Option 3 for removing the bushing. Place a bolt through the bushing from the inside. This bolt should be as long as will fit. Place a socket just bigger than the bushing on the outside with a washer and a nut and tighten until the bushing moves. Use lube. Change the bolt and or socket as you run out of distance. Works good. No extra cost.
I just got my repair kit in the mail and for anyone attempting to do this repair-make sure the flap disc is not too thick, mine was and would make it bind in the closed position, luckily I noticed this before getting too far and ordered a new one. Ill keep everyone posted on how it turns out.

After having the timing chain replaced, I still have a P0299 code. Mechanic says replace the turbo, WHAT! I wish I had half the gumption (and tools) that you do when approaching a problem. I am checking with a local European performance shop to see if they would preform your technique. I don't have an extra $4,500 right now given the current conditions. Thank you again Andrew. So what got me turned onto this video was by pure accident. I was actually looking into a conversion deal. They sell a kit to go from internal waste Guage to external waste Guage This video has left my mind and marbles spinning.... I feel like this would be ideal to do. Just a total pain in the ass to do while on your back in the drive way. Ford calls for 21 hrs labor... and that's with all of there fancy schmancy tools, lifts etc... What route did you end up doing? My rattle is getting bad, and I can't get over 70, or use cruise control. Shit I can't evan pass a car on the interstate...lol I'm so hoping you did this successfully or went a different route.... What are the common causes of the 30FF code? My 2007 335i has this intermittently... some days it runs hard 100% and other days it will cut power and throw the engine light with reduced power. Since it is intermittent, I believe it's not likely a boost leak. A boost leak would cause poor running condition all of the time. What do you think?
BIMMER ZEIT fact is, if you’re getting 30FF faults, you have worn turbos. They’re in the beginning stages of failing. As you drive it more it will become more common. Doesn’t hurt anything keep driving it while you figure out what to do.

Does anyone know what size drill bit you need? I want to buy a champion XL5 twist drill but I don't know what size. You can use a socket that slides over the bushing and an appropriate nut and bolt to make a puller for the bushing.
Fact is, the exact size of the twist drill doesn’t matter much. You won’t be able to align your drill perfectly with the pin, so you need to drill oversize. Regarding the nut and bolt, actually there’s very little room against the inside wall so whatever “nut” you use needs to be really low profile. If your diameter is too large you won’t be able to fit it out the bore.

Wouldn’t exhaust gases always escape between the bushing and the actuator flap shaft? They are both steel hence where is the seal? I have a small leak on my turbo where the shaft enters the bushing and trying to work out if this will fix it.

Why buy a slide hammer ? why not use a large diameter all thread and use a large impact 1/2 drive deepwell socket and simply use wrenches and nuts to screw it out ? less then $80 and the pulling force is 20 times plus more it will pull out smoothly with no effort ?
Just be more careful getting the busing inn. If your using a hammer like he does, don't start bashing it like that. As you can see it starts out crooked, not good. Start of by tapping it inn gently to make sure you get it square from the get go. You can start using more force as it gets further down. To even make it easier. Heat up the steel around the hole while the bushing sits in the freezer. It will slide in easy if the bore/hole is nice and clean.

Put the bushing in the freezer for a while. If you really want, put turbo in oven too. Bush will slide right in

Magnetize the flapper to have better seal? Add a wave washer (by the kit provider) to stop it from rattling 100K mile later?

Is it possible with arc welding? I'd like to use a stainless steel welding rod for an arc welding machine.

CoolKD2005 Very true. Since there was a chance of misalignment, I should have used smaller taps until certain it’s going in perfectly straight!
