All 50+ times Mark Hamill tried to subtly warn us about last jedi/force awakens and Disney

  • Mark Hamill "regrets" everything he said about not being happy with star wars the last jedi, saying he regrets having said anything. He now says the film is "an all time great" which is suspiciously counter to everything he's said in the past about the new star wars films. If anything Hamill has always come off like he hates the force awakens and the last jedi in countless press screenings, and interviews etc...It has seemed as if hamill was trying to warn us? Is this real "regret" or an order from the heads of disney?? I have 50+ clips that support the latter...

Trying to make him leave on "his own free will"...

Is he familiar with Legends? It's not canon to Disney's timeline, but it was the original canon. George Lucas had to approve a good portion of it and many elements of the prequel movies actually came from Legends first! For example, Coruscant. First appeared in the game, Star Wars Tie Fighter from 1998 before it appeared in the Phantom Menace in 1999.

i mean to be fair it leaves basically everything undeveloped and messed up. like Mark Hammill is completely correct that the fundemental essence of the Jedis was lost.
Like ill be honest too, rey, finn, and the new protagonists were completely horrible characters for starwars... I liked Kylo Ren in theory- but i felt like it didnt make that much sense when he was doing all the telepathy with Rey. there was potential in all of it, and i liked that there was a central female character to take the jedis forward, but she really didnt achieve jack shit. like the whole question about her origins was completely unnanswered in any coherent way.

@@kkkkkk6570 I liked the idea of Rey and Finn originally. The idea of the force not being tied to a bloodline and Rey just being a nobody who is randomly super powerful is really cool, as it shows anyone can be powerful with the force. They just ruined it by giving her that stupid connection to Kylo Ren and making her a Palpatine.
Finn as well was a brilliant idea. A stormtrooper deserter fighting for the rebellion is a great concept, and the whole meeting with that group of other deserters was a great idea. It was just written so poorly and Finn as a character just got shafted between like 3 love interests and was made into a very shallow character.
I think even with the flaws it had the first movie was pretty decent and had a TON of potential for what it could have set up. But it was in the second and third movies that they took all those great concepts and ideas and fucked it all up in the biggest way they possibly could.

Luke went from defying Yoda and Obi Wan, in order to face down Darth Vader and save his friends. He went from standing in front of the emperor and throwing his lightsaber away, to attempting to murder a young kid in his sleep, and to hiding away from the world when the Galaxy needed his help. Such a total reversal in character needs an adequate explanation but the writing doesn’t come close to providing it. The closest I can garner, is that Luke was scared of the dark side growing in Ben and wanted to squash it as early as possible. This from a character who so determinedly managed to bring Darth Vader of all people, back to the light. It’s utter writing hackery, designed to subvert expectations, to shock and to look interesting. In reality, all they’ve done is reduce the popularity of the series by about two thirds

    • @names_are_useless
      @names_are_useless 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I've been trying to write my own fan Sequel Trilogy Script on and off. The perfect setting for Luke is one in which a Post-Empire, but a very divided Republic run by corrupt politicians, would be trying to curry the favor of the Jedi and use them as a political prop. "We support the Jedi! We're less Imperial then those guy over there!" They don't want the Jedi to attain any political power themselves (who they fear), they want them merely as a political prop. And now even the hopeful Skywalker is losing faith in his Jedi Order. Sure it's around, but he's just walking through the motions and is ultimately just giving into the commercialization (hello Disney) and politicization (hello present-day) of what he's built.
A time finally will come when one of his Jedi defies what the major party backing his Order want. There is a planet in need of their help and his Jedi take the initiative to help them. Luke finds new hope in the next generation and makes the decision to sever his political ties and backing. Both Political Parties are none too happy and conspire in a plot to have him disappear and remake the Jedi Order themselves into an Arm of the Republic (history repeating itself, from a certain point of view).
And while the Jedi loyal to the teachings of the Order will eventually succeed in this conspiracy, Luke will play a major of this, sacrificing himself in order to save the Republic from itself and bring peace back to the Galaxy.

It could've been easily explained too, just paralel luke to obi wan regarding his shame of failure of teaching anakin, except this time the people he failed are actually his family. I think that would perfectly explains why luke ran away, that he just can't face leia and han after he failed to teach their son. And rey would play more significant and meaningful role in making luke finally face his failure instead of running away and hide from it. This way, both luke and rey can have character development while also not make rey feel like she's not the main character

Fredinator84 exactly this is bullshit, if Mark edited the script and all of his ideas were incorporated the film would be better. He is one of the closest people to understand the Jedi, Disney just through everything that George made in the trash, Mark has taken some of the things he noted and became knowledgeable of the Star Wars universe. Many of the plot holes would be gone and Rey would be less of a Mary Sue. Now if George wrote it, it would have been golden with that budget. They don’t listen to the fans or the people who experienced it themselves. They just care about pleasing sjws and making money. If they had listened to Mark’s suggestions then the trilogy would not have had such a downward spiral, they could have saved the characters and made for some epic moments. Disney’s studios are destroying Star Wars.

Spicy Puffin : Star Wars is dead. It’s over. Seriously, the only story that could be told was Luke training a new Jedi and handing down “Excalibur” to his main padowan, just like Obi Wan and Luke in ANH. There can be no other story. I’ve been thinking and thinking what could be a good story to tell, and I can’t come up with anything. The Sith returning would be basically the whole PT again. Sith comes, Jedi defeat them.....this story has already been told. Star Wars is stuck in a hole, because unlike Marvel, they cannot create a new bad guy. In the Marvel Universe there are an unlimited amount of villains available. In Star Wars it’s only the Sith. Having the Sith coming back is doing the whole ST again. And there is a clear and present danger that Star Wars will become a superhero type of movie, in which the Force will act as a superpower. It’ll basically become a comic book movie. If you or anyone’ can come up with a better story do tell.

Honestly i just think you had way different hopes and expectations for the story and u simply didnt get what u wanted so everyones complaining.
Even mark hamill in one of the clips here doesn’t seem to get it.
He was surprised how someone as hopeful and optimistic as luke ended up in a secluded island by himself.
Well first of all, if you watch the movie, it explains why.
Also lets not pretend that, that isnt exactly what kenobi and yoda did as well., both of which felt terrible and responsible for the rise of Darth Vader.
Why wouldn’t luke feel the same type of regret when he has lost not only one of his best students, but also his nephew. He failed Han solo, Leia, The whole jedi order and the lives of the students he was training.
No wonder he would think the jedi order were evil and unfair, it even clouded his judgment which led to him thinking about taking his own nephews life.
Thankfully, he regains that hope back once rey shows some promise, and is reassured by yoda that she’ll be a great fit for a jedi.
Like it or not, the character development in The last jedi was incredible, it just sucks that RJ didnt continue with his vision for it, instead we get a trilogy with three different visions for the plot and characters, which makes it all look horrible in the bigger picture

It sort of just hit me. Luke was a male character that I looked up to as a young boy because he was able to do the right thing throughout temptation. But disney took his archetype and reversed it, so if I grew up on the disney movies I would have seen a weak, feeble man that sort of retreated and hid from his problems. Its almost like disney planned this all along. If you study joseph campell theres lots of important archetypes in star wars

Thank you! I thought I was a bit out of line or too nerdy to share this sentiment. I view Luke as hero of mine still as an adult, a selfless, hopeful, loving person who saved his father and vanquished evil with good. Now what they did to him was almost like they wanted to break the spirit of the hero’s journey and replace it with nihilism mixed with misandry and irrelevance. It’s sad, but I’ll always hold near and dear, the OG Luke Skywalker.

It was a film about good versus evil, and the spirit of good, and I can inderstand why Maro is not happy with how they have used the figure of the architypal hero, Luke, and made him something that a hero would never be.

They didn’t just ruin Luke’s legacy. They ruined the legacy of Star Wars. Such is the case with many films of this current generation. The films of this generation are trash. They don’t cultivate hard work as the solution, power is just given at random. It’s like this everywhere. With the new trilogy, with The Legend of Korra, with Boruto, and more. Then again the hard work of those who worked on the original shows/films was simply discarded and these half butt idiots that have the rights to these shows now simply just throw words on a page and nothing more, all because they know it will make money even if it’s horrible. No wonder these films don’t have what the old ones did. Because the generation that made the new ones don’t know hard work. They don’t know perseverance. They don’t know what it is to worry that no one would ever read or watch what they’ve written. They don’t know what it’s like to love the characters, they don’t know what it’s like to love the story, they don’t know what it’s like to cry with the characters on the hurtful parts, or laugh with them at the happy ones. Or to clench their fists when fights go down, fights where no one knows the outcome. These new generation people DONT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT AT ALL. They don’t deserve our money

I had a dream last night where the rebels were celebrating the downfall of the empire, and in an outer region of space a kaminoan clone data console flickered, and flashed the words "Prototype GenDat unit 01: Codename Emperor destroyed"
It was already a better sequel I regret waking up.
Luke and Leia and Han and Chewie then went on to fight a new, more advanced clone army that was being prepared as a second wave.
Palpatine actually died but revealed he was only a pawn in a much larger game.
Luke was visited by the force ghost of his father in moments of desperation, Leia trained hard but couldn't perceive him and it hurt her but she learned to deal with help from Han.
Ben and Rey were born, both were incredibly gifted from a young age with the force.
Ben died at 13 protecting his younger sister Rey from droids, she took his lightsaber in her other hand and trains hard not to fall to the dark side after losing her brother.
She eventually stood by Luke and Leia's side as a great Jedi after many struggles.
The kaminoans are very gifted in making clones and genetic modification, but are unable to be force sensitive themselves. Much like general grievous, they are talented in agile combat and do learn sith and Jedi fighting techniques while also augmenting their own force ability with genetic augmentation.
They are formidable enemies using their previous clone trials and jedi/sith gene shit to have become a much more powerful threat from the shadows.
Fuck you JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson my sleeping brain comes up with better movie ideas than yours combined and I'm hungover.
Late edit: this would still allow for no plot holes or address key unresolved issues in the prequels, perhaps bringing everything actually full circle and not shitting on the characters we loved.

A real problem that star wars writing faced, that game of thrones writing and several other franchises have faced or will face soon, is that when you beat the bad guy, the Next guy has to bigger and badder.
Ahem. Dragon ball z, mcu and others come to mind.
Doesn't mean you have to shit the bed and destroy 6 movies of world building to create legitimate conflict with an expansive universe on the scale that Star Wars is on.

The prequels were awesome and honestly my favorite part of the franchise but then they went the other direction WITH A DIFFERENT DIRECTOR(S) who had all power to twist his character. It’s interesting hearing him say “I guess it’s just the new generation” it’s like he’s learning to accept his fate and go with it but deep down he still doesn’t like it

The fact they think they can just trash Lucas’ Star Wars just because they bought the rights is ridiculous. You can’t just erase the story and change what you want. Star Wars isn’t made for Star Wars fans anymore. It’s made for investors, toy rights, and bandwagon fans trying to be “quirky and trendy” The people who liked Last Jedi did not grow up enjoying Star Wars.

Watching this years later, I feel so bad for Mark Hamill. You can clearly tell he really cares about Luke Skywalker as a character and he was proud to portray him. You can tell that he is really invested in understanding the character and portraying who he is, including his morality. Instead he got to work on an unmotivated Luke that was to be written out of the series, but still be used as what is essentially a glorified cameo. It's funny... I always liked Mark Hamill's acting, especially as Luke, yet I just somehow never had a big attachment to Luke in the original trilogy. However, after the flop of the "sequel trilogy", I actually feel a much stronger appreciation for the character of Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy. That type of character development as Luke had, as per some kind of space opera, with the acting power of Mark Hamill in a setting with physical props to boot... you hardly see that these days. In fact, you can't represent a Jedi such as Luke Skywalker much better than that; it's as good as it gets. And the sequel trilogy did absolutely nothing with that. And Mark Hamill will know that if it was made to be Luke's story, if it became his story, he could've done oh so much more... for the ENTIRE sequel trilogy, even. Such a shame to sideline such a pivotal character and such a great actor.

Last Jedi is a good movie. It is not a bad movie just because it wasn't directly geared toward the hard core of obsessive Star Wars fans who feel they know what a Star Wars movie should be and feel entitled to demand that from the creators of each next one-who want each new Star Wars movie to return to everything they liked about each previous one.
In fact, if they do that, we're going to get a shrinking, terminally recursive story. That's how we got Rise of Skywalker, which is just objectively very very bad. After all of the mewling we did about the prequels for the reason that they were bad, I was under the impression that what we really wanted out of Star Wars movies was for them to be good space adventure movies. Last Jedi showed me that I was incorrect in that assumption.

frams12 we aren’t saying it was bad because it didn’t appeal to hardcore fans, we’re saying it was bad because IT WAS BAD, like how they pandered to sjw’s, or how decisions characters made made absolutely no sense, or how the plot from this movie had nothing to do with the last one, they hardly even spoke about the events of the last movie, aside from Rey meeting Luke, also let’s talk about Rey, she is a complete Mary Sue, she’s somehow able to take on the praetorian guards in snokes chamber without having ANY experience with a light saber aside from swinging it around for a few seconds at Luke’s island, also how she’s able to contend with kylo who’s had tons of experience and training not just from snoke but from Luke as well, and you might say, well that’s because she’s a palpatine, which seems like a plausible explanation until you realize that most Mary Sue’s have some sort of excuse to their “Mary Sueness”, and even then she still shouldn’t be that powerful and adept with a lightsaber. We were excited to hear something about Snoke’s backstory but nope, he’s dead, deal with it, we wanted to hear something about why Kylo turned to the darkside but no, come TROS he’s dead too. It wasn’t just TLJ that was bad, it was the whole sequel trilogy

I was really looking forward to such a reunion scene. It would have meant a lot for the cast and the franchise and it was an opportunity that the sequel trilogy looked at and ran away from like it was a plague. Now it's impossible. The original cast acted together on the sets of the original movie and the writers never reunited on the same stage to finish their own story. They chose to make the "Skywalker" saga about everyone but the Skywalkers who started it all. The writers tried a Fire Emblem style approach to generational story telling and just fumbled it from start to finish with the sequel trilogy.
