And his English is great as well, you can definitely tell that even though his accent is American, there’s some influence from Italian but he still somehow managed to sound like a native

I am from Poland and never have I heard someone speaking so well polish when its not his first language. This man used so many difficult words and pronounce them perfectly. I am really impressed and it is known that polish is hard to learn by foreigners because of its grammar. This video motivates and inspires me so much. Everything is possible, thank you so much for showing this.

It's funny for me how he put together Polish and Chinese. When I was learning Chinese myself, one of the native speakers working for the university was speaking fluent Polish. As in - if you wouldn't see a tiny Chinese lady in front of you, you wouldn't even know she's obviously a foreigner. I've seen different levels of proficiency when it comes to Polish, but she is like the unreachable golden standard. I only ever met a single other non-Pole speaking Polish that well, and she was Slovak, having obviously MUCH easier time - but in that case I've learned she isn't Polish after over two years.
When asked, Mrs. Wang gave probably the most contradictory advice on how she mastered Polish. She memorised it. At first, she tried the standard "learn all the grammar rules and then apply them in conversation", but that was too slow, taxing and ultimately her pronunciation was constantly "off", something that always exposes a non-native trying to speak Polish. So she switched to how average Poles do it - by simply knowing all the words needed, in the forms that are needed, rather than thinking about grammar. End result: you wouldn't know she's Chinese if she talked to you via phone or, how I first met her, when she was standing behind a bookshelf and simply talking with me. You can probably imagine my face when she eventually came from behind it and sit behind her desk.

Damn I'm so excited to learn languages already 😍

    • @Nicamon
      @Nicamon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@flannel_punk Maybe...but I'm not totally sure because there are some spanish words that _exist_ in the"italian version"but we don't really _use_ them,so some times when WE hear a spanish sentence we're able to understand it,but it's not granted that it's gonna work the other way around. For example...this is a line from an actual movie,"Spanglish".
*Spanish line:* "Cincuenta dolares es mucho dinero."
*Line with Italian words that sound like the spanish ones:* "Cinquanta dollari è molto denaro."
*Actual Italian line:* "Ma cinquanta dollari sono un sacco di soldi!"
*English line:* "Fifty dollars are a lot of money!"
As you can see...cincuenta/cinquanta and dolares/dollari are very similar words, but then you have "mucho"that we Italians *know* translates in"molto"(=a lot),but in the _actual_ line we hear the word"sacco" which sounds differently and the same goes for"dinero"that sounds like"denaro"so WE understand it,but the problem is that in Italian we _rarely_ use the word"denaro"in a colloquial situation...we usually say "soldi"which is a word that means exactly the same thing(=money)but sounds very differently.
But,yeah,in a lot of other cases I'm pretty sure you would be able to understand Italian if you knew Spanish well enough...just be careful with false friends, like"imbarazzata"that in Italian is the feminine for"embarassed"while in Spanish"embarazada"means"pregnant"!😅

      From what I've heard:
English: his accent is a mix of Italian and American accent so he could easily be identified as a New Yorker from Italian roots.
Italian: nothing to say, quite standard northern Italian accent.
French: also quite standard northern accent, there are only a few little details that can be noticed but only by native French speakers (like the way he pronounced "poteau"). However there were some mistakes in the subtitles. For example he should have written "Il n'a pas couru (takes one "r", current mistake by Italian speakers, and quite difficult to prevent since there are some times were "courir" takes 2 "r" like future - je courrai), il ne s'est pas enfui ("t" is for present)", there are "^" on "chaîne", "déchaîné". Another mistake is also quite hard for foreigners: he should have written "un étudiant de langues" and not "un étudiant des langues" (the first expression would be translated as "a language(s) student" and the second one as "a student of the languages" - and this second one looks as natural in English as in French).
German: his accent doesn't sound standard but his pronunciation is very good. You can easily notice most of non native German speakers when they fail to pronounce some words like "nur" (you must pronounce it a bit like "nuwe") but he passed the test.
Spanish: he could have tricked me if he had pretended to be a native Spanish speaker. HIs accent seemed very natural, especially the "s", a consonant that is quite peculiar in Spanish compared to other languages.

I can confirm that his German is seriously impressive. One small mistake I noticed is using "auswenden" (which isn't a word) instead of "anwenden". As for languages I speak, but not natively, his English, Spanish and Portuguese all sound flawless to me as well. Take that with a grain of salt, since English is the only one of those for which I would claim a high level of fluency. I think there are many "polyglots" out there who go for quantity over quality and struggle to hold more than a basic conversation in 80%+ of their languages. Don't get me wrong, it's still an insane accomplishment to speak 20+ languages even on a basic level. But I'm much more impressed with people like Luca here who also take the time to perfect the languages and not call it quits after being barely conversational.

It's the first time I hear about you Luca, and it's a pleasure to meet you. Language learning field is a wonderful thing, that makes me feel so curious, excited and happy. Learning any language takes a long time, in fact in the world we are all lifelong learners at anything. In my case I barely speak two languages: English and Spanish. I can speak English with some confidence by practicing myself and consuming plenty of English content through Internet even though I've never talked to native English speakers in real life. I'm not fluent in English yet. Obviously I can speak Spanish because I'm completely surrounded by the language and it's my first language. Such an eye-opening surprise!!! When learning any language, our brains get used to it, and absolutely switching the brain from our native language to English, from English to another language and so on can be hard and exhausting. Usually people have a misconception about learning foreign languages I think, they only know their native language throughout their lives in a boring or even threatening environment, they think they don't need to learn another one because guess that any foreign language is rough or it can also be a lack of interest due to their busy lives in many cases. No one in my family speaks English, they only speak Spanish. What a boring and unbearable reality!!! On the other hand, English is the undisputed global language nowadays and I think that learning English is the gateway to learning other languages. Everyone on Earth needs to learn and master English. It's just a matter of taking on a new challenge because learning English can radically change our lives in any field. Lastly, I'd love to learn French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Dutch and Ukrainian properly to speak them confidently and fearlessly. They're my target languages so far. There will always be several mistakes on our path to fluency in any language we like, and that's completely normal and understandable. Acquiring a new language is a huge challenge for us so we have to get real, but it's worth it of course. 🥰

Nice video! You have inspired me to learn 9 languages and I am especially glad that you studied Hungarian because it's my native language! Thanks for the video Luca!

Impressive! As for German, you made a couple mistakes (e.g. „auswenden“ ) and used some expressions natives don‘t use but nothing major 👍

My jaw dropped when he switched to Hungarian.
He's the first polyglot I've ever heard speaking my mother tongue so well. I'm very impressed. 😍

Muszę przyznać, że Twój Polski jest na prawdę świetny! Nawet nie spodziewałam się, że będziesz mieć aż tak dobry akcent ;). Pozdrawim serdecznie ;)

I'm native polish speaker. It was obvious that polish was not your native language but it was excellent never the less. I've been living in US most of my life and if I met you on the street I would have presumed you're a native English speaker. I used to speak Russian well enough that when I was in Moscow, i had no problem communicating and no one asked me where I was from. Your Russian was very good. I used to speak German well enough to have basic conversation and your German sounded great to me. I pretty much understood everything you said. Same for Spanish which I had a lot of exposure to and been trying to learn on and off. Excellent job! Very impressive!

Man, your Russian is amazing, as russian I can say that sometimes russian people can't explane their thoughts like you did that in russian part of this video. Even intonation, even pronounciation - brilliant as for foreign language. Wish you all the best and keep going!

Your Chinese is brilliant for someone that isn't a native speaker, hats off to you. There were some very minor phrasing and tonal issues but it is arguably better than me, a native speaker.

Ich bin Deutscher und das ist echt krass, wie muttersprachlich du dich anhörst. Klar man hört an manchen Stellen einen Akzent heraus, aber größtenteils klingt ist echt muttersprachlich. Wenn die anderen Sprachen genauso gut sind, dann echt krassen Respekt!
