  • In this video, I walk you through how to assemble and sew the Ember Crossbody Bag by Hold It Right There Patterns, the January 2024 Bag of the Month Club Pattern, and share some tips and tricks along the way.
This video is filmed like a sew along. If you don't want to watch the part where I sew or am doing other things, you can always fast forward or adjust the speed of the video, so it is faster. However, there are times I give tips and tricks while sewing. I figured filling in some of those moments with some helpful information, makes it a bit more interesting to watch.
Also to note, I do not give any measurements, show pattern pieces or use any measuring tools on camera, in any tutorials I film. This is for the protection of the pattern/designer and also because I often film tutorials during testing and measurements or other things can change. So, to ensure the tutorials are accurate and match with the pattern, I don't give this information. You will need to have your pattern open on another device, printed or on your computer, to follow along with each step and be able to refer to measurements or seam allowances given. If you have the video open on your computer and want to also have the pattern PDF open on your computer, you can minimize this TH-cam video and move it to a corner on your screen, it'll be smaller but, you can still see it and have the pattern open as well.
The machine I sewed this bag on is a Juki TL-2200 QVP Mini and I used Schmetz Microtex 90-14 needle. I used canvas for the exterior and quilting cotton lining. For threads I used Gutermann All Purpose Thread. You'll want to use the needle, materials and threads that work best for your machine.
For more details on the products I used and where to purchase them, see further below in this description. I make no money and don't gain anything from mentioning these companies and their products. I want to give this information to help you source the supplies I use, if you like them and/or want to use them.
As I mentioned in the video, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments section below. You can also reach out to the designer, Suzanna, through the email. If you need a quick response, emailing Janelle is the best way to get a quick response, because I don't always get notifications and may miss them for a few days.
I'm looking forward to seeing all your Ember Crossbody Bags made and posted on social media!

I thought she wasn't going to join, then she surprised me. She's usually always wanting to be in the video. 🤣

Hi Michelle. Glad you did this one. I am in the BOM club too. Your bag is beautiful. Maybe I will sew it up this week. Thanks.

I purchased this canvas from Sew HungryHippie. I know Emmaline Bags also has some nice canvases too. 😊

Great tutorial! How do you keep your needle from sticking in the double sided tape on the base panel and zipper panels?

Thank you very much! I never have an issue with the dst and my needle, not sure why, lol. I do use Schmetz Microtex needles, not sure if that makes a difference. I also try to keep the dst out of the seams where I'll be sewing, when I can. 😊

@@mgrahamsews thank you!! I have zero issues with dst on my little brother HD machine. But as soon as I started using my straight stitch quilter for bags, it sticks and skips immediately. I'm also using the same microtex needles in both machines! Keeping dst out of where I'm sewing is the best I can do, but sometimes my brain doesn't bend that way (like using in vinyl straps)
Anyway, thank you for the reply!! The bag is gorgeous 😍

You're very welcome! 😊 There is a product you can use on your needle, I get it from Wawak. www.wawak.com/sewing/sewing-accessories/see-more-sewing-accessories/wawak-thread-lubricant-2-oz/#sku=msc201
