Sailboat modifications that look as good as a modern kitchen in a large house. Great ideas, finished projects, look very professional. You both are very creative and make a good team!
OMG, I am SO impressed with your work! You have turned Uma into an absolute showpiece of innovation and clever design. I’m sure the original naval architects/designers and builders would be so amazed and proud of their babies’ evolution! Congratulations guys and I can’t wait to see what’s behind the roller shutter!
From the thumbnail I almost thought you had to rip out the bathroom! This was much better! Your boat looks better than most new boats now, big manufacturers should be hiring you guys as interior marine designers.
You two people have the greatest imagination and can-do attitude that I have ever seen. I admire your sailing, carpenter, electrical, cooking, have I left anything out, oh yes, vlog capabilities. Just one bit of advice, never sand without a particle mask, your future sinuses will appreciate it! Anyway, fair winds, smooth waves, live, love, laugh, much fun memories. Great vlogs, thanks for sharing.
Dan,Kikka: Hello from Calgary. I just found you guys and have been binge watching to get caught up. You two are amazing. Your renovation is exactly what a boat interior should be, great design concept, light, organized and so original. Both of your architectural backgrounds show. Just finished watching your head renovation great teamwork so nice to see. Awesome solutions all round., to say well done is an under statement.
You guys really do some Amazing work. Anyone who hasnt tried "boat work" wont understand that it doesnt just take a craftsman to do this kind of work and get even satisfactory results. But to do that kind of work and get amazing results takes someone very skilled and has their heart in it. Excellent job Kika & Dan.
I've been following you guys since you bought the boat. (Frankly I started watching just so I could see Kikka.) But now I watch more to see the fabulous workmanship and stunning projects that the two of you pull off. It always amazes me when you comment that you just happen to have some material that you have been carrying around with you for years! Uma has to be much like the magic bag that Mary Poppins carried - what ever you need you just pull it out of the hold, or a cabinet, or somewhere! It has truly been a wonderful trip that you two have taken me on in the past few years.
I love your improvements (all of them), not just this one. You're gradually turning your vessel into a "mini-super yacht." If you ever decide to move on with another boat, Uma will be worth quite a bit of money, no doubt! Hope you two are staying safe with this coronavirus thing going around.
I love your artistic/architectral abilities, and how you combine them with practicality to come up with some great features. I also like your approach to boat life renovation. You didn't spend years making your boat "perfect" before splashing and sailing it. Then you have patiently worked your way through upgrades as and when finances allow. I also like the way you think "outside of the box" with regards to materials, etc. And now you are begining to reap the rewards for all your patience and hard work. Well done.
Kika you are always smiling and full of energy, never seem tired or frustrated with any curveballs thrown your way. Good on you, Dan is a lucky guy but pretty sure he realizes that.
When I started watching you guys my dream was an idea, no it's slowly becoming a reality. Your channel inspires me (I watch at least a video a day!) To keep pushing, keep saving and to keep learning. I can't wait to join you on the seas
You're maturing along with it your tastes are maturing. These videos with flashbacks to your early designs and your younger selves are like time capsules. Your tastes are changing from modern bright interiors to more rustic darker ones. Both the boat interior and you are, young and older, all equally beautiful. Ever refreshing looks are always much appreciated. Your boat's and your evolution what keeps your channel fresh and intriguing.
Having ideas and being practical, not wasteful is what I like about you guys! The NAV-table an bench-table is awesome. The insulation is great, especially in a colder environment. Keep up coming up with great ideas... Thanks, guys, be safe!
Your boat interior looks totally different to any other I know of. Great job! This channel is as much about sailing and travelling as it is about DIY work and interior design. Your channel absolutely deserves more subscribers! Stay safe during this global Covid crisis! Hope to see you sometimes soon here up north in Iceland.
I feel a little guilty having been a La Vagabond loyalist over the years, but I am drawn to your videos and to you both as a healthy couple taking on all these neat projects together in a world very different from my own. Thanks for the escape as I deal with isolation with my family and trying to work from home. Stay safe out there.
Wow, you never seem to stop with the making of UMA as totally yours. I know this was recorded some time ago, but I hope you both are safe and well in these trying times, this will pass and you can get back to sailing. Looking forward to more up dates, and pray that you both come put free. Take care, stay safe and some sail on.
The first video I watched was Dan weathering out a Hurricane by yourself. I then skipped around till last year, now I watch pretty consistently I love that you have put so much heart and effort into this small boat, You may be more hard core than I plan to be. I want a 40-45' Cat with electric propulsion, to sail at least the Bahamas and Caribbean. Have you ever did a timeline video from you first starting till now and future plans?? Thanks for sharing your story.
Love the butcher block table. I made our galley counter out of butcher block mahogany while we wintered in the Azores last year. Nothing makes a boat feel more like a home than natural wood :)
I would like to see and interview with your parents and their reactions to your accomplishments. I can only think of how proud they must be with all you have accomplished.
So i've watched every episode that has come out since this one and im catching this on a second pass through. At no point was it ever actually revealed what that secret cabinet contains. The way they mentioned it makes me think it was an upcoming surprise and not actually a personal secret, was this something i missed being revealed or did they forget about it?
That’s becoming a seriously interesting looking interior. Nice repurposing of the spinnaker pole track. Right now is the depressing time of year in England; it’s spring but still cold, damp and miserable. I recall flying home to Southwestern Ontario, Canada one spring and the weather here was already warm and sunny even though only late March. That’s exactly what it’s like right now. Wishing you warmer days.
I am electrician by profession and I really enjoy watching architects actually DOING themselves what they design and realising how much time and what it takes to do it nicely : )
You two are killing it. I love to see somebody using some cardboard as templets to make sure things will fit. Love the new bench, mast track, support system Really nicely done. Keep up all the nice work
I love you guys! Gotta be cutest sailing couple on TH-cam. Uma is even more beautiful now. Also like the shout out to impossible dream, that project is amazing. Cheers from Southern California ~
Guys, I spent three years working on mega yacht as an engineer, 9 in the Navy. I have been at sea for over 20 years. YOUR craftsmanship, ingenuity and artistic flair is amazing guys BRAVO! Fair winds and following seas
Hey U 2. Canada here. You never fail to amaze and entertain all of us from around the world. The only thing that I don't understand is , how come you have so much time to sail where and when you want. Or spend time renovating your beautiful boat. I would think that all the rich and famous mega yacht owners would be throwing all kinds of cash at the both of you, to " Umanize " their over priced ' look at me ' boats. Keep having fun and stay safe out there.
impressive design and workman(&woman)ship! What sets you two apart from virtually every other one of "living aboard" blogs is that you guys actually have the skills and tenacity to pull it off! This 65 yr old man is a fan!
So damn fancy! :D you really break the rules of how a boat should look and I love it! Your projects really helps me and probably others to se outside the box aswell!
I'm still binge watching these vids, you two never cease to amaze. I have been in the building trade for my entire working life, 40 years now and can turn my hand at most projects. One little pet hate of mine though is the use of the cordless drill, there is no need to keep pulling on that trigger, control it slowly and use the clutch to prevent over sinking/tightening or those batteries will die sooner than later. ;-)
Three things: 1. The rails for the door, and for the table, you should rub the inside of the rails with a graphite pencil. Graphite is a great dry lubricant and it lasts for ages, and it won't stick anymore. :) 2. You should seal that timber, the salt will wreck it. 3. If the leg on the folding table, also folded away, it'd give you more room around it. Make sure to put a folding brace though.
Awesome job on the cabin upgrades guys!! Necessity is the mother of all invention !! Fair winds and following seas Uma!!!

So good. Just so damn good! ❤ "Why? Because why not?" I really expected you to say "because we can". It's a subtle difference but really feels like your approach to things. You see the possibilities and do not let the why not hold you back! Inspiration! 👍
You guys just keep coming up with this incredible, endless creativity with every corner of your boat. It’s like the background music should be the “The Magical Mystery Tour”. Can’t wait til the next project. Well done !
There is NO conversion bus/van on land, nor is there ANY vessel on the seven seas that has seen more - and more beautiful/functional - "refurbishmentations" than has the Uma! You two are amazing and Uma is a rare and special jewel!
You guy's rock the out of the box approach to creative thinking.. I love your logic but am more into the warm tones. Your inspire me and at my age I need that! Cheers to your good work : )
Another elegant, artistic, and very stylish renovation for Uma. Magnificent & well done D&K. The lights at the end were clearly jumping the shark! Make a good companion to the lights underneath Uma as well! Cheers!
Looks great. I was watching a lot of DIY camping van videos, as the pandemic and over anxiety about reported wind speeds kept me from paddling my sea kayak...and com'on you've already figured it out. I need sea craft that likes the wind! I have to say that after 200+ DIY van conversion videos and only about 80 sailboat videos, sailors have the best ideas. I like your thinking, your projects, your results. Inspiring. Harry Potter..... Gave me an idea for you to try. I saw at Costco a 65" TV for less than $300. My Nikon can see in the dark better than me, better than any cat. Put a good sensor, wide angle lens on the top of your mast. Put a big flat screen on the ceiling above your bed.... you'll have to figure out the floating candles.
Loving the energy that you guys are spreading, it’s contagious! You should both be designing and building boats for a living. I’ve been on so many boats that look good but are so impractical in the function department. Are you still in Plymouth? All ok?
OMG! 8:05 😂 and that song, "... when I'm with you, I feel like I'm inside a rainbow..." 🤣 absolute classic! Dan, amazing work once again, ma' man. You nailed it! Makes me want a DIY Pearson. Well done video, you two. You both look adorable. Cheers, congrats, and love each other non-stop! 🥂
I have been watching all of the work you both have done over the last few years and this... just WOW! Absolutely gorgeous interior! Well done! Hard work and patience paid off! I LOVE the wood!!⛵❤
“It’s pretty much perfect “ !!! Love seeing your projects !!!! You two do such beautiful work! I love watching your projects ! Your detail and ideas are incredible!! Thank you for your awesome videos!
Dan, you're the man. When you finish this trip you should, between the both of you be able to go in to business doing semi-custom add-ons for sailing/tiny home living.
Doods. Your tinyhomeboat is more pimped than most people's 4.000 foot house! You guys could make tons of cushion in your cruising kitty by offering interior design services to other cruisers! I put in a bunch of Hue lights to the house over the last few years; was chilling out with some hot cocoa a couple months ago and thought, "Man, it'd be cool to control the ambiance of the boat like I do in the house..." and here you are at @10:00 proving that It Can Be Done! BOOM!
Well I made it here from Step 1. I can tell you that when I retire in a couple of years I am hoping that Dan and Kika have designed and built a boat as I would buy it. I have to say I am a fan of Dan and Kika's designs and innovations.
That's a great update. So many ideas for my She 31 built back in 1978 that you passed on your trip in Portsmouth Harbour. You know I think someone from a production yacht company is going to approach you to design the layout of one their boats! Love the colours and shades you have chosen. I'm still working out having watched your electric motor fitment how to replicate what you have achieved at a sensible price - my diesel took in water last season!
Have you checked out our website? www.sailinguma.com/electro-beke Everything we used in the original instal in listed and linked in there along with the wiring diagram.
I really like your design ideas. I'm a contractor/carpenter. I'm always pushing my clients to do designs, that seem to be on the front edge. I like creativity and doing something that others haven't done. I'm so tired of people looking at design, 10 years in the past and thinking they are doing something. I just had a customer request a particular faucet. Polished chrome with gold accents. IT WAS DISCONTINUED IN 1994. Not kidding. Pimp my faucet was never a thing. Good job on your design work. I really like your thinking/thought process/outlook.
Looks amazing but that’s no surprise coming from your guys’ boat work. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see what you have planned for next week!
So, did the forward hatch stop leaking? Let us know about the energy usage on the hot water heater. They do make wind generators in vertical cylinders as well as rotating blades. They are omnidirectional and aren't subject to gyroscopic precession.
What a treat to get to visit with you all again....I am assuming you all are still in England.....your project really looks great so you must feel really comfortable in your home...please take care and stay safe around this coronavirus mess.....thanks!
You guys are so creative!! Great rebuild of that space. My last big remodel was a large kitchen in a mid-century modern house, it took two years, but was only unusable at any given point in time for one or two days. Most of the time was spent cogitating on how best to fit out the space and maximize every square foot (on a boat it's more like maximizing every cubic inch). It turned out really awesome and I'm so proud of that space. You should be very proud of how you've utilized all the space on Uma. Fantastic job!
You two certianly have excellent chemistry! I am an accomplished cabinet builder but I do not have your vision when it comes to "boat corners" ! Lolol nicely done, I would gladly pay you to plan my interior. I certianly can build but you two truely bring a finished look to everything you touch! Very well done!!
You guys are genius! If and when you decide to stop traveling the world and want to go into business, I suggest you be consultants to other boaters who want to maximize the function and beauty of their boat. Well Done!
Just looking at this again - there's a beautiful joint in that bench really finely interleved, plus it looks like the stand is rounded out at the top to blend with the seat - that's really impressive - did you do it with a router? Really impressive!
Nice job. How about adding a spring-loaded wheel and a rubber stopper to the leg of the bench seat, so when you sit down it doesn't move and when you get up you can easily slide it out of the way.
Two questions. Have you ever checked for mold behind the old insulation? Do you think screwing into the end of the wood will survive sitting on (rather than a wraparound (wrapunder) hinge)?
When you guys are done sailing, forget architecture, start a boat interior design business. Love the innovation in design and use of random materials🙂
BadAss Turnip
I told him the same thing they can rebuild old sailboats and own their own marina at the same time and they would do great
Sailboat modifications that look as good as a modern kitchen in a large house. Great ideas, finished projects, look very professional. You both are very creative and make a good team!

Kikka: You know that's more work for me right?
Dan: Boy, it's windy outside!
Diversion level 100
What episode do they show the surprise? I've been watching a little out of order.
😊
From the thumbnail I almost thought you had to rip out the bathroom! This was much better! Your boat looks better than most new boats now, big manufacturers should be hiring you guys as interior marine designers.
You guys make boat projects look so easy! The whole team at Precision Sails hopes you are safe and healthy! Let us know if you need anything.
you guys rock. next level customer service. your competition is so far behind you, that you need radar to see them.
You guys have the best looking boat interior ever. Period. Total admiration from us on Rolling Stone (Dover, UK)
I loved that you cut the wood outside this time! The romantic dinner with empty glasses and dishes was very fun. Very nice upgrade.
Yeah it wasn't raining this time, so we could do some of the work outside.
What a great addition to your old sailboat. It all looks newer and more modern than new sailboats!! -Rebecca

Loyalist? Ffs it's not a competition.
What's that I'm NOT hearing in the high winds...no lines slapping on the mast! Looks pretty sweet down below now. Nice job as always.
Hey I love that sound. Clang clang clang clang. That sound is happiness to me.
This looks so much better and grownup. Starting to really love the look of this boat.
Ok. Hadn't gotten to the multicoloured light show yet. I take it back. ;)
😂
You all getting fancy there with your boat! Looking really good! Love that whole nav station and bench with book shelves!
You 2 are so fun to watch! The redesign looks fantastic!
Another amazing project completed. The RGB's were a perfect touch! Thanks for sharing, we loved it. Safe travels.
You have done an amazing job of making the interior so functional, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks for sharing your story.
I Love it... Seriously what I enjoy most of all about Sailing UMA is the boat Renovations and DIY projects. Its so refreshing to watch. :)
Love the butcher block table. I made our galley counter out of butcher block mahogany while we wintered in the Azores last year.
Nothing makes a boat feel more like a home than natural wood :)
Great ideas. We gutted our boat and spent 8 years rebuilding it. We never regretted that. I love what you have done
I would like to see and interview with your parents and their reactions to your accomplishments. I can only think of how proud they must be with all you have accomplished.
You guys are so impressive! Great vision and talent to make your boat extra special. Beautifully done!
Rgb is indeed way cool. Garage club time!! Loving the sound effects dan ! Brilliant.

Great results on that project! You really have a valuable talent for documenting and videoing a creation. Not something every talented creator has.
Simply amazing craftsmanship . You have impressed me.
Always great to see you improving Uma and your comfort! keep it up
I'm catching up on a wonderful and loving representation of 5 years before the mast. So good to see and watch. Such an adventure!

Finish the trip? What do you mean? The trip goes on until the fat lady sings, and she’s nowhere near Uma. :-)

Have you checked out our website? www.sailinguma.com/electro-beke
Everything we used in the original instal in listed and linked in there along with the wiring diagram.
You guys are great Interior boat designers and the workmanship is great.
Binge watching all of your videos! Absolutely obsessed with this channel! Much love from Alaska
Awesome job, really like the wood tone color of the table and bench.
Starting to look like its new project time! Way to go!
I just love yall BIG yet small creative yet innovative ideas to make it happen. Nice work love birds!
Nice job. How about adding a spring-loaded wheel and a rubber stopper to the leg of the bench seat, so when you sit down it doesn't move and when you get up you can easily slide it out of the way.
I do not believe the wind is blowing 25 knots and you are sitting making you tube vids!!!
Wow, you two are definitely chilled!
You two are turning small sailboat design completely on its head. I love it!!!
Terrific! You can't see the smile on my face...but it is there. You two are really something else! (:
Two questions.
Have you ever checked for mold behind the old insulation?
Do you think screwing into the end of the wood will survive sitting on (rather than a wraparound (wrapunder) hinge)?
