Yeah very hard band to present well in a live recording. Almost sounds as good as their studio recordings.
This is watching stars align. These gals should be so proud of what they have become. I can't imagine defining music without Warpaint as part of it.

Most bands sometimes have a stand out member in some live performances and the comments on youtube are full of "*enter name* is incredible!"...
But seriously... watch this video 4 times and focus on each of the band members individually and you start to get a rough idea of just how incredible warpaint are as musicians and performers.

TheAgentAssassin I think that remains to be seen. Standards have changed since the bands you mentioned were around. The world will react differently to today's artists and the only way to tell whether they will withstand the test of time is to give them time itself. I'm not saying warpaint can't be better than old bands that have been written in history, merely that warpaint aren't history and so it's difficult to declare them as equals to many others.

Check out the NPR live at the 9:30 Club version recorded this past October. It's not on TH-cam but Google it and skip in the video about 40 minutes. They've dropped the cool intro, but it's sounding more like the old versions again. I was at that show, and beetles was transcendent! Honestly, watch the entire thing. It's a full show, about 90 minutes but it's so good. Especially the last hour!

I love this song for many reasons, one of them is that is one of few songs of Warpaint where Emily can show that she is not just great singer, but also guitarist.

I really love Warpaint and I admire their work. This girls are amazing! The holy chemical bound of the musical melodies are inside and around of us, all we need to do is opening up the channels and let the flow going.

I'll be honest i don't like this type of music, but warpaint has really grown on me, they are true musicians, the way they move, the way the sing, its phenomenal. Really enjoying listening to them.

Stella is the secret sauce. Whoever persuaded her to give up her drums for electronics on recent albums has committed a crime against music.
It's probably the discretion of whoever is writing the songs that use them. This band has a duality with trying experiments on studio records that wouldn't be practical with the four of them playing together, and then forming an alternate "live" arrangement based around their stage setup. Having all acoustic drumkits on the albums would be a limitation on certain kinds of things they've been doing all the way back to the first album. It's not a big deal to me, there are usually nice soundboard recordings of the important stuff after they have time to tour the new music.

Since you mentioned the guitar models, I think Stella's drums are probably a backline kit for this performance/session. She usually uses Istanbul cymbals, and many videos on YT show her using vintage Premier and Pearl drums and a '70's or 80's Ludwig Acrolite snare. Not sure if she's officially endorsing or using a certain brand these days. She's one of my favorite drummers of today. Lots of fresh stuff in her playing.
The electrical tape on the crash cymbal was a nice touch.
