LOTS of tricky timing here. You nailed it perfectly! But you didn't spill ALL the secrets in the transcription, lots of ghost notes and odd pauses that only slowing your performance down fully reveals, great job, thank you!

I've been trying to learn this song for a long time. Sure, I can "play along", but I couldn't even figure out what he was actually doing a lot ot the time. This really cleared some things up. Still might be another year before I get it down tho. lol

Phil Phil Phil... and great transcription. So, the best part of Phil's line is the 'old style' Tuba line mixed with Phil's classic transition walk and how it works so well with the very pretty C and and G descending progression on the guitars... just magic... This is about as fast as this song gets with many many other versions slower to way slower... can get down to 65 bpm.. Great playing and transcribing Jason, thanks for putting it out in the ether.
Lesh oozed creativity, he and Jerry were definitely the brains of the band. One of my favorite bassists for sure. Great cover.

Yeah he does, and did for the majority of his dead career, it’s part of how he gets his tone, that and flatwound strings
Derek Levesque yeah man, it’s amazing what he does works considering it’s so anti-regular-bass-player but he’s excellent
I’m certain he does. Not only has he said it, but there’s tons of live vids that clearly show him using a pick.
@@jimjarnagin5344 He played that EB0 fingerstyle quite a bit in 70-71, documented on plenty of videos, usually on slower tempo songs
