The term "sealed" needs to be legally regulated. Basically, if Customs is going to unseal it, it should be legally required to say something like: "In certain countries, Customs may unseal this item."
In Sri Lanka if the customs want to unseal an object they send you a form stating that you product is on hold at the customs. If you want it to be open in front of you, you can go to the customs with form. Or you can pay the customs fee at the local post office. I thought this was hassle. But after this video, I think what they do is ok.
Tbh, it's not just Ebay that does this. Got a printer repair, sent from us a respected company to a respected company. Hardly the first time we've ever sent a package and won't be the last(hopefully). Absolutely no reason this should've been done. I open the box, pull out the RMA/Repair order paperwork, and just get sad. "Printer arrived broken into by TSA", the thing legitimately looked like it was pulled open using a crowbar.
The only problem is that as a seller it can often be worse, literally anyone can abuse the refund system and they won’t even have to send whatever it is back

I ordered a server GPU from a seller in the UK and used the ebay shipping as it was cheaper and supposedly just as fast as the more "traditional" shipping. It was a Tesla M40 that was supposed to have a fan mod to cool it in a regular case. When it arrived the box was in brutal shape. The exterior shroud had the classic massive scar and the fan was missing, with the 3d printed fan mount snapped apart. I of course got in contact with the seller, who showed pictures of the whole thing together and packaged pretty well in a different box. I ended up printing my own fan adapter and mounted a fan I bought from microcenter to it and have been rendering stuff on it and using it for a virtualized gaming setup for two players on one pc.

I felt that end bit about supporting local business. I used to get my meds from a Walgreens, and they were SEVERELY understaffed. Like I think they genuinely only had one full time pharmacy tech. The cars for the pharmacy drive thru would literately go around the entire store. But I ended up finding a local small like five stores big chain of pharmacy literately in a neighboring shopping center. Go in, they remembered me and my name by the second visit, have even refilled prescriptions on very short notice. Amazing people! Like this is exactly what I tell people. If we lose them, we end up bitches of a giant corporate machine that'll come up with new ways to screw us over with no way being able to do anything about it.

This is why I always pay with a card, because then you can demand a chargeback from your bank (card issuer), and they're legally required to comply. I got scammed on eBay last year (for 200 USD). eBay deleted the seller's account (including the listing) because it was suspicious. And because the listing was gone, I couldn't complain to eBay. I sent a message to my bank requesting a chargeback, explaining what happened (with screenshots, seller name, card number, date, transaction id, etc), and after a month I had my money back. I didn't have to fill out any paperwork, didn't have to talk to anybody. One message, and that was it. Crisis averted. No questions asked. This procedure always applies, when you don't receive a product, or product/service is different from advertised. You get money back from your card issuer, and then it's their problem.
working in logistics. its all about meeting your quotas, taking no regard to that some items require extra care. Even though the company knows that this is an issue they still don't bother fixing it because its all about quantity rather than quality.
I'm so glad SOMEONE mentions how HORRIBLE eBAy's Global Shipping program is. I've only had one experience as a seller, but now i try to avoid it. Been following recent, dude and already love ur vids. Can't wait to see more! I'll leave my story here: My story starts in Dec 2017. There was a nintendo switch game that had a "collectors/special" edition here in the US. I bought one but my bro managed to get one elsewhere, so I had an extra item to stare, all new and sealed for months to come. A few months later I put the item on sale on eBay as buy it now /w offer.. and goes to the normal procedure I go with shipping and all. Late 2018, I manage to sell it for a good price for the buyer and a price I'm happy with. I used bubble warp and put it on a cardboard, even adding those big air cushions, to keep it safe. A week or less later, eBay emails me that my "recent purchase through the Global Shipping Program has shipped from the Global Shipping Center" so at that point everything seems to go well. 10 days later it's already out of the US, and the seller gets it eventually. I thought that would be then end of it, but NOPE! Imagine going throughout your day, enjoying with the bit of extra cash, just to get a concerning email from eBay about the seller requesting a return of the item AND a refund. I was FRUSTRATED and angered, and also sad to see how the box was COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND CUT (can't find the pic the dude sent me but it was a nightmare and looked like a kid had packaged it). I thankfully had proof that wasn't what I shipped, and also went to the ebay forum for help, which i found after some research. I replied to the buyer about it, and emailed eBay support. It took around 2 days from just one reply to get to a GSP specialist, and I thankfully kept the sell, with ebay issuing a full refund to the buyer. BUT BOY WAS THIS A WASTE OF TIME! If I didn't act fast enough it would had ended bad. I CAN'T IMAGINE how the buyer must had been, since the item I sold him has gone up in price since then. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME, EBAY GLOBAL SHIPPING SERVICE! (and yes, this was the Kentucky center)
Brandon Torres if they have more facilities instead of just that one which receives the entire bulk, they can go through each package more carefully with a lesser chance of these destruction and the workers there won’t be doing as poorly. I mean come on if you have to handle that amount of load every single day of your life, you are bound to go through everything quickly to get it done and over with. Which explains the reckless slashing open of the boxes. The workers don’t really care anymore.

I purchased a 350 dollar sony fh15r 1985 mini hifi audio system from Columbia (im in the USA) and Columbia customs opened the entire thing up and drilled into the transformer, the capacitors, and other electrical components trying to find drugs! They didnt even bother putting the screws back! 1 year later and I still think about this. I didn't even get my money back from ebay! (refused to get the money back from seller since it wasnt his fault). When I turned it on, it short circuited and died cause they drilled the transformer and literally everything remotely larger than a tiny capacitor. Not even the fuses could save it :(

Oh my, I’m an eBay seller who has used GSP and thankfully my customers haven’t had any issues. But I didn’t even know that these were issues to be had!! None of the other eBay sellers seem to be talking about the damage/missing items/etc, just that the buyers don’t like paying extra shipping. It's all in their terms & agreements we make with them as we purchase or sell something. eBay is famous for the bully they are. The government prioritizes national security and eBay would pull that card to win, since customs have the rights to do it anyway and get away with it.
As a collector myself, this is why I always get pissed with my coworkers when they carelessly dig their knives in and slice all the way across. I slice a small nick at the edge and simply use the force of the lid opening to tear through the rest of the tape. No damage to the products, and no extra time or strength utilized versus completely unsealed lids.
Usually what I do is puncture in at one end from the top, and then lever it so I'm cutting it sideways so I don't cut anything inside since my blade is in line with the flaps of the box
I don't know how it is with your banks, but if I ever receive a damaged good and the company refuses the refund I call my bank and they basically force the refund for me. might piss off eBay but tbh they deserve it with this kind of stuff.

I used to work for Hermes/EVRi in the UK and one of the biggest issues is that when parcels are loaded into trucks at the regional hubs for the main hub they are literally chucked into the trailer piled ontop of each other from back to front, no cages or crates to hold them. which includes eBay sellers shipping through parcel drop off points, its not always the service providers fault because a lot of sellers assume their package will be handled with care when thats not the case. its not like they dont care but the workers are under so much pressure to meet turnaround times that speed wins over care.
I sold something on eBay once, instead of a basic cardboard box, I built one out of plywood and screws. The buyer was so thrilled at how secure the package was. Oh yeah, and the lumber + screws was the same price as buying a cardboard box

I started getting annoyed at ebay for mostly scams. But thats not ebays fault... 2 weeks later I see someone on ebay gets scammed by ebay. Not a good reputation.
Hey Daniel!
Even if the place isn't amazingly perfect, local businesses that at least try to give you a good experience are important.

Same for debit cards if you're lucky with your bank from what I've heard

I'm so glad SOMEONE mentions how HORRIBLE eBAy's Global Shipping program is. I've only had one experience as a seller, but now i try to avoid it. Been following recent, dude and already love ur vids. Can't wait to see more! I'll leave my story here:
My story starts in Dec 2017.
Crazy they still did this for years without even trying to fix this issue
They do that to make sure you didn’t ship drugs
Brandon Torres if they have more facilities instead of just that one which receives the entire bulk, they can go through each package more carefully with a lesser chance of these destruction and the workers there won’t be doing as poorly. I mean come on if you have to handle that amount of load every single day of your life, you are bound to go through everything quickly to get it done and over with. Which explains the reckless slashing open of the boxes. The workers don’t really care anymore.

I have a cousin who moved away not to long ago (He is a big fan of Fnaf so this will come into play later) Now my Cousin finally decided that he will finally buy A Golden/Shadow Freddy plush still with their tags. These 2 Plush are really rare and he spent a good 500 Bucks on them, when the package finally arrived both the plush were missing their tag and the fabric was cut resulting in a giant opening on the side of one of the plush. Ebay agreed to pay the refund them self but they never did. My cousin didn't what the seller for a refund seeing as it was not their fault. This entire story could be finished off with Ebay sucks
as fnaf fan this breaks my heart
as a collector in general this makes me wanna stab someone.
Ebay is a horrible company
I feel that pain, the one time I ordered a plush off eBay (toy Freddy) they cut his eye and slashed his nose, the 2 things I CAN’T fix
This is an evil not even William could accomplish
Dank in July 2020: ''Ah yeah, 1 million, never gonna happen''

"Packages may be opened" Did they mean Packages WILL be opened?
Packages may be empty.
No, Packages will be DESTROYED
What did I start?
Packages will not be taken care of
Packages WILL be DESTROYED
Items contained in the packages may be stolen.
This reminds me of when I paid a dude 20$ extra to pack my graphics card with bubble wrap and some newspaper.
Got a box with a still rolled up roll of bubble wrap, yesterdays neatly folded newspaper and the card rattling around the box along with it.
...I guess he did as I said lol.
lol imagine how confused the seller was "this guy wants me to send him bubble wrap and the newspaper too? Whatever as long as he pays"
I bought an i9-9900k and it was RATTLING AROUND IN THE BOX
@@cydonia9342 I mean that shouldn't happen but its not as bad as a gpu.
When pieces are missing and the seller can confirm they were there when shipped, isn't that like, theft on ebay's part? Like yeah they stole an old crappy music player but that's still stealing as much as it'd be if it were a laptop or a basketball...
I as a seller take pictures of my orders, how I shipped them, packaging and all. now I know it's not really going to matter because what ebay says is something akin to 'we're not sure if those pictures are authentic or taken before the item was tampered/damaged/missing'
@@deadkid2012 I appreciate sellers like you so much even if ebay still puts blame on you.
@@deadkid2012 Get a Polaroid instant camera and do it in the post office and have the postman witness the process and sign the photo.
@@mbirth that's funny. Ive actually considered trying to set something up like that, trying to figure out a way to 'authenticate' a shipment but ultimately ebay/paypal all say the same thing in the end 'we don't know when and where it happened' so you're at fault no matter what.
@@deadkid2012 I mean, if you can document the packaging process and have witnesses that swear everything was fine when you gave it to the post office, it becomes a matter between post office and ebay. The big problem with that is, that by that point you'll have amassed billions of $$$ in lawyer costs. And that's why ebay can get away with this behaviour.
“1 million subs, that would be pretty slamin’”
I buy from Japanese ebay sellers as a game collector and guess what? They use the Japanese post not through any other company. It gets sent through a few other countries before hitting me but it’s never hitting eBay’s international shipping companies. It’s perfect. All my US ebay packages come through the USPS. That makes it great.
Btw the Japanese post office for an SNES game uses a tiny bubble mailer wrapping it as tight as they can. Like the package is just big enough to hold the game so it doesn’t rattle around like crazy in the mailer. It’s just there. If it’s a DS game the person will put it in a plastic DS game protector unless they have the game case and they wrap it extra. It’s perfect!
whenever i buy japanese game consoles and such, they always ship with fedex which is nice since they use the fastest shipping possible for free. i always avoid buying from the us when i can and when i did have to use the gsp. i waited A MONTH for my package.
Somehow my brain translated "arsenic filled wallpaper" to "asbestos toilet paper" and I had to go back and listen again to see if you really said that. Now I'm trying to decide which would be worse.
For the wallpaper,
On one hand, poison
On the other is shit... probably the wallpaper
Asbestos is also toxic
Ebay watching you pack at the end "Man, this guy is good.... we must hire him!"
*Ebay rapidly taking notes*
Just found your channel a day ago, I’m just addicted. A couple years ago I attempted to repair some old iPods, and I sort of got a 4th gen working but I think the drive is dead. Wish I’d seen your channel then haha
Wish: we have the worst ever online buying experience
Ebay: hold my beer
Wish honestly isn't even bad tbh, its just the long ass shipping times and well, you get exactly what you should expect for paying the cheap price
Wish is just the dollar store but you have to wait two months for your trash to arrive
@@aortaplatinum Yeah, pretty much, and like any dollar store, you can actually find some decent things lol
this never gets old haha.
Tbh Wish is only bad because of the bootleg crap they sell. (And the shipping)
Ebay on the other hand... oh boy.
Ebay GSP just tears stuff open to look for illegal shit. I ordered a HIGHLY collectable Sonic 2 Tiger LCD game and they literally BROKE IT IN HALF.
I love the addition of the packing hammer, just to snug everything down.
Sealed iPod: * exists *
eBay: Allow us to introduce ourselves
"We all have dreams... 1 million subs"
Well here we are
I bought a 10GB 1st gen from America after getting sniped on a local listing, now I'm praying to whatever higher power there is that it arrives in decent shape.
Please keep us posted.
id love to hear the outcome of this so keep us updated
It'll be a good while before I can say how it turned out, it arrives on the 25th at least.
Best of luck to you
Global Shipping program or seller sent by himself?
I've always bought from listings the seller shipped himself, almost always Japan with SAL shipping and it all came perfectly. The one that didn't arrive at all was one from China that they said was tracked but lo and behold - was not. At least I did get a refund on that.
