I love every element of this song..heard it first on Later with Jools Holland and it gave me goosebumps and it still resonates every time I need to hear it.
i wanna make the babies for the bassist. mad respect on the rather difficult rickenbacker fret board. not a small task for a relatively small person. keeping the beat like she's in the raincoats or the slits covering the glove. oh comparisons are fraught with inevitable subjectivity.. i will simply state that i am well impressed.
intro sound like some old 90s afi nothing wrong wit that these chix are makin it happen specially since mika miko don't make any music anymore keepin the west coast ahead wit these dreamy drowsy melodies xoxox JENNY
I just discovered them and the only thing I don't like is a lot of songs sound very similar. The songs kind of bleed into each other to where to concert is like one big song. But yes, they are a great band.
they've got aspects of the stone roses which i think makes them very interesting. them and savages are the hope music needs in the age of smiley virus.
+Kel B All intellectual music sounds the same to people who are dumbed down, kind of like how shitty modern pop hits all sound the same to more musically-inclined people.
this shit has all been done. cite any goth band of the 80's and this shit has already been done. what's sad is that Souixsee and the Cocteau twins never defined this sound, which they rightfully own. the hipsters nowadays have no idea about culture in the early 90's, which makes me deem bands such as this as posers
If Siouxsie (correct spelling) and the Cocteau Twins didn't define this sound, then why do you bring them up? You could also throw The Cure in there too for good measure. Listen further and you might hear a Jah Wobble influence in Jenny's bass playing and even detect a James Hetfield influence in Emily Kokal's guitar sound. Some of us who were around in the 80s and 90s, have listened to a hell of a lot of music from many different genres and can still appreciate Warpaint for what they are.
I don't think any musician would have the gall to say that they "rightfully own" a particular sound. Every musician is influenced by the music they listen to and admire, and those influences come out in whatever they produce. Furthermore, having such an influence on a fellow musician that their art reflects yours in someway, is easily one of the biggest compliments you can receive. I do agree that there are alot of poser fans out there who latch on to what's popular and think that it's wholly original, but I think the musicians don't deserve any scrutiny unless they're blatantly plagarizing another musician with no originality. Warpaint is definitley not one of those bands.
5:50 Stella is awesome! That funky crazy rhythm is so dope!
Their live performances are just... the BEST!
There's a very pleasant Bjork vibe to her singing in this song:)
The best eight minutes of all YT.
Agreed
still is
I like Emily very much) Her rhythm guitar parts in all songs are so awesome!
That Rickenbacker is a lot of bass for anyone to handle.. the scale is huge. Shes makin' it growl; impressed.
Scale on a Rickenbacker bass is .75" shorter than standard.
LOVE that they keep developing this outro. Stella's new groove has such a nice pop.

They aren't bad, but I've noticed many of their songs sound the same.

All music has been done already...don't be idiot dude...Mozart has done everything. :)

well this is a rather sad comment to read... music is perpetually evolving... don't get caught in your own subjectivity :)
You got a handful of articulated responses here ...Hopefully you're not still watching warpaint while frustrated :P
bad music
This comment has been of great use to me.
