I have a 4 hose system and now need to get a compressor. Long term, would you still say this smittybuilt is the way to go? Or are there better options now? Which would you go wtih if you were buying one today? I know they have bigger CFM compressors now, but storage space is also a premium. So for me, its a size vs speed balance.
I think you did a great job with this mod. I didn't read all the comments and maybe some else already suggested this. A check valve on your leader hose will extend the life of your compressor in two ways. The compressor won't have the back pressure from the tires pushing back on it making it work less hard each time you stop to check your tire PSI. Second it is possible for air to leak back through the compressor deflating the system while you pause to check tire pressure. Because you don't have a pressure switch DO NOT turn on the compressor until everything is connected, the air has no place to go and you risk damaging the compressor.
At 6:10 your hose coupler shown will probably damage a few compressors if people follow that advice. As I recall, the Smittybilt instructions warn against running the compressor without relieving the pressure. The female coupler shown at 6:10 will work on an air accumulator tank where the compressor shuts off when it reaches a certain amount of pressure. Turning the compressor on as shown at 6:10 will result in the compressor immediately achieve maximum pressure and the pressure release valve will repeatedly pop.
Exactly correct. I like Adventure Build's videos in general. But the type of compressor the smitty and its clones are will be damaged by this direct unrelieved connection can easily destroy this type of compressor
I did a similar mod and added some others. I added a pressure switch too. One thing I did too was add a 10ga SAE connector to my front bumper and converted the aligator clips so I don't have to open the hood every time.
The similar-looking Vevor is now priced at $76.99 on their website vs. $203.99 for the Smittybuilt, making the Smittybuilt 2.6 times more expensive. I have been using the Vevor compressor for several months and it has been working great. Would be nice to see you do a side-by-side comparison. I followed your lead and made the same modifications to connect it to my four-tire inflator and deflator system. Definitely the way to go.
A more accurate timed experiment comparison has to include all the unpacking, setup, teardown and repacking the equipment as well as the time required to actually put air into the tires. It's the time you spend messing with it from beginning to end and you are back on the hard top (going from the driver's seat to back into the driver's seat with all 4 tires adjusted)
I just got the same set up since I have my Smittybuilt I got years ago. Does your Morrflate gauge PSI readings match the TPMS on your truck? My Morrflate gauge is much lower than my Jeep JLs readings
This was so extremely helpful. I just built my own 4 way air hose system and I’ve been trying to decide what pump to use that will work with my 4 way system well and this video answered that question perfectly.
Great video!! I'm going to get this exact set up now. Question: When the system is completely connected, are you supposed to open the valve and then turn on the compressor or turn on the compressor and then open the valve? Will it create back pressure if the valve is closed? I don't believe the smittybilts have an auto shut off for pressure like other compressors do. Thanks for the help.
I personally like to turn on the compressor and then quickly open the valve when starting. Then when I want to check the pressure I close the valve and turn of the compressor. It’s really easy to do since it’s all right at the front of the rig. Glad I could help.
I LOVE my MORRflate. Definitely one of my favorite purchases. Most of these compressors are way more capable than the single hoses they come with, so using a multi-tire system really makes the most of the compressor. One recommendation I have is to do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the MORRflate dust caps. When you're airing up at trailheads it's impossible to keep those chucks clean and soon they become very hard to use. They aren't too hard to clean, but you don't want to try and do it on the trail.
I run 265/75 R16s on my 2017 access cab taco, and I have a fiberglass ARE camper shell. How can I know what pressure is likely the best for my Michelin Defender tires? Should I stay at 32 psi, as written inside the door?
I swapped the connections on my smittybilt about 2 yrs ago , including the fill hose swapped to one from lowes. Works much better but not as good as that Morrflate setup. Now I have to consider the 4 tire setup ! I would be interested to see how the new compressor matches up with the smittybilt. .
I love our portable compressors as opposed to on board air. It's specifically for airing tires so I figure why use up space for all this on board stuff. Especially when some vehicles are space limited. Rather use that space for dual batteries or something. But the main reason ... I can take it in the house. So if someone takes my Jeep ... all my stuff is still mine. I just find them convenient, myself. But like you said ... easy to wander it over and help someone else out. Everyone has their own now, at our house.
If hoses are to tight to get them over fittings, just grap an electric kettle and dip just the first 3/4 of an inch in the boiling water. Now you can attach the hose with ease.
Did you use the 125" wheelbase kit? The specs for the Taco DCSB are 127" wheelbase, it looked like you had plenty of length on the kit you used. Thanks
So if I got with the smittybuilt 2781 and the morrflate option...The morrflate kit comes with everything I need to attach it directly to the compressor? Or do I still need other fittings? Thanks!
Do you find your Smittybilt handle gets extremely hot and need a shirt to pick it up after inflating the tires? The compressor works great, but gets so damn hot! Need to get the MORRFlate! Looks great.
At trick we use when we need to lube something like a fitting but want it to be more permanent is using hairspray. Works great as a lube for a few minutes and once it dries it is a much more solid connection.
Thank you for that comparison..I often wondered which was faster the 4 tire vs the single tire.. but nobody ever included the time to unravel and connect the 4 hose system within the inflation time. That is pretty impressive... Almost a 5 minute differential... That dessert armor compressor is really a beast.. Twice the CFM compared to the Smitty 2781. Summit racing has a similar one for about $180 and Napa has one for about $114.. Unfortunately they seem to be sold out. The advantage of the desert armor one is it has the pressure switch already built in..
agreed...I have the smitty 2781 and if I could do it again I think I may have gotten the napa one for double the cfm. wonder if the smittybilt would outlive the napa one though
Hey nice video man I just wanted to verify does the smittybuilt compressor work really good with the 4 way inflate is it worth it if I dont want to buy the arb one? Are those 8 minutes how long it took to air up with that compressor or just to set up?
The smittybilt compresor does just as good a job as an arb compressor and the 8 minutes time is just what you see in the video. It doesn’t include pulling everything out from storage. Just the time it takes to open the Morrflate, make all the connections and turn the compressor on and air up to 40psi.
I modded my Viair to inflate two tires and once by adding a T in the hose and swapping to clamp on valve fittings. It didn't cut my time in half but it only cost about $20. When the Viair finally dies I will go with the Smittybilt compressor.
A good idea would be to use the universal female fitting so you can use either an automotive or a I/M fitting if you ever need to use any endpiece other than your own or you are airing up a tank or whatever for someone else. I have the same compressor marketed by HF and it works great. Are there better ones? Sure but at multiple times the cost. I like thet I can take this compressor for the trail, but leave it at home during the week.
I went co2 and haven’t looked back. People love it. Just the quietness of it makes it worth it, but it’s also insanely quick. I never realized how fatiguing the noise was until it was gone. . People love to brag about their maxitrac compressor. It’s nowhere near as fast. Just did a Baja trip where I deployed my tank after a maxitrac just started filling a tire, I filled all of mine from 20 to 35psig, put it all back, and he just started on his 3rd tire. . Not much will compete with a 500-700 psig tank regulated down to 200psig. I have the larger HF unit under my seat in case I ran out of co2. . We were at a camp site one night and I was topping every rig off because their compressors were too loud to run and we left early.
As a diver I have the tanks, the 1st stage regulator takes it down to 150psi I have the BC inflator to air chuck adapter So if I'm on a dive trip that gear is already in the LR4, if not I have and Ironman compressor
One way to help you know when your CO2 tank may be getting close to empty is to weigh it when it’s full, when it’s empty and even after your avg re-inflation of your tires. This way you know about how much you have and how much you likely need before your next trip. I also have a cheap compressor I take on the trips when I’m near the end of my tank.
😂 your cutting off nitto fittings standed use in Australia.... then in Australia we cut of what ARB use (what your adding) as only ARB use then here and charge the earth. 😂
Great video to stumble upon after I ordered my Smittybilt air compressor!
I like that you included the deployment time for the morrflate as well to make it a more realistic comparison. Nice one!
Thank you so much!
Man, I always felt that my smittybilt compressor took forever. I'm glad I came across this mod.
There are definitely better options out there. I recently did a compressor review. Check out that video for sure.

Great info. Thank you. I’ll definitely look into adding a check valve. Much appreciated!!!
Are the check valve and pressure switch the same thing?
At 6:10 your hose coupler shown will probably damage a few compressors if people follow that advice. What’s the solution?
I did a similar mod and added some others. I added a pressure switch too. One thing I did too was add a 10ga SAE connector to my front bumper and converted the aligator clips so I don't have to open the hood every time.
Go with the Napa MaxiTrac compressor that one is rated a lot higher than all the other compressors I’ve seen awesome video.
I have this compressor and it rocks!
I want it so bad but it’s sold out
Would it work if I modified the Milwaukee inflator like that ? I have the big one. Does it have enough power ?
I’m sure it would work. I used the Morrflate on my big compressor and worked great.

No they are different. I don’t think the TPMS is as accurate. I have used multiple gauges and non have matched the dash.
Really enjoyed this video, thank you!
What was the recoil air hose on your list used for ?
This was so extremely helpful. I just built my own 4 way air hose system and I’ve been trying to decide what pump to use that will work with my 4 way system well and this video answered that question perfectly.

Just the video I was looking for!🤙
Did the inflation hose and splitter get pretty hot to the touch? Im making sure thus is normal. Ive only used it once.
Yea mine have always gotten gotten. I always wear gloves when airing up.
Did you make or purchase that flexzilla 4 way air hose?
I purchased the Morrflate 4 way and it rocks.
I LOVE my MORRflate. Definitely one of my favorite purchases. Most of these compressors are way more capable than the single hoses they come with, so using a multi-tire system really makes the most of the compressor. Can you change the connection from battery clamps to an outlet plug to plug into an inverter?
You definitely can but you will have to cut the cable and splice in your preferred connection point.
Do you have quick disconnects for valve stems as well??
What's the rush? Are you racing or something? Looks like all that extra hose takes up a lot of space too.
I've got the same Smittybilt compressor and I really like it. Best one I've had.
I run 265/75 R16s on my 2017 access cab taco, and I have a fiberglass ARE camper shell. How can I know what pressure is likely the best for my Michelin Defender tires? Should I stay at 32 psi, as written inside the door?
Getting the Morrflate & a Viair 400P was the first off-road specific "mod" I did! Even before getting a lift and lights!
I swapped the connections on my smittybilt about 2 yrs ago , including the fill hose swapped to one from lowes. Works much better but not as good as that Morrflate setup. Now I have to consider the 4 tire setup !

I'm pretty sure that's not a proprietary connector, it's just a Euro one. You can get adapters to convert it.
So if I got with the smittybuilt 2781 and the morrflate option...The morrflate kit comes with everything I need to attach it directly to the compressor? Or do I still need other fittings?
Thanks!
Did this to my HFT compressor (basically identical to the Smittybilt)
Great video!
Great video man !!! 🤟🤟🤟
Thank you very much!!!
Anytime brotha 🤟
Now all you need is a pressure switch installed on the smittybilt! Love mine with it.
What’s the purpose of that? And how is it installed?
try the Napa 300LPM AIR COMPRESSOR .
It’s fast!
Very honest and informative as usual. Thank you.
Do you find your Smittybilt handle gets extremely hot and need a shirt to pick it up after inflating the tires? The compressor works great, but gets so damn hot!
Need to get the MORRFlate! Looks great.
Mine gets hot & I have to let it cool before packing it away. Especially on hot summer days!
A comparison to both the ARB's would be nice too.
I've heard the NAPA one is a pretty good one. Curious about it compared
The same setup I have. Made that 'adjustment' to my Smittybilt as well.
How are you running power to your compressor? A little detail on that set up would be sweet. Thanks
battery clamps he showed for the connection
I've added a pressure cut off switch on mine. Easy mod. Look into it.

Excellent video, thank you.
Is this the 2781 (5.56)??
Sure is.
Heads Up: Keep those head bolts tightened down. They work loose & the lubrication oil leaks out of the cylinder.
I modded my Viair to inflate two tires and once by adding a T in the hose and swapping to clamp on valve fittings. It didn't cut my time in half but it only cost about $20. When the Viair finally dies I will go with the Smittybilt compressor.
Napa maxi trac has a double air compressor for 100 bucks. Super fast

Good morning,this is splendi d!see ya!!man. :)
New Sub today, 2/26/22 thank you, ordered the 7281 2 days ago.
Awesome. Thx. Hope you dig it.
I have the same compressor…love it.
Yes please do a comparison

Buy a twin piston compressor and a decent inflator looks like it had a nitto style fitting before there is no need to remove it
MORRflate Sells a Smittybilt adaptor.
Just unthread the oem hose and replace the leader hose with a chuck… no need to chop it and cobble it together.
😂 your cutting off nitto fittings standed use in Australia.... then in Australia we cut of what ARB use (what your adding) as only ARB use then here and charge the earth.
😂
Let’s see the side by side!!!
My Smittybilt gets really hot if I let it run for 10 minutes!
get a bicycle pump.
All the gear and no idea.
