I bought the Midnight Blue version of this USB hub, from Amazon, to provide additional hookups for my 2021 16” MacBook Pro. As far as the build quality, I agree with this video review about it not “feeling cheap”. But, after using it for a few hours, I decided that the Hiearcool 8-in-1 USB-C hub is going back to Amazon for a refund. Here’s what I didn’t like…
1) I have a Dell S2722QC monitor connected to my MacBook Pro via a USB-C connection. So, I took the monitor USB-C cable and inserted it into the Hiearcool’s “PD” slot, then connected the hub’s cord into my Mac. Well, that setup provided ZERO power to my Mac.
2) The second thing I didn’t like was the Hiearcool hub erratically turning on and off. Since I couldn’t use the hub to supply power to my computer, I just used it to connect an external 2.5” hard drive. When I got done with a project, I kept the hard drive connected to the hub and placed the computer into “sleep mode”. When I returned, I had about 50 notifications telling me that my hard drive wasn’t disconnected properly from my Mac! Apparently, the hub was connecting and disconnecting for no logical reason. This has NEVER happened to me, until I used this hub. Turning off and on, like that, makes me think the hub will damage my computer or overheat.
3) Oh, I also think the hub’s cord should be a few inches longer.
So, next time I’ll look for a hub from Belkin or some other well known company.
