I had two. I first had a c250 which was a more fairly basic unit, couldn't do videos but was quite small and incredibly easy to use. Got an e250 a couple years later as a birthday gift. That light up blue wheel that spins, that was always fun to use. Always wanted a Sansa Fuze (not the Fuze+) or a View, but by that time my media player was my Sony PSP, ha.
This was my first MP3 player as well. Absolutely loved the thing, but I came to find out (the hard way) that syncing the device with the m:trip software would rewrite the device's library database as well as part of the device's firmware. So unplugging the device without "safely ejecting" could actually permanently brick the device. As a little kid, I was absolutely devastated.
This was my favorite MP3 player growing up. Loved it so much I got the M:Robe 500 which was one of the first touch screen MP3 players with a built in camera. The pinnacle of human engineering. Wish you had that one laying around

I bought one of these and still have it. Loved it for the touch controls and amber display. Your right the mtrip software was cumbersome and needed updates for it to work well. Also I remember having to do a software update to the player to fix the low volume output issue it had from the factory. There was a m:robe online user forum back in the day where users would share hacks and fixes.
I think we all ended up using Rockblox in the end. I last uploaded music to my m:robe about 5 years ago and have left it maxed out ever since, plugged in as a background music device and novelty display item.

I had one of these in high school and it was so cool. The touchscreen and red LEDs were worth putting up with the terrible software (and pretty much all software I used back then was pretty awful) I'd actually forgotten the name of the mrobe but no way I'd forget that aesthetic or how much I loved it back in the day.
The M:robe is like one of those C-tier superheroes, that are heaps powerful, but have a host of crippling weaknesses that keep holding them back like poorness and living parents.
Man the m:robe was such a cool nugget. I got one instead of an ipod nano back in the day and ended up drowning it in soup on my way home from school. (thermos burst in my backpack and m:robe marinated in the soup). Tried to get it fixed but it was gone. The volume was extremely quiet but the touch panel and that metallic white on the back was just amazing.
Back during that Era, there were two trends with earbud wires. First was a 'short' and a 'long' length. If your nugget was in your shirt pocket normally or in your backpack you would use the shorties. If your nugget was in your pants pockets, you would use the long. The asymmetrical length after the split was so that the cord to your nugget would be mostly on one side of your body.

Man the m:robe was such a cool nugget. I got one instead of an ipod nano back in the day and ended up drowning it in soup on my way home from school. (thermos burst in my backpack and m:robe marinated in the soup). Tried to get it fixed but it was gone. The volume was extremely quiet but the touch panel and that metallic white on the back was just amazing.

Back during that Era, there were two trends with earbud wires. First was a 'short' and a 'long' length. If your nugget was in your shirt pocket normally or in your backpack you would use the shorties. If your nugget was in your pants pockets, you would use the long. The asymmetrical length after the split was so that the cord to your nugget would be mostly on one side of your body.
