      The problem with TROS was JJ not Daisy! I mean, sure, it was an entertaining escape from reality, but as a sequel to TLJ it was terrible (too much back peddling) and as an ending to the saga it was lazy.

    • @eufrosniad994

      @@lookingforwookiecopilot You must be surely kidding? The issue was that TLJ thought subverting expectations built by Force Awakens was an actual crowd pleaser. That entry wrote itself into a corner so the only way to move forward was to back peddle. TLJ should go down in history as an example of what not to do in the 2nd part of a trilogy.

      @@eufrosniad994 In TFA the New Republic government is destroyed and Luke is missing, having just "walked away from it all" after one of his students destroyed his school. TLJ begins with what's left of the "good guys" fleeing, and Rey finding a Luke that still has a "walk away from it all" mentality.
      So, what expectations from TFA did TLJ subvert?

      @@lookingforwookiecopilot I think it’s safe to say that being unable to comprehend any expectations in TFA explains why you enjoyed TLJ. You remind me of a friend who had many of their favourite movies in the IMDb bottom 100 list. In short, you are far from a level of grasping themes and narrative devices that build expectations. So it is natural that everything appears great to you.

I mean the Force Awakens was not that great, but you could feel that JJ Abrahams loved the originals. It felt too close to them and as such kind of fan fiction. But at least there was some passion and care. And the baseline for the cool characters (not iconic, but they were good enough) was there. It's the same team, basically, at Lucasfilm that brought you the Disney Trilogy abomination, so it is really doubtful. They did all the actors a disservice, especially the OG cast and Daisy being the star. They damaged the OG's and made her have pretty much zero character arc. Rey was a BORING character. She was super perfect in practically every way from the get-go. That's not an interesting person. They need to be able to overcome adversities and rise to the occasion. They can't go from awesome to super awesome. Yuck.

      Maybe you go to the Lucasfilm at the Skywalker ranch and tell them you're gonna be a new writer for the new Star wars film. @@dan_hitchman007 I don’t think she was super perfect. I think male viewers just wanted to see her suck because they didn’t look at her and buy her as a worthy protagonist. Rey was flawed because she was stubborn, impatient, unpolished, and on occasion illogical - all of which she shared with Luke by the way. I’m over the tired Mary Sue complaint because it doesn’t apply for male protagonists: you expect the male action hero to be a badass and look cool doing stunts and trick shots and kicking ass and to know what he’s doing. But for the record, I had qualms with how they handled the original characters too.
      Rey was boring because they didn’t DEVELOP her. They barely changed her look. They left her isolated with her parentage up in the air until panicking about it and giving it the dumbest explanation ever. They didn’t give her a personal goal other than to turn Kylo Ren; her other goal of ending the First Order was a shared goal with the entire rebellion. We can’t even say that her personal goal was to find her parents because she believed she was supposed to wait on Jakku for them to return and she had zero clues as to why they left or where to, so they shot her in the foot by making her innermost desire a totally passive point.

      @@TheBrandiElizabeth You saw a different set of films than I from your perspective. It also has nothing to do with the character being female. There were great films with female protagonists that I grew up with. In comparison, Rey was a weakly written character with very little growth. They even had to come up with a last minute excuse as to why she was so amazing so early... being a Palpatine and that SURPRISE!! he's still alive. That little come out of nowhere twist completely ruined Vader's redemption in Jedi. They messed up Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Vader, Chewie, Yoda, the droids... they just couldn't leave well enough alone. No wonder Mark Hamill and John Boyega were pissed.

      Same as it ever was. I think “fans” of SW 77 (before it was renamed A New Hope) were originally pissed about both ESB and RofJ. Only time made them lighten up, same goes for the Prequels, they were so hated in their time they gave death threats to its actors and keep in mind this was both early Internet days and pre-YT. It got to the point of People v George Lucas and his indifference towards the future of the series.
      More and more, the SW brand feels like a monkey’s paw, cursing everyone involved. I’m definitely looking forward to Rey’s comeback adventure. That said, SW fan sites and videos, run as fast as you can away from them. They’re all toxic.

      @@GeneralBulldog54 Totally agree. As an 80s kid (meaning 70s-born) I remember how much grief ROTJ got. Some fans said the Ewoks “ruined” Star Wars. There was blowback about the sister revelation. And people who still hated that Han “won” the love triangle.
      And then there was division about the EU. It “ruined” the OT.
      And the prequels got so much hate (including for “ruining” the EU) and the OT was lionized as superior. Fans called for George’s head!
      And then, of course, Disney “ruined” Star Wars. And fans said only George knew Star Wars and the prequels were lionized.
      The cycle just keeps going!
      …which is why the ability of Rogue One to have pleased the majority of fans from all eras is still remarkable to me. Sure, the Kyle Katarn fans are still shook but it ranks pretty high on most people’s lists!

    The crazy thing about Disney Star Wars and Lucas Star Wars is how all the actors viewed the movies and their performances and Star Wars as a whole. Ewan loved his role and embraced it and couldn't wait to get back. He's more than excited to come back as Obi Wan. Hayden had a weird period where people hated him but now love him, however, he always loved playing Anakin and wanted to do it again. Natalie, I wouldn't say "loved" her role as Padme but she was extremely well received and she would also love to play her role again. Mark Hamill, is, well, Mark Hamill and loves everything about it. He IS Star Wars. The sequel cast...they're all basically done. They don't appear to love their roles or embrace their characters and they seem to not like the movies and where it put them as a whole. When Episode 7 came out, they were still pretty hyped, even after 8 came out. Once TRoS got its backlash, they all kinda just moved on and want nothing to do with Star Wars or their characters, which is very different from everyone who was in the Lucas era. Sure, some might have different feelings than what I've covered but for the most part, they're done and they don't care. Daisy doesn't seem hyped to ever come back. Adam Driver doesn't exactly want to come back.

The idea of Kylo killing Snoke and being the main villain and Rey being special but being a nobody, without a big related family, is how they should have followed it but then JJ came and changed everything in IX...

      Respectfully disagree with you.
      As I stated in my previous post, I'm not here to start a flame war and I understand and respect your opinion, but the way I see it, the fan community did nothing wrong to Daisy Ridley or the rest of the cast for that matter, including Kelly Marie Tran.
      If there is anyone who's been unfair to Daisy Ridley, it's been "the powers that be," the people who created Rey and this new generation of Star Wars characters and storylines that a good number of fans just don't like, myself included.
      The fans who genuinely love the world created by George Lucas react to the characters and how they are presented. The only time fans truly react to an actor / actress is when they start saying questionable / ridiculous things in public (i.e., Brie Larson) or they attack the fan base. Daisy Ridley has done no such thing to my knowledge.
      Rey will probably never be as embraced as Luke, Han, or Leia, and that is due to the way she was written, but also because the character has been embodied and defined by Daisy's performance.
      I mean, let's be real. Here's a character who's so badly written that she's telling Han Solo, a man who was flying and working on the Millennium Falcon 30 years before she was born, how to fix it.
      Rey is a character so badly written that despite not having any formal combat or Jedi training, she wins every single lightsabre battle she's in. And to add insult to injury, she never lost an appendage (i.e., hand or an arm) in combat like Luke or Anakin, who were trained combatants.
      And why didn't Rey lose a hand or arm in her many lightsabre confrontations? Because she's a female, which is the same reason Daisy Ridley is getting sympathy from a certain number of people.
      The truth of the matter is that Daisy is the face of the new generation of Star Wars, and therefore, the fans are going to direct a lot of their feelings about this new trilogy to her, it just comes with the territory.
      She is being treated appropriately. The fans have done nothing wrong to her.

    I'm not joking when I say that the only reaction to the kiss in the cinema I saw 9 in was a teen girl laughing. I stopped being critical of the film the instant the opening crawl started. My reaction was "Ah so its going to be one of THOSE movies" and just watched it for the dumb fun. But really, what else could they do with it? It was guaranteed to be messy no matter what they tried. I just feel bad for the actors since they are always the face of a movie. When people watch movies all they ever see are the actors and they throw all the blame on them. Looks like Daisy has done a variety of roles since and I hope she has more success in the future.

    • @eowynsisterdaughter
      @eowynsisterdaughter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The laughing is true for me, especially because Adam Driver dies immediately afterwards, which makes it look like her kiss killed him. I saw 7, not 8, went into 9 with zero investment, and therefore was reasonably entertained.

    • @sunMMVIII
      @sunMMVIII 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the kiss was a (actual) good subversion of expectation. The big romantic kiss fits at that point in the movie, but it doesn't really. The death shows that it was actually more complex - connection, loss, transfer of energy.

    • @yewtewbstew547
      @yewtewbstew547 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That was my exact reaction to and conclusion taken from the opening crawl also. I had heard things about it in advance that worried me, and remained optimistic, but as soon as I read the first lines of the title crawl I knew what I was in for lol. I do think it is worth stating that, as a result, the negative reaction to The Last Jedi's story was mostly vindicated.
      The biggest criticism of The Last Jedi could basically be summed up as; _"Why would you set up all of these plot devices in The Force Awakens that genuinely interested most people, only to discard and ignore every single one of them in the sequel, then write yourself into what seems like a dead end? And what are you going to do instead?"_
      Neither of those questions actually had an answer, they were completely winging it the whole way. It really was a dead end. I also disagree when Ridley says that The Rise of Skywalker is "controversial", I think she is just being diplomatic there, because from my point of view it seems pretty much unanimously agreed upon to have been bad. I think the only thing ever in question there is how honest people are willing to be about their opinions on it.
