Annie did a tremendous job of speaking about John and his songs. You can feel her connection to him still. The sanctuary is such a loving tribute from his Colorado neighbors.

It was a real privilege to be part of the group planting the first trees in the sanctuary back in August 1998. It landed me in the hospital with altitude sickness, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I wasn't his biggest fan even though I met his parents when I was 12yrs old in Aspen. But I do miss him whenever I hear a song he wrote, what a talent. I missed meeting him but I met his his parents and they said he laughed when he heard that I was scared of the giant bee's in his yard. LOL... now I laugh too because they weren't really Bee's at all but hummingbirds.. At least I brought some laughter or joy into his heart as he all of us with his music and songwriting. I wished I could have met him then, wow what a story that would have been to tell my son... Peace and we all know and pray he's in paradise. 🙏.. Rocky Mountain high in Colorado was awesome... and Sunshine on my shoulders (in Florida) gives me sunburn... LOL... Miss you John...

I was there for the original dedication in October of 2000, and helped plant some trees and seed grass. I was there again in 2002, but haven't been back since, but I'd love to see it now with the expansion. I have photos from that 2000 ceremony and Annie has hardly changed one bit. She's a class act. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for sharing this video! I am looking so forward to seeing the Sanctuary later this fall. I really respect Annie Denver and all she does for the Aspen community.
This is the first time I have watched this video. I stumbled upon it today and I am glad I did. Thanks Frank! for sharing such a special video with us who loves John dearly. His Spirit will always be with us. So happy to see Annie and to hear her speak of their love for Colorado. Hope to visit JD Sanctuary one day soon. Thanks! again.

I planted some bushes in August of 1998. I have often wondered it they thrived or are still there. Haven't been back to the Aspen in October events since'02 or '03. Happy to see Aspen doing something to honor JD.

I have wondered if Annie has wished that she had been able to work through their problems and stayed married.
She said in an interview after his death that over the years they had conversations about their life together and they believed that if they had been more mature they could have worked things out. They were only in their mid 30's when they divorced which is so young to have gone through the success and pressure of John's career. There is no doubt there was an enduring love between them.
Annie is a lady , she has style. She looks so young and pretty🌹
