Is there any need for a 750 GS when the 850 GS is already so good?

    I had the 750 for 12 months. Bought new, with panniers, and did some long trips. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this bike. Does everything you would expect to do with it. I’m not an offroader, so cannot speak to that, but it does have an enduro setting and seems easy enough to maneuver around. In an age when we are always seeking more and can complain about almost any technology/comfort, I can say that it’s a little light and high in high winds, the tank is a little small for touring, and the seat and wind screen fall a little short for full comfort. The electronics package rivals any other BMW as does the fit and finish. In short, it’s a fantastic bike, but will leave 21st century humans wanting for more and unsatisfied, much like a smartphone that’s a second too slow or inflight Wi-Fi that goes out for 5 minutes.

    Yes, the 750 is underrated. It will handle perfectly everything that the great majority of adventure bike owners do. Sunday rides? Yes! Groceries? Yes! Commuting in traffic? Yes! Light offroading? Yes! Roadtrips in the summer? Yes but change the windscreen :)

    Something all these huff 'n puff whiners about more hp forget is what came before. I'm in my eighth decade and have been riding since 1955. THINK ABOUT WHAT I RODE!!! 650cc were considered "high" powered engines. When Honda burst the bubble and put 750cc engines on the street, it was a revolution. The Japanese were the people who birthed the huge number of motorcycles around today. With no inflation in the 1930s, the motorcycles available to young riders was teeny. I had a 5 hp, 2 speed Cushman Eagle. as my first bike I had a Menagerie of English bikes, which sat and dripped oil because of poor QC. At that time the HD Electro-Glides were the high QC bikes. A 750cc is all you need. In fact, I'm shopping for a 650-750 now. I still have my 1978 Yamaha 1100E that I bought just to have a shaft drive. These behemoth touring bikes are a waste of money - for what they cost you should just buy car. Truth be told, for touting you can get by just fine with a 650-750cc engine.

    I have the 2019 750 with an aftermarket windscreen. I can overtake on the highway easily. I put about 5000 miles from NY to Nova Scotia taking the ferry and returning overland. Road a quite a bit of gravel and a little dirt. The bike performed really well. I replaced the original tires upon my return with adventure tires. Upgrading from a really old 650gs I had a healthy fear of wind but this bike allayed those fears for me. I also ride in NYC traffic regularly and the bike is very nimble for this purpose. Obviously I don’t use side bags in town. I love this bike. The only other upgrade besides engine guards are some Denali lights which have amazing programming features which actually surprised me In the city which flash when I hit the horn and it really gets a response from aggressive cars when there changing lanes in front of you. I always wind up doing more night riding then most and I got the lights to really widen the field of view for wildlife when I’m outside of the city so these lights are twice as amazing. Btw I’m a 55 year old woman and am 5’6”. I don’t need a taller bike. This bike is perfect for me for running around NYC and long trips with some light adventures off road. I can strap gear all over it and don’t t even feel bad about it. I like to think I get a 50 pound credit since I’m not a six foot man. I intend to get a lot of use out of it.

      I’m a 71 year old man with severe arthritis. I still ride on / off road. I’ve had several GS 1200’s and a 1100 GS. I think I’m gonna buy the 750 GS. I gave the R1200 Nine T Scrambler now, and it just doesn’t cut it off road. 🏍️💨🏁

    I have the exact same bike (learner bike in our driving school) and I must say it is so much fun throwing into turns, and at the same time being so comfortable on longer trips. About to take it on a 7000km journey around Europe. Was thinking about a R1250GS, but this will absolutely to the job for a much more affortable price. Loving it!

    I was test driving it and fall in love with the easy handling and the sound 👌
    It makes a perfect landing between a Adventure Bike and a easy to Handle Road Bike fore some City traffic.

    I rode the F800 and 700, and they were like two completely different bikes. Hated the 800 as a twitchy, tippy PITA to ride slowly. The 700 was as comfortable as an old pair of jeans, and I loved it when I rode all round and twice over the top of Iceland.

    I've just put 1.1k on my new 23 750 all on road miles I'm still new to adv scene so I haven't tried the trails but I figured I'd get this to try out some light trail riding. I absolutely love this bike coming from a 600 super sport to this is honestly really fun I couldn't be happier.

    The 850 is huge. 750 is better fit for some people under 5’8”

    I currently ride a 750GS after coming off a 1250GS. I find it much lighter, with a lower seat and much more maneuverable. It has plenty of power and rides very smooth with the suspension in road mode. I ride the Malibu hills every Sunday and while the suspension is a little soft and the tires a little narrow, it handles the technical turns pretty darn well. While I often consider moving up to a 900XR or even a 1000 XR, the ride comfort on the 750 would be hard to give up. Overall, I like the 750 more than the 1250 because I dont go on any long trips

      selling my f900xr for something. . beautiful with all options but one tip and i wait 3 months for parts. Someday i'll get the 750GS to keep it lower like my F800R. I' prefer to stay close to the ground. - Dont need offroad. !

    I sold my street triple, as I was going to lose my licence on that bike, and bought this 2021 F750GS in replacement, lose the sound resonator and stick on a mid pipe, plenty of tone, stick her on a dyno and you will find the extra HP compared to the F850GS, this bike is more catered towards the road, but does just fine on gravel and sand as well as proven in many videos online. I have no complaints on my little 750, and about to do Lands end to John O Groats, and I am use to riding bikes with 160bhp-200bhp sportbikes, this is a relaxing comfortable ride, and I have had no issue keeping up with my mates on the back roads when they are riding the street or sport bikes, this is a very easy bike to throw around the corners.

      What do you about the dyno and the power? Do you mean a remap? Who is offering that? I’ve only seen a place in Germany offering remaps for this bike.

      @@simonborg4343 any Dyno can gain performance, had mine done over here in Jersey and remapped, gains were -1hp compared to the 850, but you can notice the gains, engine performance is a lot better, she pulls well

    I love my 750. Bought in 2019 and spent the next two years riding in Central Los Angeles. Now I'm up in the PNW and it still does. 100% of what riding I've been doing. But I really want to do some BDRs and somehow I think moving up to the 850 is the wise choice. Besides, I got that balloon payment coming up next year.

    I got a 2019 and have ridden it for 13k miles. It has plenty of power and does everything I need it to do. An excellent all around bike. If you find it too expensive or tall, a 310r should be a decent alternative.

    I'm a cruiser rider normally but I spent 3 days recently touring Portugal on the 750GS (my only time on an ADV-type bike) and had so much fun. It ate curves for breakfast and even handled some pretty serious (and completely unplanned) off-roading. My only complaint is that the seating position became pretty uncomfortable for me after a few hours, particularly for my right knee--that might just be how this type of bike is though

      Oh man, I did exactly the same thing. Rented a bmw 750GS in portugal for 4 days. Coming from a yamaha fz1, i loved it. It was comfy, torquy and just amazing. Might be my next bike. Just a bit big and tall for me though.
      Portugal is paradise for riders.

    I rode an F750GS for a week on the BMW rider training course. It's a fantastic bike and at only 5'9 was ideal to get my leg over. It seemed bombproof and so planted on the snotty muddy roads of Devon in February. Nice and torquey and forgiving for a beginner too.
    The only weakness was the lack of a windshield which really could have done with on the long fast highways. I hope to buy one and when I do I'll be fitting an aftermarket screen.

      I did the same BMW rookie to rider on a 750gs and bought one after, a year later I still love it! A bike that does everything I ask, and looks cool in anniversary colours.

      The only thing is I will have 2 similar biggish bikes much to my wife's annoyance. The 500X I have I can't bear to part with but let's wait and see!

      @@paulyflyer8154 well done mate, I don’t think you will regret it. I’ve added a Puig screen which makes a difference in the wind. Also I picked up the BMW panniers and top box which are also very good. I still love mine a year later, a great bike which does everything. Enjoy!

    Bought a 750GS brand new in November 2021, sold it today. Not great for 2up on long roads. Had a 2015 1200 Triumph Explorer, best I ever had. Wish we had a Triumph agent in Namibia

    The previous generation (rotas twin) were utterly superb bikes! I owned a couple and regret selling them. I cant quite bring myself to like the new ones with the Chinese engines, though I do accept they are better bikes.

      The rotax was boring in power delivery and vibrated too much. This chinese engine got much more character, nice roar and zero vibrations.

    As a smaller rider and F750 owner I'd say very happy with the bike and performances, easily ride with a passenger and long distances.
    Any of the other BMW adv bikes Id have to order with a lowered seat and lowered suspension thats extra costs and makes it more difficult to sell on as most riders are taller individuals.
    In short love the bike have put almost 12k kms on it and loved every single one of them

    I had an F700GS and it was the blandest bike I've ever owned. Horribly bad suspension, lousy wind protection, but it braked very well and with the comfort seat it was really comfortable. Very reliable. Never had a problem. I traded it for an 890, much better in everything than the 750 or 850. If I wanted something similar, I'd go for a tiger 850 sport. Almost the same price and much better in everything: suspension, brakes, engine, wind protection, weight. ....

    The seat height really matters most im 5`4 the f750gs is just right for me with lowered seat while the f850gs has higher lowered seat height.

    Haven't ridden either, but the obvious thing to me....a ridiculous windshield on the 750. For the price, an adjustable height shield should be standard.

    Good natured bike with pleasant attitude, good windprotection, super comfy, great stance even on Autobahn, 'nuff payload, it is a buddy bike, bit fat, not the GOAT, but honestly ur buddies and u r quite like that anyway ;)

    Having owned a F700GS before and now having a F800GSA it's quite a different bike. Not much offroading to be had in Ireland but on the longer trips the GSA wins everytime. The 750 and 700 will always be considered the 850 and 800s poor cousin.

    The 850 would be a problem for me as I'm a short woman. 750 better for height, and so is 1250. Don't know why they would do a 760 and 780 lowered suspension for 1250 and 750 but not 850. To me, that's what lets 850 down (or not!) so people who have rated 850 and dissed 750 (including the reviewer to some extent), the 850 is not that good of an all-rounder if BMW can't accommodate height properly with it. Height discrimination.

    The question IMHO is that when you add the money to get the bells and whistles that makes it really valuable (you can almost get it as properly equipped as a 1250 gs), it's not cheap anymore and the competition is tough.... Wouldn't you rather go for the "small" multistrada which is a really proper bike? Or for a more hooliganish Tracer 900 if off road is just an odd concept for you?

    Rented a brand new 0km 750GS in Tuscany 2019 for our honeymoon. (Low spec model) Worked great for us 2up in twists and light dirt roads. Smooth ride but, weird 'adaptive" throttle caught me out on hill-starts. Would not have wanted anything taller...850 would have been too tall & tippy for parking and city maneuvering. Was first 2-up trip together and was really enjoyed by both of us. Bought a used Multistrada after returning home to USA.

      @@Simgiov I don't know for sure. Throttle sometimes felt unpredictable. Sometimes I'd get too much throttle , sometimes not enough. In "Road Mode" It felt like the F750 was sharpening throttle when riding hard and softening throttle in the city & villages.
      Here's what BMW marketing / manual says: "In ‘Rain’ mode, the throttle response is configured to be soft, while the control characteristics of the ASC or DTC and ABS or ABS Pro are based on wet and slippery road surfaces.
      In ‘Road’ mode, the engine permits an optimum throttle response, while the ABS and ASC control systems are configured for ideal performance on all roads. The same applies to the ABS Pro and DTC dynamic traction control systems, available as optional equipment. If the ESA electronic suspension adjustment (available as optional equipment) is fitted, damping at the rear takes place in the default (‘Road’) setting."

    F700 Gs 2013 model @ 83 000 kms now and still fabulous . When they make a better bike i may think about it , i doubt it though. John 3:16 guys , GOD Bless you .

    my 2019 750gs might serve me well unless the new has cruise control. My honda 500x is more comfy at 200kg- at half the price. so unless it has all options, why upgrade ?

    As a 5'6 guy (tom cruise style) i feel like every bike over 84cm seat hight is too high for my feeling of safety. F850 is 86cm ... so yes, the f750 is great.

    Difference between 750gs in Canada versus 850gs????????????????
    Start with a nearly three grand price difference when HST sales tax is added!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Get along with about $50 per month in extra insurance for the 850 due to its 95 horsepower versus the 77 hp of the 750!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Add in the fact that the 750gs will run happily on our Cdn regular 87 octane unleaded gas - meaning a savings of dollar or more for each fill up of the 750 versus 850!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Add in the fact that if you become a SNOW BIRD and head south, southern states like Tennessee and Georgia regard regular unleaded gas as being 84 octane - with HIGH octane gas as being 87 octane ...............................and the 750 WILL RUN on Tennessee 87 octane BUT THE 850 will NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Add in the fact that the 850 WILL NOT RUN HAPPILY on 87 "high octane so called premium gas in the southern states - which is why the BMW forum has so many southerners whining because dealers have told the BIKE OWNERS that they damaged their bikes by running them on CHEAP GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    The 850 DOES HAVE a 6.5 Imperial gallon tank versus the 4 gallon tank on the 750 and the extra range IS NICE.........................BUT those extra TWO gallons definitely ADD WEIGHT if you have to pick up an 850!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    In addition the seat height on the 850 is a couple of inches higher than on the 750 making for a more awkward stopping and starting and handling experience if you are short legged or older and tryi9ng to minimize back strain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    And yes - the 850 does have higher ground clearance than the 750 but it seems to me that most riders WILL NEVER NOTICE or need that extra height!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    So..................YEAH - there IS ROOM for the 750gs in my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      They tried that with the R850. It tanked because the format didn’t work with the smaller displacement. Everyone overlooked it and went for the R1200.

    The bike is restricted to less power for beginner riders in Europe who are not allowed to ride stronger bikes.

    Too bad it cannot be easily uncorked. There are many short riders who have experience and like performance that could never fit the 850.

      Agree. The power difference with the 850 is BS, given its the same engine. When mine is out of warranty, I will tune it.

    The GS lineup is "weird" starting from the 310GS witch is a very welcome entry bike, even tough they could pimp it up with spoke wheels and more off road ready.
    But then ne next jump is up to 750 and 850.
    As I would see there is a need for 550-650cc proper GS trail bike lacking in the lineup to compete with the Aprillia 660 and Teneree 700.
    Also many are waiting for the Husqvarna Norden 501 that should have a great power/weight ratio, and be a great TET bike.
    But the adventure scene growing and new bikes arriving to the market so wery interesting to see how the lineup of all manufacturers will look like in years to come.

      750gs and 850gs share the same motor, stick the 750gs on any dyno and a remap, you'll soon find the missing 11bhp and have it more attuned to the 850gs, only difference is spoked wheels, front suspension and the extra ride mode and switchable ABS

    I think BMW should drop the 750 and go down to a 550 if they can shave enough weight

    I just passed my motorcycle course and was looking into motorcycles. I was thinking of getting the honda cb500f but then the sales men showed me BMW. I think its nice but is it a beginner bike? I'm 28and matured not looking for a fast bike. I'm 5'8 and can flat foot this. Sales men said I can put on rain mode to get the most traction

      Perfect all round bike, I still ride my sport bikes with near on 200bhp, but I rather like riding my 750gs, still plenty of power if ridden correctly, comfortable easily manoeuvrable and easy to live with

    want a road bike, low, light; not an all -arounder. congested streets is questinoalble being top heavy . Congestion there is not the same in Asia !!

    They are nowhere near as capable as the KTM 790 or 890,T700 or Tiger 900s for that matter..They are just alright.

    misssed the point; 850 is heavy, higher and more expensive. need less than 220kg; and lower seat height. 32" is max seat. don't care about offroad ! I'd not consider the 850 and i hear the new 800gs is 227kg that is more top heavy

    This motorbike has absolutely no soul and zero fun factor.. and this is a girl biker speaking ;) I chose KTM 1290 SAS instead. 30.000 kms and zero issues. This bike looks good but the ride is boring.

      Completely untrue, and the bike you replaced it with (77hp vs 160hp) says more about you than it does about the 750GS!

      that is soooooooooo untrue!!!! I own this bike... and also a few other bikes ....Harley ... R9T etc... ... this 750gs is a absolutely brilliant fun bike with soul. I guess you are really not that much experienced with riding "biker girl" ^^
