I was there! I got there a little late but made it. Then went to the Kingston mines afterward. One of my favorite places in Chitown. I am planning on seeing the shows in Cincinnati and or Columbus. 3 hours is my driving limit for a concert. There are not many bands I would bother doing this for.
A timely, musically gifted punk band that actually had great lyrics and something to say. They were ... and are ... remarkable. Seeing them Apr. 10th in Los Angeles. Can't wait!
Just got home from seeing X again. This time at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Another incredible show! Great mosh pit too ... old heads vs. newbies. X is so good, but seeing them live takes it to another level entirely. Truly one of the best live bands ever. DO NOT miss them if you have a chance to catch a show. Trust me, you'll never regret it. I'm already thinking about next year.
finally got to meet them all after 30 years at a ventura show...also seen them at the roxy with ray last year...epic night..super cool people and are glad to talk to you..girlfriend got a hug from john doe..super cool..
I agree. There is so much talent with this band and such great music. They are to LA what the Ramones were to NY. Everyone has a favorite Ramone. Everyone has a favorite X. This band needs to be in Cleveland!
Saw X on 4/10. It was insane! A mosh pit like I've not seen in 25 years, crowd surfing, and oh yea ... a band who's music is timeless and who still perform with the energy, drive and passion of 20 year olds. By the way ... I'd say only 20% of the crowd was around when X came on the scene. Most were in the 25 to 35 year old range, and about 20% were younger than that. It's great to see the next generations discovering and appreciating a truly gifted band like X.
I saw them in Chicago the following evening -- sounds like they played the same set. Awesome show! I'm seeing them again Saturday night in Minneapolis.
Saw them in Indy last night. You will be impressed. They sound almost studio as they were and look fantastic. A typical but full playlist. They left out Adult Books and Bad thoughts but kicked ass! Billy was embracing the experience and quite cooperative with the fans. Actually posing for cell phone pics and such. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW! Kudos Billy. A genuine nice guy!
I`m glad you enjoyed the show as much as I did. I was worried before the show after not having seen them for so long that it would would be a dissapointment. After seeing Debby Harry perform on tv recently realy makes age a reality. X eXceeded any eXpectations I had. It`s only a couple weeks away from their second midwest swing. Can`t wait! A dave Alvin cameo would be cool. To see Billy and Dave together tearin it up would be awesome!
I had the same worries. I also was afraid that the crowd would be a bunch of 50 year olds standing around remembering when life was fun. What I got was an experience that was as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. Just got tix to their June 13 show at the House of Blues. Can't wait.
Oh yeah, the roxy, Scream (which was always a pain to find it week to week), and I missed the Masque since I was in Jr. High at the time that was going.
I hope you get to one of the OH shows! The Minneapolis show was even better than the Chicago show, which I thought was incredible. I don't know if it was the soundman or what...enjoy the additional shows!
I 2nd your sentiments. When I first heard X's Soul Kitchen in the 80's I thought it was an X song. Even though I liked the Doors, I was only familiar with their KMET rotation plays i.e; Light my Fire, etc. I love the X version way better.
I have to disagree. It's nothing like the original. They made it their own song - and Ray obviously likes it too. It works on both levels for me and I like the X version better. Times change and so do the sounds.
KILLS me I had tickets to see X and Ray...should have took my daughter...missed the show. Ray passed, kid got into college. I guess the point of the message is, despite the cost, travel fees, etc., go see the bands you love.
wow, what an honor.
I love Doors, I love punk, I love L.A.
Wanna move there, but back in time.
Rest in Peace, Ray...you brought us The Unheard Music. Thank you.

I saw X many times in LA, and was at these shows in the early 80's. They still rock to this day and play concerts.

my favorite band of all time....

With the way Jim Morrison acted on stage I can't see how you could deny it.

God...I miss X. I hear there will be a reunion, not sure if it's just for a concert or a tour. Jon, Exene, Billy and DJ were just pure magic.
That guitarist is bad ass.
top jimmy and the rhythm pigs... the meat puppets... blood on the saddle...the blasters
I 3rd your sentiments. The X song kicks ass.

There are moments on the Door's Morrison Hotel ("Land Ho") and L.A. Woman ("Cars Hiss By My Window") that have an X sort of feel to them.
Oh yeah, the roxy, Scream (which was always a pain to find it week to week), and I missed the Masque since I was in Jr. High at the time that was going.
they tour all the time
especially at house of blues
At 1:13 you can see John's disgusted with Manzarek having his mouth all up next to his. Look at his expression as Ray pulls away from the mic.
Exene Cervenka has both John Doe and Strider on her dance card. Wow.
I hope you get to one of the OH shows! The Minneapolis show was even better than the Chicago show, which I thought was incredible. I don't know if it was the soundman or what...enjoy the additional shows!
esse som é muito foda!!!!

Just caught a show. They actually are performing better than they did in the early 80`s. Take advantage of that caus they are touring right now!
cathay de grande, madam wongs, the central, starwood...ya me too....
I miss these days....The Whiskey...the Anti Club....Lhasa.

That's a brilliant title, though. "It Sounds Like Murder" Kind of makes you pick a side; Are You In or Out?
hardcore americana. they were l.a. royalty.
Really? No one gave Ray his own mic?
sounds like these guys are rushing the tempo a little bit. I love x and the doors but soul kitchen to me does not work as a punk song.
It worked for Ray Manzarek. He absolutely loved that X sped up Soul Kitchen and made it their own way.
..god i hate punk...and this sucked. I love the doors...but this was sad.
I agree puke punk shi#
