Koala Sampler meets Novation Launchpad X

- Recently I purchased Launchpad X to check if I can use it with Koala Sampler for live playing and control midi cc of Koala events. Launchpad has some awesome capabilities of creating custom pages with sliders, buttons and drum racks. It comes with Novation Components software which is available for Mac, Windows and Google Chrome web browser.

Thanks. NanoKEY is the best for creating music and melodic parts in some DAW like Gadget or Loopy. It is very portable and wireless. Launchpad is my favorite for fingerdrumming of some prerecorded one shots. It is very programmable so gives many possibilities.
I know how to get faders added but the ones that go up and down like filter, pitch etc. How do you create those?
I think they are called bipolar faders and are in Launchpad X Components app in the same section as unipolar faders
So does koala take in the launch's velocity values?
If so does koala have velocity zoned sampling?
Yes. Koala can Handle velocity of input midi and it transfers it to volume of samples. Multi layered samples mapping would be cool
Hi it seems i cant map the transport control on my launchpad mini mk3, no matter what value i set on novation components, any advise?
You have to check if you selected correct midi channel in your daw
Can the recorded samples from koala be converted into garageband or Ableton Live ?
Of course. They are regular wav files

@@brandonhuston the best way that I found is to use the Launchpad utility software, assign each of the pads to the desired midi that correlates to a drum note
Then it’s universal and will work with any daw

Are you able to play looped samples? My launchpad x will play all other samples besides the ones that are looped and I can’t figure out why
You have to set sample type to “loop” instead of “oneshot”
@@coffebeats They are set to loop and they’re set on hold but my launchpad won’t play them. It only plays one shots

I guess you used the launchpad X with the iPad app from Novation too??
I don’t use any dedicated app for Launchpad on iPad. I use Novation Elements on Mac for setting Launchpad layout with buttons. There is midi mapping function in iPad apps that letting me bind Launchpad with them.

@@chilledm.136 I wasn’t using Machine Micro but you have to check if it works already in midi mode. I think there were some problems with it so maybe that is why people don’t use it with Koala. Here is nice review th-cam.com/video/uMRMyC3BQZA/w-d-xo.html

Could you use this same or a similar dongle on an iPhone (with Koala Sampler and the Launchpad X). How do you send midi from the launchpad-x usb-c port while powering it at the same time from the same usb-c port (with the right voltage and all)? That’s the part I am not sure how to do and what to get to make it possible. I would love to do this too, so any tips or gadget recommendations would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
This dongle is usb-c so if you have usb-c iPhone you can use it as well. It works with Android, as I checked. You can simply send midi via USB and power at the same time because this dongle has USB, usb-c power and audio out connector as well as micro SD card reader and hdmi. You can use this connectors at the same time.
hey man! love the setup, inspired me to get a launchpad x of my own. So I had an easy time setting up the MIDI for the samples themselves as well as the keyboard to play samples on a piano roll (both of these layouts were out of the box) however, using the novation components page I have tried to put in a play and record function as well as some drum grids to access the sequences. on another page I have tried setting up the effects. so these are custom modes 3 and 4.
The problem is when I try to map the MIDI it is completely unresponsive. Both custom modes have been sent to the launchpad but koala is not seeing them when I try to map. Any idea as to what Im doing wrong?
EDIT: I figured out another problem: the problem now is that after having sent the settings from the component page to my launchpad then unplugging it from the computer and plugging back into the launchpad it is now not responding to koala sampler at all..perhaps I need to make the ipad or koala "re-recognize" the launchpad somehow?
It is hard to say what could be wrong. I am setting my midi notes on custom page from C1 to H5 and after connecting to Koala I am going to Settings-> Map Midi and after selecting pad and taping pad on Launchpad it maps with no problem. The same process works for midi cc and effects on custom sliders and custom pages.

@@JJ-vp3bd I love it. It’s absolutely perfect for koala, it’s a total MPC and sp404 combined on crack, insanely intuitive and powerful. This is a bond fide sampling/beat making machine
