Hi Jason,, I just purchased the transcription to "St Stephens" a few days ago. Printed but accidentally didn't save the .pdf Is there a way to re-download the .pdf file? Thanks and great work!!!
That is great, I didn't knew that Phil Lesh has that "I'm a lead guitarist but I play bass because bass is a lot better" vibe. Moreover, in what strings do you use? It sounds awesome!
Phil Lesh is possibly the most important member of the Dead in terms of creating a unique sound. At the very least, he's right up there with Jerry #1 and 2
Jason: Thanks for all these great tabs you’ve shared! I’m not sure where you’re most likely to see requests, but I’ve been really curious about how to play “Crazy Fingers” and wondered if that’s something you might add to the queue of tabs you share. It’s one of the tunes that really foregrounds Phil’s contrapuntal engagement with Jerry’s guitar line. And it seems in some places Phil’s line is leading Jerry’s. . . . I bought and downloaded this St. Stephen tab a few years ago and am hugely in your debt for transcribing it! St. Stephen and The Other One were the tunes that sold me on the Dead in high school, so it was fun to fumble my way through this tune in a paint by numbers sort of way when I’d been playing bass for about a year-and to hear beloved sounds coming from my bass. Since then, I’ve loved noodling around on a Guild Starfire II-especially when searching for the sound of that woody lilting bass intro to the Europe 72-era Cumberland Blues. My fingers still aren’t nimble enough to keep pace with that one, though. . . . Typically, at least once every two weeks, I practice a few Phil bass lines (Box, Jack Straw, this, and less capably, Brown-Eyed Women). With his passing last week, I was reminded of how I’ve been wanting to learn “Crazy Fingers.” For that matter, if you or other folks know of an existing bass tab for that, I’ll chase it down, but so far, my internet searches have come up empty. Thanks for considering this!
Hey man what strings do u have on that? Im a pick player and i have pbasses w flats. I know the tension can be troublesome. Im lookin at the starfire but wanna put flats on it. Lookin for options man any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Cool! Now do the version from ‘Live Dead’…quite possibly the *greatest single version* (find one better I dare you) of St. Stephen. Has a lot Phil bombs and oozes groove and soul.
Everything is great, but the song on the background is too loud, so sometimes it was difficult to hear the bass rhythm, especially in the second part, where you start playing quickly.
Thank you Jason, you have made me a better Phil. You have an amazing ear.
Super Fye Jason!!!! Been searching for Phil tabs for EVER. You should do more PHIL, MORE PHIL!!!!
We need a Phil Lesh channel; he has such a unique approach to the instrument with so many great lines. And they can be very hard to transcribe
Yee Haaaw! Atta boy Jason! Ahhh... the melodic syncopations(and chords aplenty!)of my bass hero Phil Lesh. Excellent, excellent job!
BRAVO!!!
You make this look effortless. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.
Jason - this is amazing...your sound is excellent! This is a great challenge and I'm gonna try to take it on thanks to you!

You are pretty much the only one tabbing dead songs (well) for the bass! Thank you!🙌
Ahh, some good ol' Grateful Dead. I like it!
Nice. Those mudbucker pickups are 🔥
great job🎉
Cool.. What would be really cool would be Scarlet Begonias.. the 5/8/77 version at Cornell, Ithica Ny..

That’s usually the deal when the bass player isn’t originally a bassist
Early Dead, Phil probably had some flat wounds and a graphite infused pick. This bass has something similar.
Dude! Thank you! I've bought a couple of your transcripts now! They are accurate, and I appreciate that sooo much!
Bravo!! Great job!!
Awesome, love the album version!
awesome job!!
Excellent work, boss!

Excellent job. Would you ever be able to do their version from live/dead? I personally feel like that’s their best one
Like to see Terrapin Station
Yes! Perfect, thanks!
@Grateful Varmints thanks, I can play like Jason until the damn alarm clock wakes me up.
Nice job. Lovin the bass on this one!
Nailed it brother👊
I never thought anyone could pull off a bass cover of the studio version of St. Stephen. Until now. Outstanding job. Are you using Pyramid strings?
He uses fender flats
Hell yeah dude
Hey man what strings do u have on that? Im a pick player and i have pbasses w flats. I know the tension can be troublesome. Im lookin at the starfire but wanna put flats on it. Lookin for options man any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Phil really had that thang
Looks like one of the most difficult pieces of music I have ever seen
Dynamite!
Dude,....nailed it to a T...great ...I mean.....worthy of The Phil Zone....
Great! But where is Echoes by Pink Floyd (Pompeii)?? 😁😁
Let's see Know You Rider from the Europe album especially the second solo
and Terrapin Station
what bass is that?
I believe that is a Guild Starfire II.
Rip Phil😢

Ahh Phil. Ever restful and meager with his notes. /sarcasam

Please play 'Led Zeppelin - Bring it on home'
What bass
Guild Starfire
