Loved this video. It came at the right time for me. I kept my rap artist son’s hoodies and tshirts from his younger days and I am hand quilting a queen sized quilt. It is reversible. So on the back I have all the hoodies which still have pockets and zippers attached. The front will have photos. I asked him what colour he wants as his dominant colour. He said cream with some green. I was shocked and asked what African child wants cream 😂 usually it’s the earth colours. But I bought the colours and I’m doing it because that is what he wants. The back part is done and I’m busy with the front and adding the photos in a sequence of his childhood and career. He is visiting from his home overseas and saw the quilt for the first time. He was so emotional, seeing his mother hand sewing every single stitch. I think this will be such a comfort to him when I am no longer here. This is the best quilt video because it shows the joy of a quilt recipient. Thank you.
This is so real. I’ve definitely held my family hostage and forced them to talk about the quilted elephant in the room. These guys’ answers are fascinating. It’s interesting what they notice. Your son liked that the quilt was like a nurturing hug from mom. Your husband emphasized that he appreciated all of your quilts for the creative energy you put in them. Also he knows which one you’re working on. Very sweet.
Thank you for posting this! I am looking at how to plan a volunteer firefighter quilt and your husband’s is perfect! Thank your husband for his service! My hubby is on year 29 as a volunteer firefighter, but the quilt is for a friend in year 35, and we have several more friends to add to the list of long-timers who need a quilt!
By far, that was the most enjoyable, genuine video that I've seen in a long time. If I wasn't smiling, I was laughing. You're the best, keep em.coming! Really liked meeting your family. Great video!
I too enjoyed your family and quilts. I will say I've made my son's many quilts over the years. Some of them ended up being used as tarps. Tacked to outside walls. Broke my heart. One son asked for a quilt. It is sitting in my laundry room. It's been washed 3 times. I don't think he's ever used it.
I watch quilting videos ALL THE TIME, and this may be my favorite yet. It is truly helpful to get a man's opinion and I'm so glad to hear that they actually liked getting quilts as gifts. Validation for sure. Keep on quilting ladies!
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon your video, but I am so glad I did. It was so wonderful to watch your husband and son speak so genuinely about your quilts. The love that was emanating from them as they spoke about their favorite quilt(s) was wonderful to watch. I could have sat through 100 more questions. Thank you for sharing your family and it was extremely helpful as I am going to embark on making my son-in-law a quilt for Christmas. He's 6'4" and the advice your husband and son gave about making the quilt long enough was PERFECT! I also am taking their advice about using flannel because your son said it was soft. :)
Welcome to my channel! I am so glad you enjoyed this video and found it helpful! My son is 6’5” and husband is 6’1” so getting quilts long enough is important! Jared’s favorite quilts are the ragtime quilts made with flannel. Remember no florals! Lol!
Not often one gets this many chuckles watching a quilting video! I loved it - two fantastic characters who obviously adore you😍 Interesting that they both immediately mentioned practical considerations like size, weight and handling properties when asked what we should think of before making a quilt for a man. But I don't reckon ANYone would prefer a stiff quilt, unless for the wall. Drapey snuggly quilts all the way!
This was very helpful and entertaining! 1.Comfort (find out his preferences: fabric options and weight) 2. Specific use (where does he want to use it) 3.Personalized to his interest 4.Low maintenance 5.Large enough to cover
I "accidently" followed each of these rules for my husband. I added a label that says "this is my Hallmark Movie blanket" it's a little wider than most, and its long enough to go from his chest and over his feet. I made it from mismatched denim blocks with black sashing, and used lux fleece for the backing, It is exactly the right combo for warmth without weight. He loves it and wasn't expecting it. He was shocked.
You are sooo cute and your guys are really special! Really enjoyed the video and the first hand information. I chuckled all the way through. It really made my day. I loved the special ingredient (luuuuuuuv) and your sons explanation of can you ever have too many quilts. The bloopers were the best!!!!! LOL, still laughing.
My husband and I watched this together. It was so funny. He agrees with their comments, especially the part about it being long enough. He likes his quilts to be heavy and wishes I would get done making gift quilts for all the family's new babies and make some for us. LOL! 🥰
This is the best video I ever saw. Thank you. ...I have to admit, these two characters are so much like my son and his hefty buddy from high school that I was amazed. The laugher, the bull dog! Playing with the dog! They even look like them. It was very nice to see, because my son is in heaven now and I’m smiling, knowing we will meet again and have a great time forever. Don’t feel sorry about this. I loved this video!
Thanks Deb! Keep the ragtime quilts in mind!!! Those are the most requested quilts in my family!! I am trying to get five made before Christmas! They are fast and you quilt as you go do you don’t have to pay to have them quilted!! My son and I both love to sleep under them!!!
This was one of the most enjoyable quilting videos I have ever watched. A big thank you to your son and husband, and your dog! Also, good info to think about when making a quilt for a guy :)
Loved hearing from them. My oldest son doesn't like quilts that are too "busy". There are so many different quilts you can make which is why we keep making them lol. And sometimes I hate to give them away unless I've made it special for someone I love. I made my 3 year old grandson one with Jeeps on it with a road fabric on the back for him to use as a playmat. I just finished his 6 year old sister one with unicorns and rainbows.
Love this video, love the quilts, love your dog, "can you have too many quilts ?" you asked......... yes ! on the other hand i don't have any quilts, WHY? Because I don't have the courage or the skills to start making one in case I ruin or waste the fabric 😯 so if you do have too many quilts you could always send one to me 😊😘👍👌💞😂😂😂😂 or at least give one to your little pup. Great video. Thankyou for sharing 😊
@Resell Hobo I love that idea, but I've just had a mass sort out and donated all unused, out grown clothes and bedding 😕😂 (just another excuse ) I've bought quite a lot of fabrics with intention to make a quilt and maybe I just need to get myself organised and start, I'd probably really enjoy it, I'm one of life's 'faffers' 😂..........I feel a new years resolution creeping up on me 😨😂😂😂😂 best wishes for a fabulously happy, healthy Christmas and New year xx
Joan, The pattern is from a book called "Take 5" by Kathy Brown. The pattern is called Plays Fair and Square. Here is a link (affiliate) for it: amzn.to/3DtDoQw I have made two quilts out of this book and I have really liked both quilts!

I just found you, what great videos, great family supporting you, never too many quilts! OH your sweet dear Boston Terrier, we are BT parent's too, our heart and soul!
Congrats on an outstanding video. I mean that literally…your video is unique among all those I’ve seen, and I love it! Your family seems wonderful, too. I’m now subscribed and am going back to binge watch your channel! Thank you so much!
Your husband and son are such good sports to do this video with you! It was so real and sweet. I'm planning to make a quilt for my adult son and want him to like it as much as your guys love your quilts. Oh, and the bloopers and Milo are adorable! Thank you.
Yes, I think they are pretty wonderful! They seem to enjoy it also. There will be another one with them coming out soon! I think it is really funny. They crack me up sometimes!
I LOVE this video. The men in your life are absolute sweethearts, and I found their answers to your questions very helpful, and wonderfully entertaining.
This is adorable! I'm making quilts for 2 teen boy grandsons and my son for Xmas and this actually reminded me that my son loves flannel. Ragtime here I come!!
What a crack up when you asked about getting a floral Quilt, loved it, 🤣🙃😂 and then hubby having weight on his Tummy 🤣, thank you this was great info and so natural.
What a great video that has taught me some good things before I make my son his quilt for Christmas! Lucky lady to have these gents in your life and lucky them to have such a loving wife and mother who puts her heart into projects for them!

The quilt on my design wall in this video is a pattern called "Plays Fair and Square". It is in a book called "Take 5: Quilts From Just 5 Fabrics" by Kim Brown.
That was just great, so entertaining and informative. It was fun to see you interact with your husband and son…even the pups had a part in your video.😊 I’ve made a lot of rag quilts and everyone loves them. Thanks for another great video, Michele!
Too many quilts? It has been such a blessing to give quilts away. Last year a house fire stripped a local family of everything, however there were no fatalities. House warming, college gift, a piece of me and my well wishes or love.
Love this video! I've only ever made one quilt for guy. He was getting rid of a bunch of blue jeans that he couldn't wear or they were really ripped up. So I got the jeans he'd tossed out and cut the denim into rectangles and made a quilt. He takes it camping or to the barn because it's pretty tough.
Love love love!!!😂❤ this is all really good info for us quilters, im really getting into quilting this year and that’s my next endeavor!! A man’s quilt.
This is precious!!! Secret ingredient is Luvvvv!! I love this interview!!!
Thanks!
You absolutely can not have too many quilts, but I agree with everything else. The bloopers are hilarious!
"Build" another quilt! LOL!!! Thanks! This was really funny and helpful!

Thank you!
Good info for quilters to make a quilt for the hubby! Those two are a funny pair! Especially the bloopers! 😀😀😀🌻🌻🌻
Hey Fern! They had a good time too!! I have watched it several times!!
Such handsome men because they smile so much.
I agree!!!
Found your video, getting ready to make a quilt for a guy... and this was so cute to watch! No floral, check lol. Your husband and son did great.
Thank you!
Great job on video 👍😊 love your family 💕😊 great 👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
love listening to the men's comments . thanks
Thanks!
That was just great, so entertaining and informative. It was fun to see you interact with your husband and son…even the pups had a part in your video.😊 I’ve made a lot of rag quilts and everyone loves them. Thanks for another great video, Michele!
Thanks Barbara! They are a definite favorite for many!!!
Too many quilts? It has been such a blessing to give quilts away. Last year a house fire stripped a local family of everything, however there were no fatalities. House warming, college gift, a piece of me and my well wishes or love.
I have loved giving quilts to my family and friends!
I made one of those also for Jared and his family! Great quilts!
What a fun video!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to make!
This is delightful. Thank you gentlemen !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love love love!!!😂❤ this is all really good info for us quilters, im really getting into quilting this year and that’s my next endeavor!! A man’s quilt.
I'm so glad you have enjoyed this video! Thanks for watching and commenting!
This has to be one of my favorite videos, love it!
Thank you Lucila!
