I love your way of positively encouraging people to just try quilting! This is something that anyone could accomplish in a short period of time. What a great gift it would make. With just a border added, it would be a great nursing home quilt. I had a friend who had never quilted and I mentored her in making a brick quilt out of flannels for her husband for Christmas. It is his all-time favorite thing and it was one of the simplest quilts I’ve ever seen. In order to pass on the skill, people have to think they’re capable of doing it. Congratulations to you for giving them that empowerment!
Everybody is going to hate me for this, but coming from a garment construction background, I always iron the seams open. I've never had any problems doing that.
I love to sew. I've made many huge quilts & several lap quilts for seniors. It's a great creative outlet that I love to share. Quilts are made with love & passion.
I love the look of the quilt and how easy it looks. Warm and cosy colours. I like that you put a pile of fabric on the one side of the sewing machine and the other pile on the other side and bring them together to sew. A great idea. Thank you.
Oh.my.goodness. I 'sew' needed to see and hear this. Sometime we make our creative journey harden than it needs to be. There are enough stressful things in the world today and our creativity should not be one of them. We should be enjoying the blessing of how important it is to make something from our hearts with our hands. Thank you.
Love that you said, we are all busy but need to make time to be creative. Love what you did. Just recently started sewing, never used to like sewing. Now l just love it.
Some post-it notes or even mailing labels can also help order the piles. Younger family members sometimes try to “help” me and some written reminders can be very helpful. Love the plaid fabric and colours. Great for autumn.

Awesome! This is the fastest quilt I’ve seen that uses fat quarters. I have a ton of stash I want to use up and I’m going to use this idea so much! Thank you!!
Thank you, Kathie! It is great for stash so just give it a try! And if you want to, please send us a picture of the result at pictures@justhands-on.tv to share with our community! Happy sewing!
Thank you for making a quilt top look so easy. I've had my fat quarters sitting there staring at me for some time. This has given me the nerve to try it. I've always wanted to sew a quilt and maybe now I'll do it!
Just a note...in the UK a fat quarter is 20in by 22in but in the US a fat quarter is 18in by 22in This is a 💟💟BRILLIANT💟💟 tutorial Thank you for helping me find my motivation again and the pleasure of accomplishment through uncomplicated means
Thank you for sharing :) I have never seen anyone sew a piece of fabric at the beginning of the project. I assume that's so the machine wont eat the very edge of fabric! Great idea! I will use this!
The folded-in-half piece before the first square is called a header. It you use another at the end, that's a ender or footer. The advantage of using a header is that there is a tension on the top and bottom threads before the first stitch on your pieces (so they aren't "eaten" as you suggested, especially triangle points), and because the header is two thicknesses, just like the pieces you're joining, the foot doesn't have to "climb" from the plate up to the fabric, which can cause problems as well.
I have been wanting to make a quilt. This looks like a great 1st quilt to do. It seems easy. So glad I found your tutorial. Your directons very well explained. I saved it to my favorites. Thanks.

it just seems kind of obvious that if you cut really big squares that you can make a quilt top fairly quickly . I guess this is a good video for someone who has never made a quilt before .

Hi, Pam. Sometimes I like to speed up or slow down a video, and you can too, like this, it's easy! Go to the little "cog" icon on the bottom of the video and click on it. A little drop-down menu will show up and you can slow down the tutorial. It slows her voice down as well, but it's very helpful to slow it down or speed it up as needed. Also, if you click on the video itself, you can pause it and click on it again to play it again. One other thing I find helpful when I want to re-watch the last five or ten seconds that I just watched, is, on your computer keyboard, tap on the forward or backward arrow keys to rewind five or ten seconds. Pressing the arrow key more than once makes it go back just a little bit more. I hope this helps. Have a blessed day!
Can I jask you the quilt name just behind you with the flower in the center! I fall in love with the rectangles and the flowers!! I went on your side until 4 years ago and didn’t saw it! Thanks.

Hello, that quilt is a pretty straightforward strip-pieced block to sew that gives amazing results, it is called Chop Suey. You can set blocks traditionally and separated them by sashing. Also, you can just sewn together to create one large quilt top. Or as Valerie did, you can set the blocks on point, which she separated with sashing, cornerstones and setting triangles, so perhaps a setting that requires a little bit more expertise. You can watch Valerie's video here - watch.justhands-on.tv/videos/taster-chop-suey-with-valerie-nesbitt Hope this helps! Happy sewing!
Hi Leslie. You are using American size Fat 1/'4s so you need to adjust the size of your squares so that you can get four out of each piece - the project gets pieced the same way but will be slightly smaller using 9" squares.
She explained the cutting, figure out the largest size you can get out of your smallest fat quarter. (which is generally a 9 inch square) and cut 4 squares that size, from each fat quarter.

Hello,
I have recently started watching your videos I really enjoy your technique.
I was wondering what the little tab of fabric is at the top of all your stitching?
Katy Lynn me too... 😀 I’m a complete novice when it comes to quilting and still trying to understand how she is putting the pieces together...
I have sane question lol
I would still get the squares muddled up, but that is no criticism of your method. ❤️
What size/measurements do you cut the fat quarters down to?
Help! Just bought a sewing machine. Not the best at it. I have made pillows and curtains now. Can you tell me what the best design is to make for a beginner? I'm going to give it a shot.
Love this way❣️❣️ Can you tell me the name of the block of the blue/white quilt behind you and where I can get the pattern? Thank you.

Eso lo sabe hacer cualquiera q tenga idea de coser, no es tan complicado
yeah nice..... tops only are easy and quick to do. I wish you had shown adding batting, backing and quilting it and then the binding. (would take a few hours or days then) :-)

My problem is I over think & coming up with a color pattern
What is the fabric and purpose at the beginning of your sewing each time?
Can someone tell me why she places a patch of fabric in the machine before sewing?
What is the purpose of the bit of fabric at the start before sewing squares together?

Where does pressing the seams come into play here. Fun ways to use up way too much fabric!
My fat quarters are 18/21 I can't get four ten by tens only two. Am I missing something ?
Hi Leslie. You are using American size Fat 1/'4s so you need to adjust the size of your squares so that you can get four out of each piece - the project gets pieced the same way but will be slightly smaller using 9" squares.
I’m not sure including the ironing and cutting that this quilt can be made in the allocated time. Great example of webbing.
But, this does not include the cutting of the fabric. Great idea though!
She explained the cutting, figure out the largest size you can get out of your smallest fat quarter. (which is generally a 9 inch square) and cut 4 squares that size, from each fat quarter.
