The amp sim spiral: 1) get one plugin, something that you think covers the most cases (probably either Nolly or Plini) 2) but those 2 other plugins sounded sweet in those 2-3 edge cases and it leaves you the itch (probably NTS, Nameless, Omega and whichever you didn't pick during last point). get those 2 plugins . 3) discover IR plugins (MIKKO and GGD Zilla and more) 4) realize you can combined pedals and effects from one plugin with amps of the other plugin 5) cry in joy 6) realize now you need drums and bass also
I went with the Abasi a few months ago after plenty of research into the differences between the plugins, and your video showcased why it IS so different than the others. I love how crisp and light it sounds but still maintains that High Gain Djent feel. My 2nd choice was going to be Plini n it sounded great in this video. That riff was delightful, really quality content again
Funny.. when I decided to try some and figure out which one to buy for Heavy (Underoath / ETID) tones I wasn't even going to try the plini... but honestly after hours of comparing all of these amps side by side I'm really glad I did. There is something in the presence of the Plini that none of the other amps have. It's sweeter sounding and has that "rubber" that catches your ear which makes it far more natural sounding like a real amp. Futher more.. getting rid of that airy digital sound that's really hard to get out of a mix being that it's an amp sim. Flip back and forth from the Plini and any one of the others and you'll see what I mean.
As a Plini and NTS user, I am quite satisfied with my choice, well it may also be because I am used to them. All of them sounded good, only Abasi one stood out in the negative way, its just missing some frequencies I like.
Abasi user here... I agree, the abasi has a different mid curve to the others (having tried the other archetypes). I did find though, for me at least, the abasi plays with 8 string stuff a bit better than the Plini and the Nolly, hence why I went for that one.
Each one of them sounds amazing for their use, but to my ears and personal taste, Nameless and Abasi were the best sounding among all of these. Great video, a very good comparison and nice riffs!
Hey, I have a question regarding the Abasi plugin. When I tried it out, the noise gate seemed to not work. IT sounded like it was cutting out when I would play with distortion
@@VicSellsPeace Dude, I have the abasi. It is a great plugin, but the noise gate is an issue that it is even discusse on the neural forum. Absolutely perfect comparison. Thank you so much. I use the Archetype: Plini and I think it just sounds so gorgeous (depending on the right chords;)). The video we all needed. Thanks!
As somebody who has used omega cabs before and met their team/owner, Omega really know their shit. The best in the business IMO. Im gonna cop their plugin for sure. It sounded the best here, rich as hell.
For some reason I'm feeling the Nolly out of these, not sure I would have said that for the guitars only but in the mix it sounded the nicest and sat really well for me, it had a brightness without being too harsh and a nice clarity to it, but honestly I'd be happy with any of them

I'd have to go with Nolly for my taste. When guitars are compared on single note riffs and massive chords they really sound different but in the mix context is so similar that I don't care which one it's being used. Thanks for the video Keyan, really helpful.
This is a great comparison, thanks for making it! On first listen the Plini stood out to me in solo, but overall I really liked the NTS the most. Sounded nicest in the mix. It had a similar quality to the plini on the chords I think which I liked, but a bit more agression for the single note riffs that I quite liked. Quite surpirsed! Also I dig your bass tone in this demo haha.
Great video. Just two hours ago I bought Archetype Abasi and the Fortin NTS Suite. They both combined offer me a wide range of guitar sounds and as it´s possible to disable the internal IR and use an external IR plugin as you did, the options to modify the sound are quite uncountable. And of course there´s the 20% discount when you buy plugins from Neural right now. So again... great video, just as your other content. You´ve just won one subscriber. Keep up the good work!
Very interesting demo, I can definately hear the different charackter of each plugin. All of them sound sick, I'll probably stick to my Nolly, because to my ears it's the smoothest/richest and that's exactly what I like. But really you can't go wrong with either one.
I own the NTS, Plini, and just purchased Abasi. Currently waiting for Nolly to go on sale and then I'll get it too. Neural rewards previous customers with like 20% off future purchases and they always have stuff going on sale. I got Abasi for 50% off with the sale and my Customer discount. It's silly to choose just one or 2. they're all fun and each has a little something something that makes it special. Abasi is my current favorite. I wasn't prepared for the tones it gave me and I was really pleased with it
As far as stand alone great tone out of the gate Namless wins for me. I wish they would do a built in 5 band eq and reverb for it cause I find the 33 pedal takes way to much bass out, the attack it adds is great but the bass loss makes it almost unusable. the hexdrive is good but doesn't quite have the bite of the 33. Having the IR really evened the playing ground and surprised me for sure.

The NTS kind of eluded me too. Strikes me as a sort of mid ground between the Nameless and a 5150 style head but with a little more tonal options from the grind and girth. Maybe I’m completely wrong lol. Great video, Nameless and Nolly are still my fav’s 🤟🏻
Geez, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Keyan for making this video and helping us out there. Absolutely amazed the Nameless plugin i tried
Just picked up the Plini, Wong, Henson, and Abasi this Black Friday. Stocked to have these plugins to range across quite a bit of styles I mess around with. don't imagine I'll need anything else for a long time.
I’m not a metal guitarist, but bought Plini and now I’m having trouble going back to my other big name amp sims.. they’re collecting dust!! Problem is that I want all of the Neural DSP plug-ins. Particularly Nolly. Plini crushes the clean tones, absolutely gorgeous, but the sort of midrange-y harmonic focus of Nolly makes me want it too. Plini sounds smooth, but Nolly has just a bit more gnar and crunch on the dirty tones. I’ve got the Darkglass one too, and it’s fantastic. Just all amazing products. Honestly made me think less of some of my other sims 😬
For me it's a close tie between the Nameless and the Nolly - they both react really nice to palm mutes. But they're all very close - I just don't really mind the Abasi
This is a really useful comparison dude you made them all sound fantastic, I really like the smooth high end on the Granophyre but if I'd of purchased the Nameless Suite a long time ago like yourself then I doubt I'd be upgrading. For best bang for the buck and versatility I'd put my money on the Plini or Nolly 👍
@@tappistrt Owning them both now, they can achieve a similar heavy tone for sure, but there are still key differences that make one more fit for some applications than the other. Naturally though I lean towards Archetype Nolly more because of the built in effects and the more versatile selection of amps.
Great video thanks - useful to hear side by side. Personally I'm a fan of Nolly for the versatility and tone on the high gain (as you mentioned a mid-range push of sorts). Although honestly I think all of the plugins would do the job (I trialled them all). Fantastic riffs by the way!
I think the NTS sits really nice in a mix and the Granophyre is really dope in how it really cuts through anything. I feel there is a big difference to how they feel to play, and I just love the response of the Nameless. I wish I preferred the plugins with more options and I have the Abasi but something about the Nameless makes it so fun to play!
Well done. Got the Plini and Nolly a view days ago. Great plugins and I am a Fractal AX8 guy! I'm curious about the Quad Cortex. Maybe I have to change from America to Finland ;) Hands down.
Thanks for doing this. Helped a lot. Also, thanks for intro, game me time to realize I should go to a different tab and take notes to listen blindly. Nameless was really favorite, don't have that one yet. Also, I was surprised by my own notes after listening blindly.
great work as always! Damn, I need to try your ABASI preset, I'm struggling to find a tone that I like with that second amp! plini and nameless rocked in the mix!
Nice, honest and objective video (refreshing.) Neural makes some of the best sounding plug-ins hands down (and I've tried all the other leading plug-ins.) That said, when you are listening back on the same relatively small speakers or headphones, I find that the tones start to all sound very similar with slightly different dynamics, like you said mid-range, etc. I was doing other work and listening- wasn't even sure you changed PI's.. That's how similar they sound (great playing too BTW!) With a little effort, you can quickly customize and get many of the other plug-ins to sound almost exactly like the others. The one exception I would say is the Cory Wang PI (not metal so not featured here.) I downloaded that one last night by mistake and it is just plain special. It also has some unique FX like Delay-y-y and especially "Shimmer" which sounds incredible. You click the hour glass on the right to call them up and wow! You can select the best cabinet and head and dial in your tone and very easily save the custom present, import IR's, etc. One improvement would be if you could save the custom cabinet/mic settings individually. When I save e.g., a Ribbon Mic on Cabinet 1., it is automatically applied to all the cabs- not idea if you want to click the cabs and have different tones while playing. It's not a huge difference but maybe as an update (are you listening Neural???) The PLINI PI is my #2 favorite. All of these PI's will likely sound incredible through the Quad Cortex as well- which will offer many other sonic advantages. One question since you seem very familiar with these plug ins- what is the best way to add a physical looper pedal into the mix? It's not ideal to add before the PI/Interface. Tried going from interface Audio Out to Looper IN but no luck. Running the Boss RC-500 looper and UMC204HD.
Plini sounded amazing they all sound great but depends on your taste. I like ambient sounds and dreamy cleans so it’s a no brainer on what I like the best.
Great video as always man. Appreciate your work. Beginning to think my issue lies more with my guitar/pickups. Using a cheap Ibanez 7 string that I've thrown some Titan 7's in. Jake's signature pickups .Sounds huge but gets a bit muddy and just doesn't have the same bite to it as your Jackson. Every video of yours I watch edges me closer to picking myself up a Misha signature Jackson haha.
@@KeyanHoushmandLive do you use a DI box at all? Been wondering if it's necessary. Im playing through a Focusrite 2i2 interface and only using amp sims.
This is a great comparison with great riffing and it was an inspiration for me to make an amp sim comparison of the last aquired Archtype Plini and Nolly vs. the free Amped Roots. I also tried the Abasi but I didn't like it. The sound was not my taste and I couldn't get a tone I like. Keep on the good work, enjoyed also the vid where you dialed in the Archetype Plini!
Welp, nameless was the best in this mix for me. The probably abasi, nolly, plini, then nts, and grano. Totally opposite from when I track. usually grano, nameless, plini.... so pretty cool to feel this for his style.
Sick demo man. Hard to pick a favorite. I own the plini, and like how smooth it sounds. It does lack some of that growl that the fortin and nts has. Side note, I'd love a mix run down video. Mainly how you got your drum tone and what processing you did to get it. It sounds super good!
Toss up between the plini and nts packs as to which sounds the best to my ear and my current headphones. I typically go for tones that are up front with a good deal of presence, something with a hi-fi quality to the top end. I don't like guitar mixs that sound distant or pushed back in a mix, even if they're super chunky. In reality, all the amp sims sound very very similar but it's really just about picking out the frequencies you like the best, and those two amps came across as something I'd happily use without tweaking much at all. The nameless sounds very good too but I think it's just got a little too much high end going on to the point of being a little harsh, where as the NTS has a little less but sort of hits a sweet spot. Again, very hard to tell a difference, it may take some people multiple listens to hear it but you can catch it if you keep swapping back and forth between the sims during the guitar-only parts.
Great video!! They all practically sound the same in the mix. Even out of the mix theyre quite similar, the nameless seems to have more lowend thump/chunk to it. The abasi and nts have weird "hollow mids" Edit: just got to where you mention the abasi had the most low aggressive chunk. Hmm. I never have enough lows, would you say the abasi has the most as some would call it, "balls"? Subbed a while back btw!
Thanks for the continuous quality content! What's your take on the importance of IRs in creating a solid tone that sits well in the mix? I've got Archetype Nolly, but I'm not quite satisfied with the tones I get. Should I buy Nameless, or am I better off investing in IRs and using them with the Nolly?
Change up your IRs and see how it goes. The nolly amp is very midrangey, so maybe an IR that’s slightly scooped and a bit more present in the high end would pair well with the nolly. The overall tone of Nolly is a little bit more balanced than the nameless, it’s not as harsh.
@@Harmi-XD for sure. I do have decent Reverb/delay vst's, but I do wish they had more pedals from the others in the omega. I'll go through the trials and kind of see where I lay. I love the darkglass and parallax for my mediocre bass stuff. I have a Kemper and love my tone from it, but kind of missing an easy metal tone from something like this.
I already own nameless but omega keeps calling to me still. I hate Neural because they're all awesome but somewhat unique that I want them all lol. I wouldn't trade nameless for omega, but I probably wouldn't trade omega for nameless had I bought it first after playing with the demo for a few days. Get the demos and play em both. Whichever one you end up with, I'm sure you'll be happy
@@Spoofaged I totally get that! Bought the Darkglass suite, loved it. Then the Parallax came out and I had to have that. While my Kemper gives me most of my tones, having an easy vst to get straight to massive metal tones for when I want to go there sounds great. I just got the omega a go and will do the others shortly. Appreciate your advice and input!
Haters gonna hate... If there was a video that 100% showed you a how to get free money, some handful of dumbasses will dislike it. Welcome to TH-cam lol
The Abasi was really good sounding on the single note riff but the with the Chords there's this high frequency thing that I find very fatiguing. The Omega was not as bright as I was expecting compared to the other plugins. The Plini surprised me the most especially with the Nolly right afterwards where I'd say the Plini had more "growl" to it and the Nolly was a bit smoother which you'd initially think it would be the opposite. The nolly sounds a bit wider then the Plini though. The NTS is great but compared to everything else it just doesn't sound or do enough different that I'd consider picking it up since I already have Nolly, Omega and Nameless ATM. Good video man!
Thanks mate, this really helped me make my decision. And with the black Friday 50% sale on now, I brought three! NTS, Nolly, and the Darkglass for my bass. Cheers dude!

Yip, hard to choose between Nameless and Nolly. Nolly is more flexible, but I think Nameless might win for _that_ tone, but it's more focused/limited.
I have the nameless and molly, they provide plenty options!
Thanks again Keyan. Great Demo and Video, as always. You helped me so much to get an awesome tone out of my plini, nolly and NTS plugin. Keep on :)
Thanks for watching dude!
Nameless and Nolly together in a mix would be the way for me, I think. I like the bite in the nameless, and the thickness in the Nolly
Haven’t tried that yet, maybe I should
They're both more similar than you're assuming. Check this out:
th-cam.com/video/EKu_QkjAuew/w-d-xo.html
I’d love a QC one day
@@KeyanHoushmandLive Have you used double tracking here or is it a one guitar mono track. Thanks!
damn man u dont know how helpfull this is, thank you so much brother
No worries dude
WOW Such an awesome comparison! I like the NTS and the Nameless the most! Your skills are outstanding, as always!
Thanks for doing this. Helped a lot. Also, thanks for intro, game me time to realize I should go to a different tab and take notes to listen blindly. Nameless was really favorite, don't have that one yet. Also, I was surprised by my own notes after listening blindly.
thanks for this, based on the video the abasi sounds best to me.
great work as always!
Damn, I need to try your ABASI preset, I'm struggling to find a tone that I like with that second amp!
plini and nameless rocked in the mix!
Plini and nameless are awesome
They all sound great! Currently testing the Nolly and really digging it
I saw a thornhill jumper and clicked immediately without even looking at the title 😂. However this video is damn good as per usual my man!
just got the Nameless and i love it!
Nameless is awesome!
Plini, Abasi, Nolly, Nameless, Granophyre, NTS but really they are all excellent.
They are all fantastic
dude...found your channel today and its really awesome. Its kinda my level of playing skills and your explanations are great! Thumbs up
Plini, Nolly and Granophyre were tops for me. Had that super clear broad midrange thing going on. I'll take all three! :D
Great stuff, so informative. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks again dude!
That's how similar they sound (great playing too BTW!)
With a little effort, you can quickly customize and get many of the other plug-ins to sound almost exactly like the others.
In the mix (single note) :
01:51 Plini
02:20 Nolly
02:49 Nameless
03:18 Abasi
03:47 NTS
04:16 Granophyre
Farout, I own most of these and the Nameless still absolutely owns.
Nameless is very articulate
I agree nameless is still their best one
Granophyre and Nts surprised the heck out of me they sound so cool!
Wow dude, your song is beautyful. Sad that there's is no more music like yours.
the guitar tones sound awesome but i love that bass sound and how it blends so well with the guitars!
Try getting the best signal you can out of your guitar into the interface. New strings, good setup, good cables etc
@@KeyanHoushmandLive do you use a DI box at all? Been wondering if it's necessary. Im playing through a Focusrite 2i2 interface and only using amp sims.
Thanks for the effort!
Thinking about buying my first one. Just using free tools and i´m starting to become a virtual gearhead :D
I love the plini, and nolly, and the surprise was the Gran. Great vid
For me it's either the Nameless or the Omega.
Most of my drum tone is taken from the nolly drum mix videos
For the big chords and such, I though Nolly and Plini sounded the best. But for the one note riffs I was digging the Abasi one
Different strokes for different folks
Thank you very much, it is helpful for me.
I have to decide between nolly, plini, fortin!
, Everybody has
particular sound.
Everyone seems to like the Plini nolly and nameless
@@KeyanHoushmandLive by the way, the riff is very cool, I hope for the complete song!
Awesome comparison-thanks for this!
Great video!!
They all practically sound the same in the mix. Even out of the mix theyre quite similar, the nameless seems to have more lowend thump/chunk to it. The abasi and nts have weird "hollow mids"
Edit: just got to where you mention the abasi had the most low aggressive chunk. Hmm.
I never have enough lows, would you say the abasi has the most as some would call it, "balls"?
Subbed a while back btw!
Disembodied Studios the Abasi has this weird low end boost switch
Kind of torn between the Nameless and the Omega (which surprised me). Really great video, man!
if you were to only get one, get the nameless, however if you get the omega and use the pedals from the Nameless, it sounds great
@@Harmi-XD for sure.
They’re both great in their own way
I already own nameless but omega keeps calling to me still.
Loved the Abasi. Great riffs
i know your playing is not the focus of these videos but man u never fail kill it on the riffs!
I don't understand people who gave dislikes. what they don't like??
I wish I knew
Haters gonna hate... If there was a video that 100% showed you a how to get free money, some handful of dumbasses will dislike it. Welcome to TH-cam lol
Stupidity and dumpness will always be there... :D
Good video man!
the problem with the Abasi plugin is probably because of the tight knob, he shouldn't have kept it at 100% at least for the chords
Great job man! :) Also surprised about the Plini and the NTS! In my opinion they and also the Nolly sit best in the mix....cheers, KrisZ
Nameless for pure hi gain heaviness, Nolly for overall package.
Thanks mate, this really helped me make my decision. And with the black Friday 50% sale on now, I brought three! NTS, Nolly, and the Darkglass for my bass.
Cheers dude!
heading over to buy Nolly now haha
Damn, the Nameless immediately is the tone I always wanted to hear!!!
Omega slaps 💪
Great job!
Omega sits great!
Fantastic comparison video, man... great job laying it all out, your tune and the sims all sounded amazing! Btw, what monitors are you using?
I have Nameless and Parallax (I have a physical Darkglass B7K ultra pedal, and stack it with Parallax). I tried Abasi Archetype but it wasn't my thing. Going to try Nolly Archetype this weekend
Thanks so much for doing this. I'm having a hard time choosing between Nolly and Abasi myself. I like the extra growl and slightly different feel that the Abasi has, but I think Nolly is the most well rounded. Thoughts?
I Love the Nolly and the NTS. Covers almost everything I need to do, and I use pedals in front of the interface for the rest.
My thoughts exactly. Honorable mention to Fortin NTS which for me would probably be best choice for my Hard Core Crap.Need 'em all ,or a combo of 2. Abasi + NTS.
Good to see a fellow metal guitarist using FL Studio! :)
I think Nolly and Plini for your your style of riffs in the video.
