  • Doug Davison walks through the process of converting tile images into a reusable tile pack for Fantasy Grounds Unity. In this example, he is converting the Black Scrolls Medieval Fantasy Castle Tile Pack, which should be in our store shortly.

    First 8 minutes and already learned something. I have been purposely making my lines in the center of the wall afraid the player wouldn't see the wall at all if I put it on the edge. I didn't realize it had a little peak through on it to show the wall texture. Very informative!

    As a heavy user of Fantasy Ground for many years, I really never minded drawing the areas that players can view as needed. Seems like a heck of a lot of work to avoid something that was no problem. I can think of dozens of improvements that I would have preferred over this (like the DM being able to modify the roll of a player!?). Here is to hoping that a good many of those improvements made it in also!

    Does FGU or Will FGU support dynamic sound sources? It's the one thing I've wanted in a VTT and no one seems to have it.

    As a project to help stave off the madness of lockdown, I'm trying to create an image pack that I can use to overlay secret doors, camp fires, boulders, etc. in layers (particularly so I can hide secret doors from the players until they find them) and this method seems to be a way to get my images to be correctly sized when I drop them on as a new layer. Great video explaining everything up to but not including the .xml file structure for the individual images. I'd like to see an example of the complete .xml structure for an image that is 100 pixels square that would fit exactly one 5' map square - I can work out how to scale this for other image dimensions but some explanation of the X.Y coordinates would also be appreciated. Thanks

    Are there any keyboard shortcuts for select, line, rectangle, circle, remove point or delete point?

    This is great! Is that LOS Tool available to the community? Anyone know where I can find it?

      Not yet, but we will probably make it freely available before long. Adding LOS to existing modules can be done by uploading just the XML here: www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?107-Fantasy-Grounds-Unity-Playtest
      Post a message and attach the XML file using the Go Advanced button on the forum post. Zacchaeus will review it, extract it and add it to our patch system for any official modules we already have out there.

    Hi,
    where can i download the FGU XML Tool which you are using?
    I have all the Tiles ready, but I cannot prepare the proper XML files for creating a .mod

    • @FantasyGrounds
      @FantasyGrounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is now built in. You can just right-click on the image layer and choose Export Metadata. This will create the XML file for you and you just want it to be in the same directory as the original graphic within your final module. You can test it in a new campaign by dragging those tiles to a new image and it should automatically load the LOS definitions for you.

    I've been trying several times now, but the mod pack does not show up. Have there been any changes to this?
    I have some awesome looking tiles that I want to use, but I cannot get them into the game as a mod pack.

    • @DougDavison

      They no longer show up under modules. All Asset Packs load automatically under your Assets Window under images.

    • @FantasyGrounds
      @FantasyGrounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug's Comment is correct, to keep the Modules Window clean Art and Map Packs no longer need to be activated, and thus, no longer appear in the Modules Window.
      You can find them in the Asset Browser. (The puzzle Icon right next to the modules window)
      The easiest way to wind the pack you are looking for is to go to Images, and then search for the packs name.
      Hope this helps!

    What happens next? Do you save that as a new individual standalone map, export it in some way.... or do you use that to play as it is?

  • @PureEvil3D
    @PureEvil3D 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just so I'm clear... when you parse the db.xml file, it creates a new xml file in the images folder for every asset you added LOS to?

    Love your work but .... as a fresh Unity user (been using Classic for years) I am ...SO lost. Really hard to find info about how to get this process started. Do I need to buy tilesets? are there some provided? Are there any premade? It's hard with no conceptual context about the logic of this building and what the basics are. Maybe videos I'm having a hard time finding. Either way you do a lot of things in this video and don't really explain why. I was SO excited for this feature in the kickstarter but man.... this looks like it'll take a week or more of work just to do one map. Pretty intimidating out of the gates.
    Watched the first 17 minutes and just kinda filed under the 'that'll be nice but I have a life to live so no interactive maps for my players!' ... too bad. Great feature but at this stage I cannot imagine how long it would be to paint a dungeon this way. I'll circle back later and hope I have more resilience. If I'm missing something I should have watched beforehand, please let me know. Maybe FG youtube can curate the playlists a bit so this stuff is easier to find? Otherwise, feel free to help me find a better starting place.

      Hello J Candace,
      This video is mostly directed at our Indie Artists who want to build a re-sellable tile pack that we list and sell on our storefront. For end-users, the process should be much simpler. Check out this set of instructions and the simplified videos there:
      fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGU/pages/918264/Creating+Maps+with+Tiles
      If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an email to support@fantasygrounds.com or ask on the forums. There are a few tile packs available on the store now and some built-in (shown on early link).

    I purchased the Black Scrolls tile pack. If I want to 'make' a map using these tiles, Is there a step i am missing? Is the pack he is using in this video the the same ones as featured in the store? I was hoping to jump in and start snapping tiles together but for some reason I need a base map to start.

    Will pre-made LOS points be available? Like circles, rectangles that I can then scale to make map LOS point creation quicker?

      You can make squares, rectangles and circles at any scale. Just hold Shift when drawing them to keep it the same for width and height.

    Hey. I'm trying to follow along but I'm having trouble where you export the information into a module. I can't find the module folder where I can go in and set the definitions. All I can find is the module folder with the .mod files. Am I missing something?

    • @FantasyGrounds
      @FantasyGrounds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a mod file that you have created, you can unzip this into a folder. It is just a zip file that is renamed. When you are finished, you can zip it back up.

    Hello, I use FG for remote players and local players combined and being a DM with very little spare time I use FG to try and minimise my prep time, this seems an immense amount of work to get LoS into a game, I’ve seen the vid and it is awesome, but if it takes this much work to achieve, I’m just gonna tell my player your target is out of LoS. I appreciate there are DMs that love this and have loads of time (I’m jealous) but will this be implemented into official module releases?

    • @DougDavison
      @DougDavison 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrT33CEE this is mainly for content creators to prep packs for sale on our store. Most users will be able to simply use the tiles without assigning any LOS definitions.

      @@MeepChangeling this is an older video. Now you just add the LOS to your image and then you right-click on the image layer and choose Extract Metadata. It creates the XML file for you. We have also improved many of the LOS features to make it faster and easier as well. For instance, doors and windows now have a default setting that trims underlying walls. That means you can draw out basic rectangles for all your walls first and then pop windows and doors over top where you need them.

      @@FantasyGrounds I'm on a Mac, so cannot use that tool. I have a whole bunch of old tile purchases (e-Adventure) that I'd like to use with FG and add LoS. As it happens, I am also a web developer and understand XML, XPath well enough to put a quick script together that would do the same as your extract tool. It would speed things up a little for me if there was a reference to which XML sections I should copy, which attribute(s) reference the file name etc . . . do you have anything like that? I can probably figure it out if not . . .
