      .exe not found. Here, I'll give it manually. Okay, there's the launcher up. So, now to launch the actual application. .exe not found. I'll just revert to the last version someone with this problem confirms will run. Hey, it found the launcher executable! Now to launch the applica.. .exe not found. ... Hey, look how much less Fantasy Grounds classic costs!

      @@DougDavison I thought so too, but resolved to give it some time and try again. I'm new to FG, and starting with classic gives me some time to get used to it. The only reason I mention it here is that it seems the conversion to Unity creates occasional issues, and that makes me curious about development. I hope they've stuck with one version of Unity without updating!

    Matt Colville did a video on this and I'm now really excited to use it! Small and mundane, but I loved the feature where you can put down writing in a language and only players who have that language can read it without you having to say or do anything. Weird, but it's the small things!

      You mean like support for a class feature like Druid shapeshift, that's been in 5E since day one? Yeah, I know what you mean.
      If they were rewriting the engine from scratch, there was no reason not to include support for this kind of game mechanic. "Polymorph" and "Shapeshift" are fairly common types of game mechanics that should have been supported by the engine for all rulesets, especially when said engine was literally being rewritten from scratch.

      Google is your friend, and you can create whatever you want. But seriously, if there’s some esoteric bit that isn’t functioning the way you want, just google it and someone has created the solution 99% of the time. No other service has any of this functionality, so there’s that to consider. You pay nearly double for modules on Roll20. With Foundry you have to import them from DnD Beyond and there ain’t no automation in there. I get your point though. It would be nice if they updated them and added more in.

    Unless I missed it I don't understand why you can't rename bags and move tokens, maps and portraits between them without having to go into windows folders. Also why does each folder need to be campaign specific? I should be able to make a bag full of tree tokens and label it "trees" for use in every campaign. Having videos on how to make mods using text editors to orginize my assets just doesn't cut it. There's some nice improvements in unity but it fails on some pretty basic levels.

    • @FantasyGrounds

    Is there any reason you guys don't have a more streamline "character maker"? You guys are leading, now especially in almost everything yet making a char for new people is still staggering. Between unlocking all the books for them and dragging dozens of things over, making sure the roll system is right.

    • @FantasyGrounds
      @FantasyGrounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean Tokens? "Portraits" in Fantasy Grounds are for Player Characters only and are different from tokens.
      You can add tokens onto an NPC by finding one in your asset browser, and dragging it onto the Token spot of the NPC Sheet (The NPC does need to be unlocked, so ones from Official Content cannot be changes, since they are Read Only, To change Read Only tokens drag the NPC into the Combat Tracker, and you can replace the token that way)
      If you want to add an Image into an NPC you can go to the Info tab of the NPC, Unlock it (as long as it is not read only) and you can drag and drop an image in there so you can easily pull it up to show it to players.

    @Vizeroy9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As I said on an older video: having to create a campaign to make maps is a strange hurdle.
    Keeping one campaign just for maps is a crutch rather than a solution.
    Is there a reason why you can't just add a "map editor" button in the main menu?

    • @orochifuror7148
      @orochifuror7148 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fairly sure he's said in another video that every campaign is it's own folder, so having a map making campaign is automatically filing your projects away for you and they like that for organization. You can then just put them in other folders if you want to, no real need to put hours of coding a new feature when you can just open two folders and move things around in seconds.

    • @Vizeroy9
      @Vizeroy9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@orochifuror7148 it's a classic conflict between creators of a program and people who use it.
      The fact they like it this way doesn't mean it's a way, the actual users like it and use it. That's the main reason for many software projects fail and users find workarounds or use other software.
      There is not a single reason for the map editor not to save to a default folder when you start it from the main menu.
      There are folders for other assets like tokens, portraits etc...
      Why not use that for maps as well?
      I backed the kickstarter campaign, because the old FG was so outdated, it was painful.
      Edit:
      I will continue to use different map makers, because I want to use a map maker, not hassle with creating a campaign / keeping a default campaign, just because they like to treat this like a programming environment with projects.
      Edit2:
      Using the map editor on its own would also let me decide where to save the maps, or let me have a central map folder instead of rummaging through campaign folders.

    • @orochifuror7148
      @orochifuror7148 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Vizeroy9 Well the map making is just an additional thing, not the core of the program by any means. If you want something robust then use a program that focuses on that. FGU is for running campaigns and it lets to make and modify assets for the campaign your running. I think what you want is a digital DM's tool box, maybe one of the projects starting up will fulfill that role.
      Spending time trying to change something that from the sounds of it is very much not how they have designed their system from the ground up would be a waste of resources when they have loads of other things to fix right now.

    • @Vizeroy9
      @Vizeroy9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@orochifuror7148 FGU expanded and revamped their map making tool big time - even including line of sight integration and lighting.
      Map making for encounters is one of the new core features.
      The old tool was unuseable...
      The new one is really good - if you don't put unnecessary limitations to it.
      Edit:
      To be clear about it: The revamped map tool was one of the reasons why I backed the Kickstarter campaign and have it on ultimate license.
      Sadly, I didn't have time for the Alpha and now have to live with the results.
      I don't have to like them, though

      Okay, thanks.
      One of the things that occurred to me, seeing 'cloud' as a model, was that you might be delivering content centrally that a given license holder owns and allows their players to see.
      So, for instance with FG Classic, if I own the Pathfinder Ultimate Equipment document as a Smiteworks-purchased product, and I allow my players to see it, they get that content directly from me.
      With a cloud model of gameplay, I could see you providing that download to my players centrally, possibly speeding up the players' download of the material.

If you don't already have it dragged to your Images & Maps window, then you are trying to share an Asset and not a campaign image. Assets are not part of your campaign until you add it to your campaign by dragging it to the appropriate window.

    To Fantasy Grounds,
    This perspective is coming from a customer who bought the ultimate license for both classic and unity, who has also been playing less than a year. I love FG, and I say this not to boss you around (Because I not your boss) but to give you a club of what customers see, down below you can see a list of which this program (Classic version) has,
    -One time pay
    -Better connection to servers (When it works, I'll get to that more later)
    -Fantastic features such as Real class stat block, dice roll animation, monster NPC stat blocks and so MUCH more than any other d&d system has
    This is by far the best D&D system anyone will ever get, though the classic is far from perfect, here is what the Unity version improved on,
    -Connection rout, this is the best advancement unity brought, in the classic, it was a PAIN to get into any game and in fact to even start one I had to spend DOZENS OF HOURS trying to figure out what went wrong with my game until I found it, and guess what, it was just a flick of a button... That's it... DHJBSFUDSHJKABNJDKNB WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. But now it has improved way more and now I can join other people's games with having to wait a long time on forums or even Discord, it's all there!
    -And this one is a deal-breaker, now it has a feature called "Line of Sight" which is what Roll20 had but now FG too and it's a little better then Roll20 I'll tell you that much. Just look it up.
    But for this next part, please take this from someone who LOVES this program to death, again not everything is perfect and I want this team of skilled developers to succeed and improve FG more than ever but, and this is a big but, Hardly many customers know or even heard that UNITY IS OUT... Not to mention, when I heard of FG first, I learned about Roll20 first, that's a big problem as that gives many customers who are simply too lazy to do their research and study "which program is superior to another" leading them to just pick the first thing they hear and I for one was about to pick Roll20, for if it were not the monthly subscription. Please I beg you to advertise better.
    Look, most indie games, stories, heck even politicians get left behind or forgotten easily, why? Because either the product isn't good enough or just no one knew it existed in the first place, UPDATE YOUR STORE PAGE, I barely even knew Unity was out and by the time I did I was helping a new friend join my game... A WEEK after the version came out... Take a look at both Coca Cola's website and Pepsi's website, see the difference, now look at yours, I can see what new brands they have in the front of the PAGE, while I had to find where Unity was... You need to tell the difference between Classic and Unity or be force to deal with customers who had found out they bought the wrong version of the program and a discount won't calm them down. Note that this was not a problem for me but I'm sure some people out there will confuse them both for something else.
    Like I said, you need to advertise better, I know you may not too good at this but with the new program and a Lot of servers up I think you can manage to hire a small team of skilled marketers to go out and sell your product worldwide, there are other ways to get your word out there and that would be GIVE your Unity version to reviewers such as "Angry Joe" he would LOVE something like this and might give you a shoutout and even review this copy for FREE, "Matthew Colville" a D&D master who has done a review but you need to give him the Unity version, not the classic, that will cripple your new moment, "How to be a Great Game Master", "Matthew Mercer", "JoCat", "WASD20" are all great celebrities in the d&d community just pick one, any. True story, a pizza place was once a small shop when one day a celebrity came by and tasted their pizza, they said it was great and Twitted that this pizza place was fantastic and everyone should try them out! A few months later that same shop turned into a nationwide corporation, just something to think about, Subnatica, was an early access game, now their on their second game ready with new and innovative ideas with a few YEARS. You had more than enough time.
    Once more, Roll20 and any other D&D systems are GARAGE compared to your Unity version, yes it's a beta but so was Subnatica and they still sold the beta at a good cost, and look at them now, it's time to take on the competition and say that Fantasy Grounds is cheaper long time, has real features, and much more (Please go on a list them because people love that sort of thing, also with screenshots too, that helps). Roll20 has NOTHING to offer now, yet they still bring in loads of cash because of "dynamic light", now you have it, TAKE THAT TO THE PUBLIC AND YOUR FRONT PAGE, declare war and say that you are indeed much better than any other platform for d&d and you will see people will come, you just got to show it in a list.
    One more thing and this got me super mad today-
    Your customers or would be ones might be new, just like me, don't ask "If you got hit for 7 damage and you drank a potion of healing, how much HP would you have" WHILE TRYING TO RECOVER MY ACCOUNT PASSWORD!?!? Your customers are NOT CHILDREN, respect them and inform them so that they may say to other potential customers "Wow, this is great, and I love how they treated me as though I were a valued Adult customer" image that next time you force some dumb question only a few know of.

      Calab Canda , wow, you totally misunderstood. The "you took damage" question is a security feature. It's like the "check this box if you aren't a robot" things you see on many sites. It's to make it harder for the automated hacking bots to steal a password. And the question isn't something that some people don't know like you describe. It's literally a simple math problem.

      The question is "If you have 23 hit points and you take 6 damage, how many HP do you have left?" Anyone can do 23-6=17. I can't believe you got offended by that. It's simpler than the "check all the boxes that contain a crosswalk" thing you get on other sites.

      We haven't launched Fantasy Grounds Unity on Steam yet. Once we do, Steam owners will be able to buy it at a 20% discount for Standard and 40% discount for Ultimate. In addition, we plan to have a 10% off discount for the first week of launch.

      You can always contact support@fantasygrounds.com for help. The big thing is to make sure that you have a Fantasy Grounds key for FG and a Fantasy Grounds Unity key for the Unity version. The keys are not compatible with one another.
      Also, copy and paste in the license key because 0's and O's look very similar.

      Yes, but you get back 10 fold what you put into learning it. I didn’t feel that learning the program was really all that difficult, for what it offers. Once you learn the system, look into some qol extensions. The payoff is that once you have learned how to ru the program, it is objectively the most robust vtt on the market. People rant and rave about Foudnry and whatnot, but after mastering FG both Foundry and a Roll 20 are just non starters for me. I’d basically just be sacrificing functionality for what? Ease of use? Everything’s easy to use once you know how to use it. They are just quicker to learn, because they have less functionality.

      Mmm. Do you? This is the *second* iteration of this product and I still have to do some serious hunting for the right 3rd party instructions to plug in for my barbarian player to be able to rage. Which is a pretty core ability for a barbarian, most people would say.
