebumps. So sad she died so young. I just love her music so much and have her cd's. I'm thankful they were put together for us to enjoy. I believe I found her when I was looking for some new music at the bookstore. They used to have headphones so you could sample music. I bought whatever they had out for her. What a shining star.
Beautiful tribute to one of the world's greatest artist. I was introduced to her music here on TH-cam years ago when all I did was play music videos. I was overwhelmed by her angelic voice. One of my top female singers of all time. She is timeless now.
Thank you for this. I was introduced to Eva Cassidy by my mother about 10 years ago. Eva is gone to soon, gone to soon. Thanks to Chris for making the studio recordings. Condolences to Chris and the rest of Eva's family and extended family. Good for Mick Fleetwood.
This is the best short presentation of Eva’s career I have yet seen. I can never listen to her Wonderful World without tearing up. That, because she was dying when she sang it and because it is one of those songs that makes me appreciate life as it is.
I was driving in my car and had to stop to listen, then find out who this incredible singer was. Terry just said this is Eva Cassidy. I went that moment to buy everything I could that existed. I have never heard a more pure and beautiful version. It just made me cry.
Thank you very much for making this video available to us. Like many, I came to Eva late but immediately recognized her remarkable voice. And having such a talented band behind her dit hurt at all. She was a wonder. Her rendition of Songbird often brings me to tears.
Eva,s music is pure magic, she can amaze you with any genre of music. My favorite song of hers has to be Anniversary Song, OMG how many of us does that song speak too. God sent her to us and took her too soon.
I've loved Eva's beautiful renditions for many years. It reminds me of finding the music of Jim Croce in the early 1970s, a wonderful singer and songwriter who died just as his recordings were hitting public notice. Gone too soon!
She was a super artist, one of the most talented singers ever, a great acoustic guitar player, and she made stunning paintings that remind me of Odilon Redon, full of symbolism. She passed away, but we are still in love with her. My favourite Eva Cassidy cover: Kathy's song.
Beautiful Voice Beautiful Lady ❤️ Eva And My Beautiful Late Sister Were Born The Same Year My Sister Passed In 2010 At 47 From Cancer Hope There Both Resting In Peace ❤️💔
So thankful to see this tribute. Listening to Eva’s voice and arrangements are beautiful and almost always make me cry. She is so exquisitely beautiful.
Thank you for making this. I couldn’t love her more. Her guitar work in Over the Rainbow is as inspired as her vocal interpretation, with both together putting this song at a level of musical beauty I am positive will never in the life of the universe be surpassed
I remember the first time I heard her voice. It was in a record store and somewhere over the rainbow was being played on some headphones I just happened to pick up I was just completely mesmerized by her voice. Whenever I need to chill I just listen to one of her songs and it takes me to another place. I wish she was still with us. A beautiful soul for sure
Thank you so much for this background information for Ms. Cassidy. I have enjoyed her music for years, beginning when a radio station here in Seattle played one of her songs perhaps 20 years ago now. Her music is timeless and will be around as long as people enjoy good lyrics and melodies presented by an incomparable pure voice.
This makes me very sad and puts life into perspective. A beautiful lady and a beautiful soul. May Eva rest in eternal peace. Ar dheis dé go raibh a hanam.
I'm a musician singer and songwriter. I've been one of my whole adult life after I got out of the Marines I did it for a living. The first time I heard her wasn't that long ago a couple years. I was stunned it stopped me in my tracks. I quit what I was doing and started listening to everything she recorded. And I couldn't believe it and then I heard the story it actually broke my heart immediately. And I actually affected me for a couple days. It was so sad it was just I don't really know the words how to describe what I felt about it. It was what are the most tragic stories I've heard of. I know what it's like struggling as a musician. It's not an easy life it's not easy to do it full time.
I first heard someone talking about her on a homemade cassette. I ordered her Songbird cd. I played it so many times, I wore out 3 of them. Sometimes I left it on repeat ... for days. I need to find that cassette conversation to hear it again. Think I got it in with music at a thrift shop in VT. Best find, or I may not have ever known of her. Wish I had known of her while she was still living.
Hard to believe, If Eva had lived, she would have been 60 years old on February 2nd, 2023. Such a very talented singer and sad to think of all the music she would have gone on to record. Died way before her time...
Many thanks for this excellent biopic. Beautifully done. I have been a fan since l first heard Eva on the Wogan radio show. I treasure my copy of Songbird.
Just found her today, an offshoot of a FB page about Arland, who wrote the song for the movie; someone put a TH-cam clip of her, and I followed down the yellow brick road to see her. Glad I did.
No one and I mean no one outsings Eva. The very best vocalist ever....I cry for hours and hours listening to her music. Great vocalist lost. She really put her heart in her music. Sing Eva now in that heavenly choir. I miss you!
Too sad I can't take it anymore. It's like everyone is just discovering her now. I knew her songs twenty years ago. I played them as often as I could. Makes me too sad now
She should have been a super star, of the highest order, it's such a shame, that she never got to know, how much the world loved her marvellous voice..
Maybe it was time for her to go. Others loved her enough to save her voice, and made the world loved her as much. And she seems to have lived a happier life than Judy Garland.
I was cruising the 3d Street Promenade in Santa Monica in 2007 and went into a record store. Someone was singing "Over the Rainbow" I went to the clerk and said "Who's that?!!" I have all her CDs. My sister and I would listen to them as we traveled together in the last year of our mother's life (also breast cancer).
I first heard of Eva Cassidy on npr radio in a story about her short musical career. Later I purchased the Songbird CD and then every CD that was produced. A wonderful beautiful talent who left us way too young.
She was a year behind me at my High School, but I never met her. I'm going to a Concert celebrating what would have been her 60th Birthday this afternoon in Annapolis.
Oh my GOD THATS SO BEAUTIFUL! I am a classically trained singer who discovered her not long after her passing in the late 90s. Her voice is ANGELIC AND EXQUISITE. As a singer I can tell you that not only is her voice FABULOUS but her BREATH CONTROL, PHRASING, STYLE, ORIGINALITY, EVERYTHING about her as a MUSICIAN WAS PEFRECT. ..A TRUE ANGEL...😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Extraordinary voice. Another one gone too soon. RIP. Eva. "Strolling down easy street on a lazy afternoon Heard an angel on a six string strum a sad country tune She sang each word so carefully with a surgeon’s care That angel on easy street with the sun soaked hair..." from Song for Eva (Angel on Easy Street), JHB Music 2021
I had never heard of Eva Cassidy until young Lucy Thomas sang a moving musical tribute to Eva, Lucy sang Over the Rainbow, sitting down like Eva , accompanied by a stunning guitarist James Franklin, and sang the most beautiful version to Eva. Yes young Lucy admired Eva and as a fellow singer paid tribute to Eva with the most STUNNING version ever. Yes Lucy can sing and she did. so I looked up Eva found her version and learned about her and that she died a few months later. It was a class act of Lucy to honor Eva !!! I would suggest anyone look up LUCY THOMAS MUSIC on You Tube and see/hear her stunning tribute for your self !!
3:50 I discovered Eva through a book, if you must know, it was 50 Shades of Grey. Once I heard Songbird around 2015 and my life changed. She was a goddess, one of the best to ever do it.
if you are feeling down, listen to her rendition of How Can I Keep From Singing and crank up the volume. knowing she would soon die makes it very powerful.
How have I not ever heard of her? Her version of Over the Rainbow is the best I've ever heard. I suspect Katherine McPhee modeled her performance of the song after her.
Conosco un pò della sua storia, chi l'ha apprezzata la terrà per sempre nel suo cuore; era davvero brava ma non ha goduto il meritato successo, se n'é andata troppo presto, sfortunata ma talentuosa ragazza❤🌹
The most Beautiful voice I have ever heard. She can sing most Any style and Range. She had mole removed from her back. About a year later she collapsed on stage and subsequently it was found out she had cancer all over her body metastasis. She was 33 years😢😢 old when she died. Very sad story. She was most popular in Europe. I found her about a month ago . On eBay her CDs are priced anywhere from $18.00 to $47.00 original vinyl. I bid $5.00 on her first two CDs. If no one else bids they are mine . So Sad! But she Still lives thru her friends and her Music. When she sings Blues ,she sounds like Bonnie Rhett. She became a star after she died. She touches your heart very deep. She would have been at the top of every chart out there. God really pulls some ugly jokes on the world by taking the Young and Beautiful Once in a lifetime musicians, actors and Activist. Eva could and Mabe is All three After her I'll timed death in 1996. I hope you will find great as Beautiful as I do. My paternal Grandmother's name was *Eva*. A special lovely Name. Rarely heard in little girls named. My Great grandMother on the Mother's side was Johnnie Etta. If I had never had girls Etta and Eva would certainly have been their names.😢✌️🙏🧡🤎🍂She ended each of her performances with Over the rainbow. She sang it so different ,it just grabbed your heart. Love love loved how she styled that song. Her short life touched so many people. Painfully shy , she left the World a Wonderful catalog of her unique sound. She became a Very bright Star after she left us. Grateful the Angels pushed her out front for me to listen to. She's living IN the Rainbow now. A Beautiful place I'm sure!!🙏✌️🧡🍂🍁🌈🙄🤗👍
I absolutely WORSHIP HER. I discovered her, ( as a classically trained singer myself) in the late 1990s. Her death was a tragedy beyond WORDS....HER ANGELIC BEAUTIFUL VOICE WILL GRACE US FOREVER. WE STILL LOVE YOU EVA....XOXO FROM CHICAGO.....😇🥰🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😇
I A D O R E EVA 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 it is SO tragic how she died early from stomach Cancer 😭😭😭😭 She was so tender and such a Beautiful Soul 🎶💖 an unbelievable Voice that S O A R E D high above the Clouds! She was also an exceptional Painter too!
She actually died from melanoma. She had a cancerous mole removed in the 80’s and did not realize until shortly before her death in 1996 that the cancer had returned and spread through her body. She had hip pain and thought she was overworking herself while gardening, but it was actually the cancer spreading to her bones. The Live At Blues Alley concert was shot about 10 months before she died. That’s how quick it all was. If only I could have heard her music before her death. Unfortunately, I was only 4 at the time. I was not allowed to use the internet. She was too obscure of a name back then for me or my parents to discover her. So sad. It is somewhat similar to my experience with my favorite singer, Karen Carpenter, except I knew who she was from a very early age. I was born just under nine years after she died. The Carpenters have been my favorite band since I was 2 years old. Due to Karen’s untimely passing, there were no concerts I could go to, none of my classmates knew who she was. So sad overall. While I love being a 90’s kid, it’s the old music that makes me happy to hear. Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy, Linda Ronstadt, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Suzanne Vega, Sheena Easton, Alannah Myles, Wilson Philips, and so many others. Such great voices. I hate modern music. The only time I listen to a modern song is if it’s being sung by a older singer I like. Almost everything else is pure garbage.
I’ve always admired the fact that she refused to compromise her music to get a recording contract. She chose her art over commercial success. Unbelievably talented singer, listening to Eva still gives me chills. She’s certainly among the best ever, if not THE best.
Yes she is the very best Ive ever heard i cry for hours and hours after listening to her music
One the most angelic voices I've ever heard, Eva Cassidy will always be in my heart.
Eva Cassidy had such an angelic voice and she was such an artful guitarist. She nearly always makes me cry. She is gone too soon.
Her guitar arrangements are as gorgeous as her singing voice.
I was also born in 1963. I can't believe ive never heard of Eva until today. thank you TH-cam.

At times I'm gasping for breath at that moment. I believe I have never heard a singer able to communicate emotion like her.
I still cry when I hear E.C. sing Over the Rainbow. I first heard her on the radio a few years ago. I just stopped what I was doing to stand by my radio and give her my full attention. I just had to find out who she was. You don't just hear Eva sing, you feel it.

Fields of Gold is off this planet.
That and I can’t get through her “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” without sobbing.
Nightbird moves my soul.
I can’t listen to Eva’s ‘Fields of Gold’. It just tears me into pieces. I miss my late brother and my late husband so much when I hear Eva’s incredible version. What a voice!

i gave a copy of every Eva album to my mum she treasure's them and says itis the best gift she ever received she plays them often

Today was the first time I heard her! I choose her version of “Somewhere over the Rainbow “ for my Mom’s funeral service this coming Monday.
Thank you!❤
A wonderful singer. Her feeling is incredible. Goose bumps every time.
her music has helped me many many times

Of course you can't.
She's pure love.

Damn it. I wasn't planning on crying tonight.
Im glad i qm not the only one who cries when Eva sings. The most beautiful voice in the world,
Her rendition of Falling Leaves is breath taking. Gone MUCH too soon :(
Autumn leaves
Wonderful piece about a priceless artist
Incredible voice, pharseing, tone, really beautiful soul
I'm a musician singer and songwriter. I've been one of my whole adult life after I got out of the Marines I did it for a living.

Cork Ireland?
@@allencollins6031 i heard of it. I love Ireland. I wish I could see it.
Stunningly beautiful voice. Just discovered her. So thankful to hear that gifted voice God gave her.

It is unbelievable how someone with such a voice can be so selfless. No words ...
So glad to have heard her story here. ❤
Just heard of Eva, it’s 2024. What talent she had! Absolutely amazing! Thanks for this video!!!
Lol.
"Amazing."
Tell us you're daft without saying so.
Adults don't use words 11 year olds do.
Grow up and learn how adults speak.
Ever heard of Maria Callas?
Many thanks for this excellent biopic. Beautifully done. I have been a fan since l first heard Eva on the Wogan radio show. I treasure my copy of Songbird.
The very first time I heard Eva
I cried... I'm crying now ♡♡♡.
Thank you Johan. Beautiful rendition. Pip from Tasmania
Ps my wife and I used to take cancer patients to Germany . Clever doctors
I played Over the rainbow at my baby Son's funeral. It may sound like a weird song for a baby but Eva sang it so beautifully, it just fit xx
Just found her today, an offshoot of a FB page about Arland, who wrote the song for the movie; someone put a TH-cam clip of her, and I followed down the yellow brick road to see her. Glad I did.
So great to hear this background storry of this great singer and musichian. Thank`s alot 👍

Very good video, thank you. Such a rare talent, and what a beautiful legacy she left behind.
Too sad I can't take it anymore. It's like everyone is just discovering her now. I knew her songs twenty years ago. I played them as often as I could. Makes me too sad now
May her memory be a blessing
Thank you for the story. She was truly one of a kind with God given gift. Absolute perfection in her singing and guitar playing. What a terrible loss.
She should have been a super star, of the highest order, it's such a shame, that she never got to know, how much the world loved her marvellous voice..
Maybe it was time for her to go. Others loved her enough to save her voice, and made the world loved her as much. And she seems to have lived a happier life than Judy Garland.

Thanks for putting this video together.
A great insight into Eva's story, thank you!
I first heard of Eva Cassidy on npr radio in a story about her short musical career. Later I purchased the Songbird CD and then every CD that was produced. A wonderful beautiful talent who left us way too young.
Love Eva, she was a remarkable artist. I sorely miss her. RIP

She was awesome, I frequent Blues Alley, and I remember her passing.
Will never forget your lovely voice missed so much
Nicely done. Thank you. I live in Maryland, not too far from DC. I knew her music and some lore, but this helped set the record straighter for me🙏👍
Extraordinary voice. Another one gone too soon. RIP. Eva.

if you are feeling down, listen to her rendition of How Can I Keep From Singing and crank up the volume. knowing she would soon die makes it very powerful.
Amen!
How have I not ever heard of her? Her version of Over the Rainbow is the best I've ever heard. I suspect Katherine McPhee modeled her performance of the song after her.

So sad Beautiful lady
Such a beautiful heart, such a sad story. God bless you, Eva. We still miss you.
Niteline Profile 2001 did another wonderful story on Eva. There are no words I know of to describe how moved I am by her voice. What a treasure.
wanted to like this more than once
None better, thank you Eva! Love you, really, I do!

Skin cancer that spread
I discovered eva either in 2000 or 2001 when she was sort of just becoming known in the UK raw talent so sad what happened to her 😢❤❤
I love Eva Cassidy. She was an artist, a true artist.
IMO simply the G.O.A.T.
God enjoyed her angelic voice so much, He called her home to sing for Him.
Eva is amazing.
Very sad that she left very early we miss you Eva ❤
Why can't you punctuate?
Or is that something only intelligent people do?
