I watched the Wheeler Dealer episode on this Stag.If I remember correctly, the radiator was replaced with an upgraded unit which had a larger core compared to the standard radiator,To make sure the car would never over heat again,Edd China, filled the rad with a waterless liquid. He demonstrated how good this stuff was,by removing the radiator cap with the engine at full temperature,a process that would normally result in a visit to your local burns unit.Amazingly.there was no pressure at all in the cooling system.

The radiator thing is correct, they did change that in a Stag, However, waterless coolant was introduced in the Triumph TR6 episode, which was, i think, aired sometime after the Stag episode. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, i haven't watched this in a long time.

@@Jankovic21412 Correct. I watched the Stag WD episode; didn't see waterless coolant.
My Stag had a 4 core rad for years; (bought it in 93, first thing I fitted, did all my cross Australia trips (Melbourne/Perth) with that) then about 8 years ago I fitted an Ally rad. So far so good.
I never needed to try waterless coolant. Mine never gets above 92 deg around town. Elec fan comes on, down to 87, turns off. Here in Australia with routine high 30's summer temps, elec fan (largest, 16 inch) is a must.
On interstate trips, temp wandered up to 95 (ambient was up to 48 peak, but normally 40 all day); but I was cruising at 130 kmh dawn to dusk. Not a hoon, but on the nullabor plain, you don't see another car all day, so......
When you stopped, fan just cycled on and off 92 to 87.......
Mine doesn't go interstate anymore. Just goes to the shops, and occasional blast in the hills.
      :-)

Even with its issues, I'd still love to own and cruise around in this Calif (Bay Area) sunshine in a Triumph Stag with the original 3 liter motor under the hood, it's just a great lookin little rig....

I'm in the US, purchased a 73 Stag that had the engine swapped to a small block Chevrolet V8. The body and interior were in great shape, some of the conversion work was so so. They are great looking cars too bad the build quality was questionable.

Always wanted one of these in (Vermilion?) Yellow, just like the one at the beginning of Diamonds Are Forever. Have to say, this one looks really good in white though. And that Triumph V8 motor, what a sound. One of my all time favourite cars.👍

The Wheeler dealers Jensen Interceptor was for sale on Ebay a while ago. Really rusty. As I remember they did not repair the A/C which on this type of car is a must. Nice Stag.

Back in the 80's I saved up 3 grand which would have bought a half decent example, the future misses then said that was better spent on a house deposit should have bought the Stag & dumped her would have saved a fortune!

Hi I used to work at Triumph(B.L)then in Canley, Coventry and we used to drive the cars to put miles on for the press shows the first Stag I drove was camouflaged to look like a Triumph 2500 estate and was seen all over the Coventry and Birmingham area

About the same time as this Stag was produced, Dad bought a new Austin 1800 "Land Crab". It was actually K-reg but very late K. Another fortnight or so and it would have been L. Cost something like £1250 and replaced a Mini Traveller. We all thought the Austin was absolutely huge!

Thanks. This is a very good Video. Reminds me of my Stags. i had KDP 908L in White.
there was Ermin White & Old English White.
I actually have the an original Stag Brochure from 1976 /77.
My other one was Mimosa Yellow. The Later Yellow was Inca Yellow.
My yellow one was an Automatic, Manual is Far better.
Triumph Really Messed up Big time on the Stag with the Engine.
They had the Fabulous 2500 'S" 6 in line engine. and as part of BL had the Rover V8.
I would be MORE than Happy to have the 2500 as a factory fit engine. & they could have played around with the Rover V8 & Tuning to offer 2 stag engine options.
Even a Dolly Sprint 16 V unit would be Good.
No-One Today really Hammers a stag 40,000 miles a year on the motorways these days.
The Police used Triumph 2500's some reached 130 / 140 mph. so it is said.
Do you have a video of your Stag ? It would be good to see a stage by stage Restoration as you go along, .
Due to Rarity & Cost, I gave up with old Triumphs many yrs ago at a time when Big spends were not viable. or practical.
I wish i had Kept on searching for THE RIGHT car for me. a good 2500'S' in inca Yellow. with fold back Webasto Roof.
I had lots of Dolomites, Me & the Lads Had a Laugh for Years ! Dolomites R US.
    & all the other Terms ( DlopofS**te, Doloshites, )
I used to buy every reasonable one i saw at auction.
Due to Lack of Supply i Moved on to BMW's . I now have some 5 series e34's 525i 's
A very similar Car to the Triumph 2500's. if you look very closely.
BMW actually copied British car design.
I also think the ROVER 827 saloon was very similar in style to a 2000/ 2500. but with a modern tweak.
I also Ran out of Good Fords to buy at the right money. Mk1 fiestas, Mk2 escorts, I had a couple of Oyster Gold Mk2 escort 1600 ghia manuals. Loads of capri's. inc 2.8s ,
& special edition Fiestas, & Cortina 2.3 V6 cologne engine.
The Capri had 5 speed box, The 2.3 V6 cortina only had 4 sp box, But power steering. A 5sp box would make a MAGICAL V6 cortina.
6 Cyl cars are Double the car of a 4 cyl version.
Hence i run a BMW 525i SE Manual, 2.5 6 in line 24v = Brilliant car. Nothing ever seems to break or go wrong. & BY HELL they Are Way Faster than you can imagine. ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE = I Agree 100%. Fast as Hell & handle as nimble as a small car, A big car but easy to Throw around the Hairpin bends in the hills of Yorkshire at a LIGHTNING PACE. way over the Sp Limit if Required. 50% over & still Composed & stable as if on Rails. ( according to TRACK Testing. at high speeds )
I wish it was a 2 seater convirtible, then it would be even More ACE !

Chris at stagweber i thought the same. I’m sure even on Wheeler dealers made the same sound. Our 76 inca yellow has started making the same sound , my dad thought the timing chains maybe.

    • @MostEasterlySteve

It would have made for a more reliable car for sure but when on song the Triumph is the nicer engine. Higher revving, more BHP per litre, more fuel efficient and far nicer sounding than a contemporary Rover V8.
