- Here is the video a lot of people have been asking for - how I set up a BLED-o process. Details are here: www.kaptainmyk... www.kaptainmyk... My other videos: • DIY tools for Comic Bo... • How I built my Blue LE... • What light I use for c...
RESULT: • REPORTING BACK! Modern...
This video is a great help to understanding some of the finer points BLED-o that I was asking about. I have tried and played with the amount of time under a single lamp as I have not purchased a second light as of yet..40 years of collecting on the cheap has given me 400 approximate slabs and about 10 000 silver gold and bronze age comics to start cleaning and pressing. Not all of course. Watching your videos have greatly helped me understand in a more organized fashion of how I will be approaching my collection to maximize its possible return to have more to spend on completing the runs I love the most..Thank you very much.
Welcome - thanks for watching
Great video... I now have a much more clear idea of BLED-o. Thank you!
Welcome
Great explanation 👍👍. Thanks for info.
Welcome
Fantastic
Interesting to see this. I'm still new to C&P's and this technique is something I have interest in as well, especially for light foxing/tanning on books. I've tried my hand at dry cleaning and I do need to buy myself a heat press and soon! I am looking for any video that shows removal tips for old, dry and browning scotch tape residue. Feel free to refer me to one. Thanks for posting.
I don’t have any tricks for brown tape residue. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the great info!
Glad it was helpful!
In the whitening book they put paper and a comic bag behind the cover. Doesn't look like you do that. Have you had any trouble NOT doing that? Thanks for the help and keep up the amazing work! Your videos have been EXTREMELY helpful!
Thanks for watching. I will put a sheet of paper under the cover on older books but not moderns. I don’t use the bag and board
Thanks Joe, thats great. When you are doing the 2nd, 3rd, 4th treatment the comic isnt flat anymore. Do you do the same thing with the sheet, just lay it on top of the now more crincled cover and flatten it with your hand?
Yup - unless it’s really bad and then it needs a press
Do you have to do the overlay ? Ive seen ppl swab the cover with the peroxide solution and then place in the lights with good results ? Awesome work as always
I think any wiping/swabbing is a bad idea. But try em both and you do you
@TopComicsPressing yeah, I kind of agree . What determines if you do just the BLED treatment vs a heat overlay press? And what's more effective? You seem to get stellar results doing this . Thanks !
I should make a video on that. In general the bled is more mild
Thank you very much for these videos sir. Regarding the 90 min + duration. My overlay is dried out and laying loosely on top of the book after 50 mins or less. I’m resetting with a new overlay at hour intervals for the opposite side. Rotating and 3 treatments each side is 6 hrs. Would there be any reason to extend the treatment past the overlay dry out time? Thanks again.
You get some extra light exposure and less risk of over hydrating that one time. But your prob ok w your approach
😎
There may be an obvious answer but what is the water mist? Distilled and peroxide? I enjoyed thr video. Thanks
I use 3% peroxide right out of the store brand bottle on this one. I occasionally cut to 1.5% by mixing 50/50
W water
Long time collector but new to cleaning/restoring. Is there a difference between cleaning and whitening or bleaching? Would this process be considered cleaning or restoring? I know some collectors like one but not the other.
That is a complex question. This video attempts to answer also a case study w a cap and Thor side by side I did: COVER CLEANED!!!! Why? Is this restoration? A clear discussion on why CGC might flag some comics

@@TopComicsPressing Cool Thank you! I will take a look.
The final showing of the book was that after just 1 treatment or after you had run 3-4 treatments on it to get that white look from the book?
Also when I read the book you mentioned. It states to only do 4 treatments at most on any single page of a book. In your experience is this true or have you tried to do more that 4 on a cover/page that was being problematic with stains?
After multiple treatments
@@TopComicsPressingawesome, it came out really well
When you do multiple bled, do you use the same paper and respray or do you use a new piece everytime?
Can reuse a few times - 3-4
Hi. What wattage bulbs are you using?

Do you rehydrate your books after the BLED treatment before pressing?
Yes
How do you do the inside of the cover?
