Line6 dropping the price to $550 shortly after the Kemper Profiler Player was dropped is such a boss move. There is no more competing in that price range, the HX is the best.
Very good video, about the feel, I did compare the tone/ feel with real AC15 preamp, Friedman IR-X preamps and others, I found I could achieve the same feel by using the more recent line 6 amp models, and/or boosting the low mids. I really achieved the same qualities, but you need to work a bit for it. And by the way, I nust sold the IR-X last week because I was able to get the same feel with the placater dirty and plexi jumped models.
I've been using one for a few years now as my ONLY pedal on stage. I play keyboards and rhythm guitar in a cover band and having to lug a 2x12 combo just for guitar tone got a little cumbersome. I never mic'd it (always ran it direct) so my amp was basically a 50lb stomp box. I replaced it with the HX Stomp (in "Stomptrooper White") and it solved a lot of logistics issues. I run it to a Radial DI and then straight to the FOH using the stage monitor as my cab. I just put in my toolbox with my cables and picks after the gig and I'm done.
the HX stomp XL is the perfect size for someone who wants access to alot of stuff but still keeping it relatively simple. The 8 blocks and 8 footswitches is perfect for not over complicating things.
I'll definitely be buying one. Just grabbed a PRS Swamp Ash. Came to your vids from a FB workplace setups group and absolutely loved your office setup and will be using it as inspiration for my office.
dude! glad you stuck around and that you're enjoying the content. I need to get another PRS back in my arsenal I've owned 4 (or 5) of them and they're killer guitars
I just repurposed my HX Stomp from backup to pedalboard centerpiece with some real pedals and I still have to say it's an impressive little device despite the Helix echosystem is nearly 10 years old. Considering the price drop and what the used market offers it still worth getting, the sounds are still good, the FX I believe still offer more in quality and variety than the competition and it can do a lot: from being a rig backup that stays in the gig bag to being the amp in a box of a pedalboard.
I love my HX Stomp. Recently I bought the new Zoom Multistomp 50G+. For a single pedal that can handle up to 6 effects at the same time at a fraction of the price, I had to give it a go. Great times to be a guitar player, nowadays you have to struggle to find something that doesn't work.
This is a really informative video, thanks man! I have a Line 6 M5 for some extra effects on my board - would the HX Stomp be overkill for just the few extra effects I'd want it for?
I don't think so! Its such a versatile pedal that it could deliver anything that you ever want to scratch the itch for! Overdrives, fuzz, trem, more delays, etc.
This is what I’m looking at currently to purchase, the Stage though. Probably may not have the long term continued support which Line6 provide but face value its got some pretty nifty and essential features which I’m interested in. Such as microphone input, Bluetooth, iOS editing, looper, stereo effects loop, dedicated aux in.
Ok what is your opinion if you own a Tonex? I was considering this vs the HX Effects, but don't really need the amp modules as I already have the Tonex. Thoughts?
The tonex definitely has better amp tones and feel. I’m actually building an hx stomp and tonex board now and the stomp will just be my wet effects! So I think if you have the hx effects and the tonex it’s a solid combination 💪🏻
can it be used stand alone , like without any other pedals. Ive always used Line 6 multi fx processors like the POD XT , HD 500 etc. Im confused if I should go for the HX stomp as the only stand alone gear for live shows
Absolutely it can. I'd recommend using it alongside a TRS style footswitch to add 2 additional footswitches but its perfectly capable of being a stand alone unit
I've been looking for an Amp Simulator for DAW and live. I've been happy with my trusty Tech 21 Blonde and pedals for live. I've considered a lot of options but after spending the last 40 odd years destroying my eyesight on menu interfaces on rack mount units, pedals etc. I have decided to go for the Friedman IR-X which as you will know has knobs that display EXACTLY what the settings are, I really want to see at a glance what the settings are. I had considered the HX but I'm now convinced the Freidman will do the trick. Nice demo I may add, thanks for the heads up.
I had the IR-X and it’s a great tube preamp. Sonically it very impressive, but the Stomp can do it with the same sound and feel. Still, you’ll have the knobs and menu complex menus to deal with.
Can I use it as a 3 channels peamp? I would like to replace my analog preamp pedal AMt SS-20 which has clean, crunch and lead. I understand the Helix is based on snapshots so I wonder if I can have a rig with 3 preamps, two of them bypassed as necessary to let te one left active to provide the clean/crunch/lead sound.
Hey dude! Not sure what you're wanting exactly so hopefully I answer this correctly. If you want to use the Stomp as a preamp to the power section of your real amp, yes you can. Similarly, if you're asking about using 3 different preamps on the stomp/overdrives then the answer is also yes. Hope that helps!
Got all the pedals already??? OK just get a Moore RADAR IR AMP/SPEAKER (100.US) simulator and just plug into your DAW. It's a good cheap way of quiet quality recording.
It's extremely flexible and powerful, but many of its effects and cabs have been surpassed and don't feel professional/studio quality. Very good value, but it also feels like something that won't be players' 'endgame' gear, begging the question if they should save more for offerings from strymon, walrus, diamond, etc.
@@IshredGuitar Do you even play an instrument? Trolling on such professional/ critically acclaimed gear makes you sound like you have no idea about tube amps and digital modelers.
If you want to talk amp modeling you could go a number of different ways, but show me any other unit under $600 that has such a wide variety and flexibility with effects..it doesn't exist
@@ZachBrobstMusic it needs an external boost to get any high gain tones- noe on the tone net sounded like the samples- i sold it pretty quick- cant swap cabs anddd irs like on kemper or headruch or helix
*My reaction to every Line 6 product is ultimately yuck, at that price I know I can nab identical quality and performance from another brand for a meager fraction of the price, even if it's in fact older and used, but even brand new there's plenty out there.* $700 new for digital gear is insane because even at half that, *they would still be profiting.* They're a lot like a band with a very loyal fanbase, so I totally understand, they can get what they want for their products, *and I would do the very same if in such a position because I am an electrical/electronics engineer after all.* The ultimate caveat is they have also produced a lot of shitty gear regardless of how great some of it is.

Definitely seems like an intentional (and smart) move by Line 6!
I use both now hahah
Where did you see that? On thomann still €649
It's $700 bucks

The price commentary aged like milk

100% This thing is a killer value. Such a useful tool for a guitar or bass!
ZACH?!?!?!?!??!?!?!? I DIDN’T KNOW YOU HAD A TH-cam CHANNEL!!!!! That’s amazing!!! Well done bro! This video is GREAT!!!!!
Looks like the price of the Stomp went back to $699 US. 😢
sure is. Just looked as Im watching. In a galaxy far away, long ago, they were more affordable.
THIS WAS A SALE THE PRICES ARE BACK UP.
I think I will get this instead of the bigger version I’m really only interested in the deftones presets anyway. Everything else would just be bonus.

Excellent take! Agreed 100% Subscribed ✅
Great video; definitely the HX Stomp higher up on my "To-Get" list. Can anyone speak to the quality of its Rotary Speaker effect? Thanks!
Mine arrived today my second one ..the amps ..meh..but using in front of my Mesa JP2C effects only
I have to wonder if the price drop could be connected to a new updated product line in the pipeline?
I’ve thought about that to or if it was to compete with the Player… I’d be curious what all they’d add to a new stomp at this point though!
Usb-C and lower power draw would be enough for me
No love for the Hotone Ampero Stomp 2?
Ampero 2 Stomp is the real boss. 💪
MAN! I knew I forgot one. Yes - the Hotone Ampero is actually a super solid unit

I love my HX Stomp, It's a beast!
Super helpful, thank you Zach!
Also the Two Notes for Cabs/IRs
Boss GT Core also in the same compact all-in-one club that oddly never gets included
Yes! Absolutely agree except I feel like Boss hasn't quite figured out the amp feel/sound like Line 6 has yet. Their effects are spectacular though
Ok what is your opinion if you own a Tonex? I was considering this vs the HX Effects, but don't really need the amp modules as I already have the Tonex. Thoughts?

I had HX Stomp before, for some reason it overheated in 2 hours of playing and hangs, so I had to reboot it.
definitely weird! I’ve left mine on for hours with no issues before!

😢Bought mine just before the price drop. Enjoying the hell out of it though.
huge bummer dude! sometimes you can get the website to price match for you!
I really want one. Or the cortex
From what I’ve heard the QC is amazing! Its a little harder to dial in some of the effects but amp tones are amazing
Super worth it for the new low price

no not really. Just dial it in properly.
It’s really end game gear to me, having compared it to great analog tube preamps. You need to adjust it though.
