Such a good song! I remember going into my Creative Writing class in High school in 1975 - 10th Grade. A senior from the class before me had written the lyrics to it on the chalk board, so I got to read all of the words before i ever heard it. Wow!
Elton's early vocals have such a raw emotional edge to them. His later songs he was smoother yet slicker in using those emotions. That's why they call him "Sir". ☮💙🎶
In case you haven't heard Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac passed away today. Please review "Little Lies" . She does a wonderful job of singing the lead on it.

The good news is that you can listen to a lot more Elton John songs than you have to date and you will not be disappointed. It's astonishing what he and Bernie Taupin accomplished, almost all of which in a handful of years in the 70s.
This is one of my top favorite Elton songs. There's just so many. It's a song about someone that is bored with life. He can't walk away from the family plan (business) so he releases balloons and wishes he can fly away.
My father was a HUGE Elton John fan, so I had access to all of his albums when I’ve was a young teenager. The songs from this album and the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album will always bring up fond memories of my dad and my teens!
I am a huge fan of Elton John! In fact, I was a fan before I even knew who Elton John was. I had heard a song on Solid Gold called Empty Garden, I fell in love with song and I had no clue who sang it or who Elton John was. A couple years later, we were living in Spain, my dad was Air Force, and I think Nikita came out and finally I knew who sang Empty Gardens and who Elton John was. I knew many of his songs, I just hadn’t started identifying songs by singers yet. Many people seem to forget Empty Gardens, this song is iconic and in memory of John Lennon who had recently been killed.
I think you'll enjoy one of his biggest hits, "Philadelphia Freedom," and he recorded one of the greatest remakes of the rock era, The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," a song he called one of the greatest songs ever written.
Since Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac) passed away today, I think a fitting tribute to her would be, playing a song she did in 1973 from the album Mystery to Me. The song is, “Why.” It seems so appropriate…and you’ll LOVE it.
My favorite Elton John song, so the song was written in 1971. Elton would go on to have a son born on Christmas day who is 11 years old now, but he named him Zachary Jackson Levon.❤❤
R.I.P. Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac singer, age 79 thank you for your awesome vocals, song writing, and faithfulness to your fans over the years, you made alot of ppl happy and get through some hard times with your music and tenderness and will be missed and condolences to your family and friends
One of my favorite songs of all time. Almost makes my cry every time. A song, to me, about living a scripted life rooted in expectations. The brief passage about his son, Jesus, tells much about who Levon is. He "shall" be Levon. He "must" be Levon. The younger generation revolts. In the 60s and 70, much of the youth, my mother included, wanted to "take a balloon and go sailing..." many did, one way or another. Brilliant song!
Need to do one for the amazing Christine McVie, who recently passed away. May I suggest her biggest solo hit? Got A Hold On Me. She was a truly gifted singer, songwriter, musician. R.I.P.
I remember first hearing Elton John when I was about 15 or so.....he has written and performed so beautifully for so many years. I am now 65 and retired and he is still rocking. What an incredible artist, man and legend. I will forever love Elton John's music....
OMG! this brings back memories from my teenage years when I was between 13-17 I listened to SO much Elton John music all the time. My cousins also loved his music and one cousin was so obsessed with Elton's music that he learned to played piano by ear and learned to play many Elton songs which was amazing. This whole Madman Across the Water album is amazing.
I was luck enough to see Elton 4 times in concert. Levon is my absolute favorite. Madman across the water is in my opinion one of the best albums I have ever owned (wore out 3 albums, 4 8-tracks, 4 cassettes and have managed to wear out 4 cds). Now I have him on my playlist. You guys HAVE to review Indian Sunset in THIS album. Thanks for all you do it makes an old woman smile!!
Another interesting song to give a listen to is also on this album. The song 'Holiday Inn'. It's the first song where the Elton John Band finally plays together (Nigel Olsson, Dee Murray, and Davey Johnstone) and describes Elton, Nigel, and Dee on the road together for their first tour of the USA, when they first hit it big.
I've been a loyal diehard Elton John since 1974.....i LOVE ALL his music and his voice from 1969 to 1981. The whole decade of the 70's are the absolute finest of Elton John music. Bar none it was the greatest era of his entire career. Yes he had great hits after 1981 but this era of his music was above and beyond the elitest. ❤
What I always got from the song it ways just about boredom and somebody wanting to be somewhere else doing something different. The way it is written composed and performed makes sound much deeper. That's what makes it a masterpiece!
I grew up listening to Elton. Always loved his music. My grandson surprised me with tickets to his farewell concert in Santa Clara; it was fantastic. It's heartwarming to see young people like you enjoying his music so much. It is timeless. Great reaction, guys. 👍👍
This song!!! Love , love, love this song!! I have seen Elton John twice in concert! In 1976 and the early 1980’s!! Tiny Dancer and this song Levon always pulled at my heart strings!! I love all his songs but these two have a little extra to them!!
One of my best songs from Elton John that I love. This song drew me to notice Elton as one of my favorite artist....the whole album, "Madman Across The Water," and every song on the album is great!!!! I have the album and play it from time to time....Excellent!!!
Madman is my favourite Elton John album, has been for years, can't understand why nobody ever mentions Holiday Inn or Rotten Peaches, two of my favourites from the album.
A sad announcement from the music world. Christine McVie (the other female) singer and keyboard player from Fleetwood Mac has "unexpectedly" passed away at age 79. From the news account, she hadn't been ill or sick, but something changed in the last week. I'm sure more details will become available as the facts come to light. Immensely talented as both a singer and songwriter for Fleetwood Mac, Christine also played keyboards as well. She always lived in the shadow of the beautiful Stevie Nicks, but Stevie would be the first to tell you, that Christine was a great talent, and a wonderful friend. God Bless
This is a huge loss as she was one of the biggest talents in music history as well as a class act. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends and she will be greatly missed!
I love this song, but then again there is not an Elton John song that I dislike. I have loved him since I was like 10 1970. He's amazing!!! When I hear him sing I get goose bumps and tears flow..
His band is so underrated. Davey is killer on guitar and mandolin and Nigel Olssen is really a great drummer. Also, the symphonic arrangements this period by Paul Buckmaster are just brilliant.
I've LOVED this song since 1989 when the current hit radio station I was announcing the morning show for changed from CHR to a CACR, (classic adult contemporary rock,) format. The first te I heard this it was 5:40 am & I was running automated during my show prep. I stopped making the parody commercial and literally dropped my headphones on the control board as soon as I heard that 1st line "Levon wears his hiis war would like a crown, and calls his child Jesus, because he likes the name." I fell in love with this song again when Jon Bon Jovi did a cover for a tribute album called "two rooms: the songs of Bernie Taupin and Elton John." I'm not usually a fan of covers or tribute albums, but y'all REALLY would love the Jon Bon Jovi cover of "Levon" and the Sinead O'Connor version of "Sacrifice" from the "Two Rooms" tribute. Thank you SO MUCH for doing one of my all time favorites. I REALLY hope you do the Jon Bon Jovi cover. Love y'all so much for bringing music of this quality to people! God bless.
This is my second favorite Elton John/Bernie Taupin album, Tumbleweed Connection with that great song, Country Comfort (which I urge you to listen to)will always be first. Rod Stewart did a cover of that song on Gasoline Alley, one of his best albums (He had a band called the Faces that made some really rollicking good music).Today, that kind of music would be called Americana, back then it was just the British playing country rock, and it was really my favorite kind of thing. Elton, an Englishman for God's sake, sang a song called My Father's Gun, about a southern farm boy who fought for the south in the civil war, an incredibly good though rather sad song. Even the Rolling Stones did some very good songs in this sub genre with an album called Beggars Banquet, and I loved that too. What a great time to be young! Late teens early 20s... If you can find a Rolling Stones song called Far Away Eyes, give it a listen.
You picked a winner here. The whole Madman Across the Water album is phenomenal.

Christine contributed songs to Fleetwood Mac for several years before Lindsey and Stevie joined the band. Some suggestions:
- From the "Future Games" album - "Morning Rain"
- From the "Bare Trees" album - "Homeward Bound"
- From the "Mystery To Me" album - "Why"

"Ticking" by Sir Elton is an underrated masterpiece. Really sad but brilliant.

This is my favorite Elton John song and I first heard it when I was ten years old. Great choice!
hiii Jesus loves you:)
His piano in "The ballad of Danny Bailey" is just amazing! You should check it out.
I grew up on Elton John music, and lately I've been appreciating what a great musician young Elton was. In the 70's he was brilliant.
I think you'll enjoy one of his biggest hits, "Philadelphia Freedom," and he recorded one of the greatest remakes of the rock era, The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," a song he called one of the greatest songs ever written.
Even after hearing this song a million times, still…chills and tears
This is on the "Madman Across the Water" album. You should do the title song, too!
Elton John has introduced us to classical music via rock and roll. Long live Elton!
Empty Garden - his song for John Lennon. One of his best. He doesn't perform it very often because he gets too emotional when singing it.
Who doesn’t love Levon helm? Nobody, nobody is the answer.
Try "Indian Sunset". You will not be disappointed. Great reactions.
This one owes A LOT to those counterpoint strings.
R.I.P. Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac singer, age 79 thank you for your awesome vocals, song writing, and faithfulness to your fans over the years, you made alot of ppl happy and get through some hard times with your music and tenderness and will be missed and condolences to your family and friends
Levon is a great song from Sir Elton 👍🏽
I just love this song! Levon has always been a favorite of mine❤
One of my favorite Elton songs! ❤❤
One of my favorite songs and artists. I named my orange tabby cat Levon. He's very vocal and answers me everytime I call his name.
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is the Elton song I keep waiting for...
"Someone Saved my Life Tonight"
When I was 16 (1971) my girlfriend played piano and she introduced me to Elton John. For me, this is the best record of his entire career.
You must listen to Elton's 'Take Me To The Pilot." I think it was the best of the early Elton years.
Boston at last! And the plane's touching down...
"Funeral for a Friend"-"Love Lies Bleeding", best Elton ever! Big sound!
This is one of the best Elton songs no doubt. Classic vocals piano everything that encompasses Elton John
Giving you a random hello and hoping you had a great day and to smile 😃 😃😃
I grew up listening to Elton. Always loved his music. My grandson surprised me with tickets to his farewell concert in Santa Clara; it was fantastic. It's heartwarming to see young people like you enjoying his music so much. It is timeless. Great reaction, guys. 👍👍
This song!!! Love , love, love this song!! I have seen Elton John twice in concert! In 1976 and the early 1980’s!! Tiny Dancer and this song Levon always pulled at my heart strings!! I love all his songs but these two have a little extra to them!!
Tiny Dancer may be my favorite. Tough call with Elton !
Bernie writes the lyrics, and then Elton puts the music to his words. Amazing songs from this collaboration.
I love this song, but then again there is not an Elton John song that I dislike. I have loved him since I was like 10 1970. He's amazing!!! When I hear him sing I get goose bumps and tears flow..
Hi Kathy. How are ya? Love this channel
His band is so underrated. Davey is killer on guitar and mandolin and Nigel Olssen is really a great drummer. Also, the symphonic arrangements this period by Paul Buckmaster are just brilliant.
Elton John is great, I have all his music 🎶 This one is my favorite. Thanks guys for playing this song.
God bless.
If you haven't done it already
Definitely check out
Elton John
Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
Great song. You really need to explore songs fromhis album "Tumbleweed Connection" - including "Country Comfort" and "Amoreena"....
Amoreena is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Amoreena is one of my favorites 💓
My favorite Elton John song! Thanks for finally listening to it!
Sir Elton is an absolute treasure, his catalog is so varied and interesting, always grabs your ear and keeps you. Great choice.
I totally agree with your assessment, Tom. Sir Elton is a deep dive. 💞
Can never get through this without sobbing!! Beautiful!! 👍♥️
