I think some people see "fans" and read "fanboys", while Disney should actually read "clients". Godamn, I am not a Star Wars fan. I don't go to Comic Cons dressed as a stormtrooper. I didn't watch any of the movies more than twice, at most. Yet I was really pissed off about TLJ and what they did to Luke. It's not a matter of hating Disney, being leftist or conservative, and all that crap. It's about making a good movie, make it consistent with its prequels, and respecting your clients.
I personally would love to see Mark direct a Star Wars film. Specifically one with Luke's character. Like a movie about him training the new Jedi Order, dealing with the remnants of the Empire, etc. He would do a fantastic job as a director, because he understands how his character and the world of the character should be portrayed.
The fact they didn't have a single scene with Carrie, Mark, Harrison, and Chewie all together again in the falcon is such an astonishingly egregious missed opportunity.
Dave Richardson Did you suddenly forget how long it has been since they have been together? Let alone how many people would’ve love to see it on the big screen in their lifetime?
Honestly, Mark Hamill should have directed that movie. edit: I know Mark is an actor, I just made the comment because he reflected the passion of a true fan. Everyone saying it should have been Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, I 100% agree after seeing Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. Definitely recommend those to star wars fans.
Mark Hamill deserves to direct a movie, trilogy, tv show, or fucking anything Star Wars. He respects the saga and he knows what the fans want. In a way I think he’s a big fan as well and he just wants to see it done right.
The only thing Rian cared about was “subverting the audience’s expectations.” The only thing the audience expected was a good Star Wars film. Congratulations, Rian.
"I read in the script, forget the past, kill it if you have to. And you're doing a pretty good job!" Jesus Hamill, I came here for a roast, I didn't expect you to burn Rian Johnson off the face of the earth.
I think that's a good rule overall for art - don't create what sells, create what's good. Problem is, Ryan didn't go with "good". He stuck to "the opposite of what they want".
@@mrknarf4438 Yeah that's right. The problem wasn't artistic freedom. It was that he knew it would piss people off, and he went for it anyway. There could have been 100 different routes to take and he chose the one that would get controversy
Yep...It's one thing to move on from the "Old Guard", but it is another thing entirely to basically shit on the main character of the story. Idc that it is a new trilogy, Luke Skywalker and Vader MADE Star Wars a complete arc, a complete story. However, this new staff shit all over Luke by making him a useless failure, and making Vaders sacrifice useless. They rendered both Luke and Vaders struggle throughout the first trilogy useless, to try to put Rey over as the true hero of Star Wars.
Well it's either bring them back on screen, or have someone in the movie say that the 3 of them have been hiding. You have to pass the torch on eventually though.
Rian Johnson was selfish and made a movie that only he and a few wanted and liked, he ignored fans and were the ones that keep him employed as a director in which he has failed.
Breaks my heart to hear how gutted he is to have not worked with Harrison again. How can you bring the main OT characters back and NOT have them all meet???????
Yeah, that's one of the stupidest things they have done with these films. I recall that Mark originally said he thought for sure the lightsaber would go to him because it was his to begin with. Then he said, "but it went to Rey instead of me. I didn't get that. And, when I was reading the script, I kept thinking 'when do I come in?' But it wasn't until the last page that I came in." He has a very valid point there. Why would it automatically go to Rey? It just never made sense to me. Plus, I too, was very disappointed that all 3 never had a scene together.😒

"We're supposed to give them something they don't expect, that we want" look at marks face, the way he says that, he is speaking out against Rian while sitting right next to him. What a legend.
The point being to surprise them and give them something they didn't know they wanted, rather than them never expanding their horizons. Also, Rian is more of an indie director and likes to do things his way. He values the creative process more than all those Hollywood hacks who are happy to joylessly, dispassionately churn out formulaic trash for big money.
Chris . . . I'm pretty sure I knew for a fact that I didn't want to see Luke turn back into a whiny little bitch. I'm pretty sure I still know that for a fact. You're implying that I wanted to see that, and just couldn't handle actually seeing it . . . when, I assure you, I never wanted that. I don't need just straight-up fanservice - I'm ok with unexpected turns in a plot - but this was just straight-up character assassination.
And, don't try to excuse Rian because he's just "indie" . . . NO - the man is postmodernist, and he just doesn't care for things like structure, plot, or coherence. In his mind, just "subverting" those things should be praised because "Hey, he did something different and risky!" Which would be fine . . . IF his movie told a good, coherent story. TLJ did not do that, and what I know of his other works (Cloverfield, and "The Fly" episode of Breaking Bad, in particular) he just doesn't know how to story, period.
Rian appears to be an enormously self absorbed individual. I don't think he very much cares if people are saying things about him that are positive or negative, so long as he's being talked about.
Mark Hamill has a booming career still, and an eternal legacy as Luke Skywalker. A new director and a shitty script does nothing to change any of that. Why should he care?
@@pennclick you speak the truth. Luke Skywalker is a cultural icon, a character that is immortalised forever in fiction, and the name of Mark Hamill with him. Rian will be forgotten.
Naw, Mark Hamill did the best job he could, plus force ghost is a thing. Hopefully that movie won't be it for him, if he's up for it AND they have a competent plan this time.
I think what upset Mark the most is that this was his last run as Luke, a character who means so much to so many including himself. And the film was dark and intense, so much about Luke went against his original character, and he didn't get the opportunity to reunite with his family and friends. Heck, Mark had to make up his own backstory in his mind as to why Luke was behaving so radically differently and what had changed him, and it was better canon than anything Dismey created. I think the different direction just cemented that Disney owned the character now, and that he couldn't have as much ownership of it as before. This was a character he safeguarded the legacy of for years, long before Disney got their hands on it, and now they were taking it away from him. It's like someone ripping off your arm and replacing it with a foot made out of rubber. Of course he'd be pissed.
han solo = stabbed and thrown off a bridge by his own son. Luke Skywalker = died of exhaustion from the strain of force projection. With only one or two characters reacting, while the rest are cut off and/or forgotten about. Terrible and depressing way to end our OT heroes journies.
i know it didn't so sad. Think we could have accepted the deaths of our 3 OT heroes, but the manner of them has been so poorly handled and disrespectful
And the sad thing is, if Kennedy didn't want to make Star Was, she didn't have to make Star Wars; they could have made a whole slew of spinoffs like Rogue One, rarely, if ever, mentioning the original characters and leaving us all wanting more. But destroying male heroes is what feminists do; they can't make their own, so they destroy others. Even now, Rey is not a character I care about even though she is clearly the female hero Kathleen Kennedy wants. Rey is not likeable, and Daisy's acting is wooden. Leia is a real female hero, strong, quick, somebody you'd like to meet. I cringe to think what they are going to do to her character in 9, without even Carrie Fisher saying it's not right, like Mark Hamill tried to do for Luke.
Well killing off Han was Harrison Fords dream, Im glad they respected that, but why couldnt they do the same for Mark? and linking that to feminism is just plain stupid and ignorant.

Disney bullied Mark into submission but there are still hints of the old Mark Hamill here, like when he threw that jab at Johnson about doing a good job of killing the past - it seemed more like a subtle insult to me, like he was saying "Congratulations Rian, you killed peoples interest in Star Wars" - or when he showed that he still has an idea of what the audience wants, something most people in Hollywood are too stupid, self-centred and/or arrogant to understand these days. Sure, he complimented Johnson for his exit here, but have people forgotten his expression in the Star Wars premier and that glare he gave to Johnson like he wanted to pull a Darth Vader and throw him down a reactor shaft? If that's not the look of a shocked, angry man who was betrayed then I don't know what is.
Mark cares about the fans. He's said multiple times that he wanted the film to be for them and he told Johnson on several occasions that he disagreed with Luke's portrayal because he knew that the fans would be furious. As for being bullied, less intelligent people often put down people smarter than they are, which is why Johnson ignored all of Mark's criticisms, Kennedy constantly tries to keep him in check and the overall movie turned out to be shit because they were too stupid and arrogant to listen to him. Furthermore, Mark signed on BEFORE George Lucas sold Star Wars, so he thought he would be working with George.
Mark signed up for it not knowing the piece of shit Rian was going to make, then he was bullied into playing a repulsive version of Luke. Icing on the cake is Mark being required to thank Rian for the opportunity to destroy the iconic character Mark brought to life.

@@haosmagnaingram6992 They did come though. I really liked this version of Luke. It was more realistic considering all the stuff he's been though in the original trilogy and then having most of his padawans killed and some of them joining the dark side
Daring is good. I want original content that I'm not expecting. That is what makes a movie good. This version of Luke was realistic considering all he's been though.
Daniel O'Rourke I’m not opposed to the direction they took Luke, more with how they justified it and how they used it. The justification was extremely weak, with the stupid, _it was just a misunderstanding_ trope using the same scene with minor changes to convey the new story 3 different times (you want a good film about deception and different perspectives of the same story then do it like Rashomon or Hero) it just felt lazy and kinda jarring like when the scenes were reused in transformers 2 (albeit to a slightly lesser extent). Secondly his actions towards Kylo/Ben which incited the whole thing felt a little overboard, extreme and irrational, not saying Luke wouldn’t have possibly considered killing him to stop a powerful dark side user from rising before it was too late, but going that far I actually laughed at the absurdity in the theater when I say that (I’m guessing that wasn’t that wasn’t the intended reaction). Lastly Luke’s character direction sadly was just underutilized in my opinion, only really creating some justification behind kylo, but the actual depressed Luke didn’t really impact any of the characters only going through a self contained minor arc regaining some hope after Yoda spoke to him, he really had no impact on Rey’s character or any of the others (although he had no interactions with them). It just felt like he could have been used better as a driving force in the narrative to create an internal conflict and resolution in the main cast (who is mostly pretty static) as well as resolve his own issues possibly through the new cast, instead of his purpose being limited solely to his issue resolving. I get what he was trying to do with Luke, making him an embodiment of his theme of failure, I just felt that it was poorly executed. That being said Luke is far from my least favorite part of the movie, if he was the only problem I had with it, or if there were no major problems with it, I really would have liked the movie, I would probably consider it better than attack of the clones, the phantom menace, and the force awakens.
Joe Valenitni Yes you are. I hated what they did to Luke too. But if you were using “literally” correctly, we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now because your heart would NOT still be inside of your body functioning. Someone LITERALLY would have removed it, thus killing you. That’s what the word means. A more fitting way of saying it would be “Someone basically ripped my heart out”. Just saying.
All of the Disney Cabal are clowns Johnson, Kennedy and Abrams. All the Corporate SJW poorly written Agenda setters out to desecrate George Lucas and the original Star Wars actors and thier characters are.
This is precisely why the Disney films failed, they were not just the logical extension of the story, they were either trying to not give the audiences what they wanted or trying to copy the OT. They were not simply just trying to deliver an actual Episode 7, 8 and 9 that seemed like a realistic next series of events in continuity.

He would do a fantastic job as a director, because he understands how his character and the world of the character should be portrayed.
and definitely not the new fans who think episode 8 is good
The fact they didn't have a single scene with Carrie, Mark, Harrison, and Chewie all together again in the falcon is such an astonishingly egregious missed opportunity.

They literally destroyed the OG cast in this new trilogy. That's one thing I'm not gonna forgive them for.

Yeah, that's one of the stupidest things they have done with these films. I recall that Mark originally said he thought for sure the lightsaber would go to him because it was his to begin with. Then he said, "but it went to Rey instead of me. I didn't get that. And, when I was reading the script, I kept thinking 'when do I come in?' But it wasn't until the last page that I came in." What a brilliant strategy Rian
I expected TLJ to be another carbon copy of a preexisting movie in the franchise.
And my expectations were correct.
In his mind, just "subverting" those things should be praised because "Hey, he did something different and risky!"
Which would be fine . . . IF his movie told a good, coherent story. TLJ did not do that, and what I know of his other works (Cloverfield, and "The Fly" episode of Breaking Bad, in particular) he just doesn't know how to story, period.
When it Rians, it poors.
Rian Johnson kinda ruined Mark Hamill's career as Luke. I don't think he cares either. :|

Serious shade thrown by Mark there - loved it. RJ is nothing but a narcissistic hack and KK's directorial shill.

Everyone went out like a bitch in the original trilogy. Are you all forgetting the flaws of the original trilogy? Or are you just living off nostalgia
And Lando has been completely forgotten. The hero who destroyed the second Death Star doesn’t even get his name mentioned in the New Trilogy?!?

That’s the thing with being daring and taking risks sometimes they don’t come through and end up sucking, especially when attempted by an incompetent director.
The most devastating tragedy to ever happen in movie making EVER.

Wow the way Mark pauses at 1:37, he's so hurt by the fact that all three of them will never see each other again. He's holding back a tear, it's heartbreaking.
The "old fogeys" were the only thing I actually cared about in Star Wars. They are why the movies meant so much to people. "Forget the past, kill it if you have to" and bury your franchise with it.
The sequels need to be recreated with different directors and filled with people who actually genuinely love Star Wars and the community.
Possibility: Dave Filoni
Korya Iine agreed.
Make it animated. That way we can get round Carrie Fisher's death and Harrison Ford apparently not wanting to come back.
Korya Iine Amazing, every word of what you just said was wrong!
Or something actually new
This movie was basically trying to be an edgelord from start to finish
0:48
Braindead audience: „Yeah“ „Whoo“ *clapclap
Hamil's reaction was stonecold
They are cheering coz they know mark was making a point attacking rian for what he said about what he wants, idiot
@@Anonymous-yq6wy or perhaps they love of the idea of subverting expectations and deconstructing other peoples work like george lucas works just for a laugh because of Kennedy's resentment and not to mention the audience are nihilistic and apathetic to the the world..................idiot.
@@Anonymous-yq6wy or maybe they're just plain retards
not to many of them did clap most of them where quiet
This is why Mark is awesome. He’s the only one to be speaking the way most of the fans are thinking and talking about online.
Jared Wignall *Word* 👌
I really wish George Lucas and Mark Hamill were in charge of the narrative of the new trilogy, so sad, such wasted, wasted opportunity, and now that opportunity is gone forever.
Professor Duckford From what little I’ve gathered on “Legends” continuity I personally consider that as cannon. I pretty much disregard everything from the sequels
“Don’t give the audience what they want”
Rain Johnson: Give the audience what they didn’t know they didn’t want.
The audience clapping is everything wrong with a part of our fanbase as they are like sheep. Just doing something different for the sake of doing something different should not be applauded. If he had Luke playing Volleyball the whole movie on the island, would that be interesting because it is something nobody expected?
Chris Olivo
Yeah what a bunch of brain-dead morons. I shook my head when I heard them whoop and cheer like idiots. One good thing about this sorry affair is the dignity and authenticity shown by Mark Hamill throughout this dismal period. He knows it is shit and it obviously rubs him up the wrong way as it does the rest of us. Rian Johnson, well I can't relate to him and his motivations at all. As Bugs Bunny said: "Gee, what a maroon".
Look we found that one guy who downvoted the clip
I'd rather have seen the Luke playing volleyball movie than what we got.
Brian Sprenger lol!!!!!
Science fiction was once all about smart people who thought deeply about possible futures and choices we make today, but media fans changed that. Now most media fans will rave about any movie that does special effects; the story and plot are beyond their comprehension. So while many of us are grumbling about how this modern retelling of myths and legends as old as mankind was botched, most are raving "good sword fight".
This makes me sad, angry, disappointed, sorry...
DRAKO9764 you have every right to be, this movie sucked and RJ killed star wars.
GamingBrad Kathleen Kennedy too!
DRAKO9764 no one cares
Joseph Watkins I do, and I'm not the only one, the sad thing is that the ones that have the power to do something... Don't
DRAKO9764 the majority of people don't care, sadly the worst star wars haters are star wars fans, its an endless cycle that never ends. A star wars movie comes out majority of people enjoy it and then the minority crap on it until the next one, it gets to the point where its mentally draining seeing the same comments over and over, just do me a favor and wait 7 more months to complain about the next movie.
I thought it was insulting when Ben said kill off the past it was like telling fans to get over it
that and Ray saying "I believe he is at peace now..." or something about Luke after Luke "died"....that line felt forced to me...especially now after knowing Mark Hamill feelings on the movie
James M I could've accepted him dying but at that point it didn't make sense if J.J Abrams is like ,duck you I'm changing that I'll be so happy
Don't forget, Kylo Ren is the bad guy. The film doesn't agree with his way of seeing things. His worldview is what the heroes are fighting, to a certain extent.
Tlj is very trash
Thunda1986 Yes it was. How about "Let Ben Solo Die, Kill Him If You Have To." That would have been a better line coming from Luke.
Sounds to me like he’s holding back.... A LOT
Mark Hamill will always be Luke and Joker to me
Turrican4D who
Wow, people just clap without thinking
The audience are mindless drones and are being directed by a guy holding a huge white board saying: Clap now" which he raises every now and then.
"No! We have to give them something that WE want." --the definition of "arrogance"
So it’s now 2020 and we’ve all just watched one of the single most incredible moments ever in the entire history of Star Wars. That last episode in Mando is what we’ve been waiting on and Mark Hamill himself must be buzzing right about now.
Rian Johnson and his lack of respect for the fans and Luke Skywalker really did split the fan base because he was more interested in making a name for himself. There is no Star Wars without the passion and loyalty of the fans so in future don’t ghost the fans and don’t ignore the advice and concerns from one of its key actors!
Yep. What the fans should do from now on is to refuse to recognize the sequel trilogy. What sequel trilogy?
Mark himself says he has "short-term memory loss" and doesn't remember those. Many actual fans refuse to engage in conversations that try to compare or tie up the Mandalorian stories to the sequel trilogy.
Wait, what sequel trilogy?
Respect is earned. All those fuckers did was disrespect everything and everyone, and their shit products need to be given the disrespect it deserves: being forgotten into oblivion.
Then again..what sequel trilogy? There's going to be one? I'm excited for the future of Star Wars.
I felt more emotional connection with the final 5 minutes of the Mando with shitty deep-fake Luke than I did with the entire sequel trilogy. It's ridiculous
@@gabeux I hear you! It’s honestly such a shame and a colossal waste of the perfect opportunity to create something truly special. The one great thing about the sequels was Adam Driver with Kylo Ren, he’s a cool character.
This entire comments section is cancerously embarrassing. Lol Y'all keep crying.
@@theS0UND_1 We are Star Wars fans so we’ll never stop crying 😉
"The Last Jedi was incredibly daring."
He confused the word "daring" with the word "insulting."
He's under contract until the Disney trilogy ends; he's contractually not allowed to make any directly negative comments about the film, the director, the cast or the crew until the conditions are fulfilled.
I think he knew exactly what he meant
No. That was perfect. If you read between the lines you'll know he was thrashing the movie but had to hide it under euphemisms and synonyms. Just look at how restless he was the entire time.
No he meant daring in that Rian made some VERY bold and VERY stupid choices and Mark probably couldn’t believe Rian was actively trying to kill Star Wars.
From a certain point of view
MARK'S KNEW THIS FILM WAS NOT RIGHT. RIAN JOHNSON MURDERED LUKE SKYWALKER.
I APPLAUD YOU MARK HAMILL!
Rian Johnson is like the inverse Willy Wonka here. Instead of magic and wonder, it's just solemn sadness and soy.
with Alien Cow Milk to wash i down with.
"I couldnt have asked for anything more" oh the painnnnnn.... the pain in that statement. I'm sorry for what you had to go through Mark... and for all that you gave to us fans. You are the greatest Jedi.
“You’re doing a pretty good job” lol!!! Hamill burned down Johnson with that one!
*0:50** His hands are shaking...*
...I think he felt really angry deep inside, during this monologue :I
Anger leads to hate, hate leads to the dark side
The pressure in his speech sounds like he is restraining himself with all his might to resist from choking rian roundhead-starwars-ruiner, sucker-of johnsons
Holy shit he looks pissed in that frame
Poodle ͡ ͜ ͡. Owwwww yesss
WOW!!!! Mark Hamill thrashed him good!!! RIGHT ON!!!!
Mark has some serious balls to publicly denounce them like that. Rian and KK knew exactly what he was doing. I applaud him for sticking up for his character and for the hope that star wars should bring people.
The burden of blame belongs to Kennedy. Even if she was too dumb to recognize the insanity of that script, a simple appeal to Lucas for advice could have saved the world from TLJ. It's more than stupidity that destroyed Star Wars; it's arrogance and contempt. And when Mark freakin Hamill voices serious concerns about the script, a great actor and a greater student of drama than you'll ever be, maybe should listen. The script should have been shitcanned one millisecond after the Yo Mama joke.
Even after the disappointment of the TPM and TFA, Star Wars was still in my heart. Now it's dead to me.
Still love Mark though.
I was quite dissapointed with TPM but i didnt hate it, but i despise TLJ from my heart.
He was warning us the whole time 😂
At 0:11, Mark gets the incoming Di$ney/Kennedyfilm message via hidden earpiece, _"O.k. Hamill, tone it down, Empress Kennedy warned you about your excessive negative criticisms!"_ At 0:24, he gets the following message along with the audible click of the sniper rifle's hammer being pulled back, _"Last chance Hamill, tone it down.. or _*_ELSE!!"._* At 0:50, next to last transmission, _"That's a "good boy" Hamill..."._ 1:56, _"Report sent. Message received. The Empress will spare you... for now. Next time, don't push it. You've been warned... "Mark""._
He's stuck living out the small role he had in "Kingsmen".
River Of Blacklights “Di$ney/Kennedyfilm” 😂
lmao
lol... It’s funny ‘cause it’s true
Mr Smith except the fact sniper rifles don’t have hammers.
I assume the audience for these events are mostly Disney employees
It looks like there is a room driver who keeps the audience in check, wakes them up when they don't see the applause sign
Mark Hamill- “...you did a good job of that.” Rian Johnson “that’s right.”
What an utter KNOB JOCKEY
“Forget the past, kill it of you have to” sums up Disneys stance on any older media property
So we couldn't have one scene with all three of them? Why?
Anoonymouse 123 Hamil said it in the clip: It's something that the fans wanted but the movie was about what the director wanted instead.
Just so happens that's the opposite of what the fans wanted unfortunately :(
So sad 😔
Sad indeed, never happen now :,(
I don't see how it's the fault of Rian to not have a scene with the original gang as Han is already dead in the VII. But arguing with idiots....
Ikmuzun _ because instead of having a flashback to Luke trying to kill his nephew in his sleep or having Luke milk the tits of a space walrus he COULD have had a FLASHBACK with the original gang together numnuts
Idiots applauding because they thought Rian’s approach was deep and brave, when Hamill was trying to diss him.
Thats because they we're hand picked by disney!
I think they clapped because they agree with his veiled criticism.
You can like both. TLJ is a masterpiece but flawed. Rian could've adjusted the story slightly and still done the same story. So he has a vision but a narrow one and could've listened to Mark more. no need to choose one person over the other.
Chan Thorpe Half of TLJ is spent running away in a space ship, the other half is spent on some random planet feeling bad for animals... I deffinantly do not consider it a masterpiece, quite the opposite
@@tonychyo4657 You're confusing plot with story. The plot maybe small but the story is fine. I mean in Phantom Menace not much happens - the battle on Naboo is small and does not mean much but the film might great. Just saying your logic is flawed.
“I had a wonderful entrance in 7, and a wonderful exit in 8”
Hmmm 🤔
It really was a wonderful entrance I remember watching it in the cinema and I was very happy as luke is my favourite character, but of course as with most things feminism and RJ ruined star wars for me
The Young Wolf ~ oh yeah it was a great entrance in the force awakens it was built up well, I think the tension and stuff was completely lost at the start of the last Jedi for a bad joke
he probably said that because he could tell rian was getting pissed.
Jedi’s usually don’t lie.
evvignes ~ being the key word
Your wonderful entrance was in the finale of Season 2 of the Mandalorian, the real Luke Skywalker. The hero, the rescue, the new hope!
All Mark Hamill does now is saying the opposite of what he really thinks. It's called irony. But in the end it is just devastating to see him trying to make sense of these terrible sequels that he had to do if he wanted to reprise the role of Luke Skywalker. He is a victim of Kennedy/Disney.
I think Lucasfim is full of malignant narcissists.
Luke why are you talking about yourself?
We love you, Luke
And I love you, Kelly.
0:37 - 0:51 the reason most people hate The Last Jedi, explained in one sentence.
0:11 “I’m trying”
I hate this guy so much omg
"I mean it saids there in the script Let the past die kill it if you have too and you're doing a pretty good job of that" Burned his ass, good job Mark.
Mark Hamill task force. protect him at all costs!
"If it bleeds, we can kill it..." Abrams made it bleed with TFA, while Johnson finished it off with TLJ.
Yep
