    I did a lot of research before purchasing my standard F850GS model and was also considering the F750GS because of its 2" lower standard seat height and my height being only 5'6" with a 30" inseam. After deciding on the F850GS, I opted not to purchase the low seat/suspension F850GS model because it eliminated the Dynamic ESA and center stand both of which I really wanted. I also considered installing a Touratech 25 mm lowering spring kit to the standard F850GS but after consulting with a Touratech tech it was decided that this option would not be a good one for me considering my weight of only 130 lbs and the Touratech springs being designed for heavier riders 180-200 lbs. I instead purchased a standard F850GS model and then added the factory extra-low seat and had my local dealership remove the two plastic shims on the rear shock which lowered the preload, increased rider sag and allows me to sit more comfortably on the bike. Since I still retained the factory Dynamic ESA rear suspension I still have the option of electronically adjusting rear preload for 1 rider, 1 rider + luggage or 2 riders. The decrease in the rear preload by removing the two shims was an important part in adapting the rear suspension to not only better suit my height (30" inseam) but also my weight (130 lbs). The difference of the extra-low seat and removing shims was going from barely getting both feet on the ground with less than 10% rider sag to now having my heels only about 1-1.5" off the ground with approximately 30% rider sag. I do not however recommend removing these rear shims for normal-heavier weight rider. For shorter heavier riders the Touratech progressive lowering springs would still be a better option.

    Hello you two, that is a great contribution - both thumbs up! Only a few days ago, I tried to test drive the F850GS, unfortunately without success > she is in the standard version for me with 172cm too high, or my legs are too short - however. I then drove the F750GS to get an idea of the engine and the gadgets - I have to say it fits. Now it would be cool to get a link from you for this kit. Because the seller at BMW says that there is nothing. :-( But you have shown me, there is something! Thank you very much! I'm looking forward to more videos on the two bikes, keep up the good work! Thank you! Greetings from Baden-Württemberg / Germany

      Here’s one from Touratech in case your dealer has an easier time getting it from them. Not sure if it’s the exact same kit rebranded by Touratech or not, but product photos are near identical (which leads me to suspect it in fact is the same kit, just rebranded):

    I’m really short, just 5’1” (154 cm). I like the F750 GS and have sat on one with standard height chassis and extra low seat (medieval torture devise). I’m on very tips of toes and barely manageable with one foot down. I think I will buy that configuration and then buy the hyperpro lowering spring as you have discussed. I sat on an F750GS with the low chassis height and extra low seat a couple of years ago and it fit me amazingly well. I was so excited but had no money 💵 😢. Since the hyperpro lowering option allows me to keep Dynamic ESA and center stand I think it’s the better option. I will get the side and center stands shortened afterwards.

    Great review. Many thanks for sharing your experience.
    Just one comment: By using progressive springs to lower your bike you do not change the total suspension length. Just the sag caused by the bikes weight is different. When the bike is on the center stand it then has exactly the same geometry as with standard springs. Both front and rear suspension are fully extended. Hence you cannot reduce the height/length of the center stand. Am I right?

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, the bike’s weight will compress it. The center stand ended up being too long. We tried with a center stand from a 750, but it too was too long. Had to take it to a welder to shorten it.

    Wow, thank you so much for this video! I just purchased this kit from hyperpro for my 850 gs as well, and have been worrying about the install. You mention that you were able to maintain your warranty by having the dealer install the kit. Would you happen to know if this is true for the United States as well? Also how much did they charge you for the install? Here in the states the dealership charges on a per hour basis. Awesome video!

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Gonzo! You're most welcome! I couldn't say, but I would guess so, since if it's an authorised dealer, they'll have to take responsibility for the work they do. But do double check that with your dealer! There's also a near identical kit from Touratech as well. Looking at the pictures, I think it's just a rebranded Hyperpro, but I could be wrong about that. Oh, and we paid somewhere around €350 (USD $385) for the whole thing, including the installation, so around €100'ish for the work. As I understood it, it's not a big effort to install them, if you're an experienced mechanic.

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, BMW has side stand for the factory lowered option. We’re using that. The central stand is trickier, since there’s no OEM center stand for the factory lowered bikes. The one from 750 was too short (we tried that). The original for the 850 was taken to a welder to be shortened, which is the one that’s on now. It wasn’t shortened quite enough, though, so it requires a bit of elbow grease to get up. Next week we’ll have one from a 750 built up by a few cm and try that instead, which seems like the better way forward 👍

    I am thinking of applying hyperpro to my f750gs. But can you explain why the side and center stand don't work when lowered? Because I guess it takes effect to reduce the clearance above the swing arm. Of course front height will also get lowered a bit, so does the lowering of the front make that impact on the clearance of the swing arm from the ground?

      Hello, Kuldeep! That's a really tough question for me to answer! I'd say buy the one you like better. Both are supremely competent bikes. If you want something that's a little lighter and nimbler and easier to handle off-road, then go with the 850. If you want a machine that eats a hundred miles for breakfast without breaking a sweat, go for the 1250. The 1250 fits my driving style and preferences a bit better than the 850, but it might be the exact opposite for you! What are you looking for in a bike? Will you be doing mostly off-road, or on-road? Twisties, or city driving? Long tours, or just around the vicinity?
