Angelina’s technical acumen, feel, her breath control, her pitch and the amount of soul she displays is far beyond that of any nine normal year old child. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. Please read the bio I compiled for Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina will turn 18 on January 10, 2024 - She sang her first song (actually part of a song) at age 1 1/2 and taught herself how to sing beginning at age 2 by scrolling through TH-cam and listening to all the Jazz Greats. Also, her grandmother played Jazz Records in the house - so Angelina heard music since she was born and maybe even heard music vibrations while still in the Womb (obviously we don't know for sure on that last part).
That was a soul tearing inhaling scream that we will never hear from her again because it might injure her voice in a long run, which makes it one of the rarest gems among her performances.

AJ is the rare talent that gets better the younger or the older you go. My favorite song by her is always the last one that I've listened to.The girl with a thousand beautiful voices will keep surprising you, right up to her recent Nobel Peace Prize performance of Unchained Melody and her recent Christmas song Driving Home for Christmas. Out of many 100's of reaction videos I've watched for this video over the last 6 years, you are only the 2nd or 3rd reactor to realize that squeal you listened to over & over again, was on an inhale. Yes, Michael, she takes the air in... to do that high and peculiar sound (whistle voice) at the beginning of the song. The lit candle she holds before she begins to sing, has a photo of the original author, Screamin' Jaw Hawkins (1956). Her first audition on Norway's Got Talent was, indeed, Billie Holliday's "Gloomy Sunday" (with 7 y.o.), but the final was a few months later with Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Summertime" (with 8 y.o.). First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. I too have watched this video hundreds of times and every time I am simply amazed. My favorite thing is to watch reactors with this video as their introduction to Angelina. It was how I found her. That was 4 years ago and my life hasn't been the same. Definitely do the Norway Got Talent videos. You won't be disappointed. There are 4 of them. The first and the last have English subtitles. The middle 2 are just performances. There are nearly 200 videos posted on the net with most of them being covers of various artists so you have your year pretty much filled up. No 9-year-old should sound like this. Indeed, no other child has ever sounded like Angelina. You should watch her Norway's Got Talent performances to confirm that assertion (make sure subtitles are on because, of course, other than her singing all commentary is in Norwegian). I think you might also appreciate her recordings, done around the age of 12, when she mostly recorded at home with just a guitarist accompanying her. Try "A Million Years Ago," "Stay," "Born to Die" "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and/or "Crazy." I think you could relate to the guitarist trying to focus while listening to an 11- or 12-year-old girl pour out these beautiful, emotional vocals.
You should check out the Leaked Still Holding Out For You. Angelina (10yo) was hired by Baby Fuzz to do a demo- no one picked the song, so after a couple years he recorded it himself. So it’s her doing a song no one else had recorded to inspire her. It’s fantastic.

This is the only time in my life that I heard a nine year old child put forth a performance that one expects from a seasoned adult professional. Angelina’s technical acumen, feel, her breath control, her pitch and the amount of soul she displays is far beyond that of any nine normal year old child. Professional voice coaches have said that you can’t teach what Angelina has. She is a stand alone talent that only comes around once-in-a-millennia.

You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. I think a lot of people don't realize how much Angelina has done in her short life She has recently performed at the Nobel Prize 2023, and also performed at the FIFA AWARD, also performed in front of 40 000 people only 11 years old invited by Norah Jones.

Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age.
Angelina was near her 8th birthday for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang.” In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The money was placed in a trust and available when Angelina turns 18.
Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on TH-cam.
Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The playlist now exceeds 200 songs.
The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”

Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She was already a national treasure in Norway, after winning Norway's Got Talent. The musicians lovingly called her 'the boss' since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song. Angelina will turn 18 on January 10, 2024 and signed with Republic Records in August 2020 at age 14, but her wise and loving family didn't want her promoted, even to this day. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (170+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). This was a master class and Angelina's arrangement. Listen to how she holds back the word spell by sitting on top of the "S" who taught her that? Also did you notice the vocal crack? How about how she threw that whistle tone at just the right time.
And, Angelina's vibrato is pure gold.
English isn't even her first language. Notice how she is always reading the lyrics? She is a one and done artist. She knows what she wants and delivers every time.
We believe that we are witnessing a once in a generation talent that has been blessed by the hand of God and by doing so has blessed all those who hear her voice.

Angelina dosen't cover songs, she tares them apart and remakes them into her song. And she owns them after that at least for me. I can honestly say that I have yet to hear an Angelina cover that I didn't absolutely love better than the original. Nina Simone did that to this song. I have had a lot of people who think Michael Blewsomething (no insult I just can't remember the guys last name) anyway, they hear Nina's and it is game over. But this, this this, this was a frigging masterpiece and she was 9. Her beath control, her musicality and her instincts are that of a seasoned professional which how that is possible at six years old while speaking several languages, can read and write music and play several instruments at age 6. She is amazing yet humble and above all always classy. Even now that she is 18, I have seen no attempt to sexualize her in anyway. She remains professional and a class act. A role model that I was proud to introduce my granddaughters to.

Out of many 100's of reaction videos I've watched for this video over the last 6 years, you are only the 2nd or 3rd reactor to realize that squeal you listened to over & over again, was on an inhale. Good on you, that got you a thumbs up & a subscription so I can watch the amazement you will have in your journey through Angelina's massive catalog of classic cover & original songs. She's the best I've seen at conveying emotions from a song in my 76 years & she can make a rock "cry." Can't wait for the next one, all I can say is it will be amazing, whatever it is.

Her first audition on Norway's Got Talent was, indeed, Billie Holliday's "Gloomy Sunday" (with 7 y.o.), but the final was a few months later with Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Summertime" (with 8 y.o.). And this last one is her most impressive performance in the contest.

I can't remember ever being so taken by any singer so fast. I was an instant fan after the first song I heard her sing. She was acute as they come and has grown into a top tier singer who has the world at her feet.

She was already a national treasure in Norway, after winning Norway's Got Talent. The musicians lovingly called her 'the boss' since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song.
Angelina will turn 18 on January 10, 2024 and signed with Republic Records in August 2020 at age 14, but her wise and loving family didn't want her promoted, even to this day. Angelina just sang at the Nobel Peace Prize tribute to this years' recipient, Narges Mohammadi. She is also the singing voice for the 2026 World Cup, so her full promotion is likely coming soon. Angelina has over 200 songs on TH-cam, most of which are not on either her Official or Cover channels (search 'Angelina Jordan every song' to access a playlist) and she has 12 original songs released.

Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, "Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity.
Now 17 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. I too have watched this video hundreds of times and every time I am simply amazed. My favorite thing is to watch reactors with this video as their introduction to Angelina. It was how I found her. That was 4 years ago and my life hasn't been the same.

No 9-year-old should sound like this. Indeed, no other child has ever sounded like Angelina. You should watch her Norway's Got Talent performances to confirm that assertion (make sure subtitles are on because, of course, other than her singing all commentary is in Norwegian). I think you might also appreciate her recordings, done around the age of 12, when she mostly recorded at home with just a guitarist accompanying her. Try "A Million Years Ago," "Stay," "Born to Die" "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and/or "Crazy." I think you could relate to the guitarist trying to focus while listening to an 11- or 12-year-old girl pour out these beautiful, emotional vocals.
