I think she is close to 50 years old and is still one of the worlds best stage singers. I dont believe for a minute that anything she does is accidental
Lara is such a master of her instrument that whatever you're hearing is exactly what she wants you to hear...If her mouth is closed, it is a personal choice that she makes because she feels it will get across perhaps the tenderness of that moment!... and when she opens up, that too is a choice she makes to benefit the performance. Some songs, you can't hear her breath while other songs you can hear her emotional gasps! She's all about the performance and she doesn't mind seeming frail or distraught if that's what the song calls for...
I discovered her like 10 years ago,and she is,for me,the best singer ever. Her voice is magical. And it's never about vocal range. It's all about how the singer makes you feel.Mariah,Whitney and Celine are great singers, but they can't trigger my emotions like Lara can.I feel satisfied that the world is finally discovering this amazing singer and beautiful soul.
I’m not really into the kind music that involves gown wearing and orchestras etc., but I have to say that Lara Fabian goes beyond all that with her ability to embody the story of the song. Many similar artists are not song writers, they just interpreted others’ songs (often very well), but I think her songwriting helps, as it gives her that deeper connection to the music. Her technical ability is a given - she is as good as anyone and better than most - but only a few singers I’ve heard actually have that ability to sincerely emote the content of the lyrics in the way that she does.
This song is beautiful in itself but Lara just takes it to whole different level with her performance. I’ve always loved the way she expresses herself onstage- dramatic, intense and powerful. Its as if she bares her very soul out there and the sheer intensity of the atmosphere she creates feels like its materialising that pressure often leaving me breathless. She’s easily among my fav vocalists of all times, right up there with the likes of So Hyang. Its unfortunate that they aren’t as well known as some of their peers in the mainstream music industry.
i always portrait this song as literally a woman confronting her lover , first calmly asking why? what did she do wrong? while graduately commanding her lover to give her answer to her questions in order to understand/live with the fact that he is cheating on her. the little `pauze`where she runs back and forth seems like the `end `of the conversation and her then coming back even stronger to claim the answers she has been asking.
For a female vocalist, this is the absolute perfection or close to it and then bring in her passion, her acting, beauty and passion. She's the complete perfect package. I absolutely love her and in my 50ies, I just begun listening to her music. WHY WASNT she pushed out more during the early 2000s is beyond me. Was it because Celine was taking all the space? Of course she deserved it but maybe Lara deserved it as well. I'm thinking her managers completely fucked up or she wasn't willing to sacrifice certain life thingies. If your reading this Lara....I absolutely love you!! You've achieved the absolute ceiling in your artistic field. So many aspire to reach those heights. You've achieved them!! You can be proud and know that you ARE one on the best female singing artists of all time!!!! "heart"
Check her singing Malade, Carusso, Adagio... I'm surprise people in America do not know her, she is the best singer in the world. Her italian side (Sicilian mom) always comes out in her performances with that special emotion that makes you fall in love with her

Lara have a mix of styles, classic , pop and rock. How can she mix so much feelings and don't crack.. what a danger situation, Can't understand that And like you said, she sings like if it was the first time.. she's unrated unfortunately. I love your reaction, and your explanation about the performance
Thank you for the great reaction. There are so many psychological reasons why people sing the way they do. Some people (especially those who are singing songs they have written) have a depth of experience and feeling and many reasons why they present the material the way they do. It seems this song is about betrayal and anger but also forgiveness and a choice to be the better person in doing the forgiving. That means integrity and self control and not just living for oneself or ones' feelings. Even though the vow was broken by another, she can keep a higher vow. But in doing that, it requires control and a choice and restraint. Maybe that is why she sings that line that way and while she belts the emotion, she comes back to being the one in control (as opposed to Je Suis Malade, even Adagio where she is pleading). Just an observation from a long time musician and psychologist. The interlude is also dramatic. She acts the parts she is saying. Just because she chooses to let the other person go, etc., doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. She is just bigger than the pain. Beautiful song and performance, as usual. She is SO brilliant in writing and performing and is in perfect control of everything that is her instrument. I do think the sob at the end is a bit of emotion but it shows up at the time she is trying to control it, as it always does. Letting out the feelings allows her to continue to sing without them messing up her ability to sing and use her voice and body the way she wants. I'll stop here. LOL
Lara Fabian is half Italian and half Belgian. She moved to Canada when she was 19 and became Canadian in 1995. She wrote that song with Walter Afanasieff who had the musical partner of Mariah Carey for years. She signed her record deal with Sony music US at that time. And yes Josh Groban did a cover of her song:)
Another fabulous vocal performance ... and she has writing credits on this one. I like Josh Groban's version as well. I love the technique of walking away and then returning with fire.
Thank you Josh, and keep reacting to Lara. I used to listen to her songs on CD and on TH-cam, and then I went to her concert in Helsinki a few years ago, and I was glad that I was sitting at the back rows because the strength and the power of the emotion she conveyed... I don't know if I could have taken it if I had been closer. And her voice - it sounded better than on the recorded versions, because it was really there, live. I didn't think she could sound better live but she really did. She is really a performer. I felt I had been listening to one of the world's best. What a great feeling.
At 17:50 Lara does something EXTREMELY correct and professional when it comes to singing. After she sings something and is ready to sing the next verse, she holds her breath just before she starts to sing again from the last word she sang to the next upcoming word. Then she quickly breathes in to start the next verse and you can actually hear her breathing at that moment. That prepares her airway to have the right amount of air in her lungs to adequately sing what is next. It's a way to perfectly calibrate your breath for the next verse. Good singers do that if the next verse is only a few seconds or moment away. But most people don't even notice that while watching a singer.
Have you heard Lara Fabian singing Perdere L`amore? If not you are missing out some of the best song ever and her interpretation of it is ...well i just dont know how to describe it..there are no words for it

@@DoggieFosters I agree with you. It's more useful to hear about technique...we can capture the emotion, we don't need people to tell us that she is wonderful; we know that already! I don't like and I don't feel honest for people to create a channel where they watch a person performing and they just say things that anyone can see in order to make a buck without doing anything.
