Wow this kind of hit home for me personally. Reminded me of my old boss who took his life and I ended up taking over to keep things running. He was a good person to me and taught me everything I know in the industry that I’m in.

Daniel Ramirez I’m so sorry for your loss. I admire your courage to speak of it here. Thank you for your words. This is just a film, meant to entertain. I don’t speak on others’ behalf, but I believe that all the cast and crew would wish peace and healing for you and all affected by your boss’s passing.

I feel the same way. I lost my dad a few years ago, and now I feel like I have to take on the responsibilities he did, even though I'm still only 13 years old.

@@Rabbitrails315 thank you for sharing. I am humbled by your admission regarding your late father. I’m so sorry that you have had to endure such a thing that you shouldn’t experience at your young age. You’re stronger than you know and if you ever wonder, just know that things are going to get better eventually if not already. Don’t listen to voices inside or out that tell you are lacking. You will persevere and be victorious.
Also, Psalm 121: I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from GOD, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

As long as they're not selling anything with branded and trademarked logos on it they're good...

Two things stand out for me; the camera work - top notch scene angles & conversations, and good solid, believable acting. I did notice some audio dubbing - but I'm just being picky. I like these simple drama stories, a captain mourning the loss of a friend, the feeling of not being able to take their place. We see less of this kind of story-telling in recent sci-fi, due to all the modern CGI effects directors today often go over-the-top.

In some scenes Amanda's acting seemed a little forced but in other scenes she did really really well. Captain Ramirez reminded me a little of Cas Anvar This little production gives me some hope for Star Trek fan films in spite of CBS.

(Takes a deep breath.) This would make for a truly excellent Star Trek series. A Captain having to take command of a starship that's just lost her captain. A conflicted man who must come to grips with a tragic past, as well as having to forge a new crew, while also having to deal with the Klingons and Romulans.
How is it that professionals write crap like Discovery and fans write heart tuggers like Avalon Lost?
If Hollywood ever learnt to write like this, there would be no stopping them. But they are stuck on the original series, and rebooting it to infinity and beyond.

Looks like a Broadcast Pix TV switcher, or similar, at 7:40. This hearkens back to the first Star Wars movie where Lucas used a Grass Valley Group switcher for the Death Star's lethal planet-destroying beam controls.

This made me feel more in 15 minutes then the entire first season of STD. This is the show a network should be doing. Well done!
PS. But I really hope Derek Mason’s not dead and there’s some crafty scheme going on or something. I was really warming up to a guy with a goofy sense of humor running a starship, I wanted to see where that would go (and see some more eye rolling from Beck)

Jonathan Brown I was thinking the same thing, perhaps a prototype personal transporter or someone in a cloaked ship that owed Mason a favor, you never know. How far away was he from the Excalibur?

Season 2 Episode 2 of Discovery was directed by Jonathan Frakes and actually felt like Star Trek. I hope he directs more episodes.

@ True, but do we need the "if your eyes aren't bleeding by the end, then you didn't truly watch it" approach?
Did I mention that I actually liked S02E02?

    • @moeskido
      @moeskido 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Nesseight No, we don't. And nobody's asking anyone for that. That's called a "straw man."
Do we need angry guys repeatedly complaining about the least important details of DSC instead of going away and finding something they actually like instead?

This scenario felt very similar to TNG Episode "The Most Toys", where Data was kidnapped and they rigged his shuttle to explode to cover their tracks.
Maybe Section 31 exists in the Avalon Universe as well. :-)

Brilliant short film! Brings in those human elements and the adversities of space exploration. Star Trek originators would be proud.

while I am sad at his end,I feel that this is just another step in the evolution of the Avalon universe. After all, this is not just the crew's journey, it's Excalibur's, and for a ship like this, people come and go.

I can’t believe this video. It is some of the best Star Trek fan film work that I’ve ever had the experience and the opportunity to sit through. I can’t believe I missed this particular one 4 years ago. This sort of help me to get through a really difficult time. It is awesome. I got through without it just fine, but this would’ve really helped a lot. Now as I go through yet another fun time in my life, another chapter, it took my mind off of the things that we are currently experiencing. It is necessary, sometimes to just sit and relax and be entertained. Wow, what an awesome awesome awesome film. I hope you guys continue to have the money to make more of these.

Now that just plumb sucks. Having to take your best friend's command after he is lost? That would screw up anyone. But seeing as he is the only person within 50 light years with command experience aboard a Constitution, he is the logical choice. Even though it stinks out loud.
Very good and believable acting. You guys did a great job here. Thanks so much for sharing.
