If you want to be successful as a O/O you better be prepared to work on your equipment. This not the job for a shirt and tie. Great job Mr. Marvin🎉🙏🏾👍🏾
I pulled reefers for 30 years. 1 dont run high risk loads on trailers with old high hour units. That unit right there Im guessing but its probably got 9000 hours on it at least? I never ran a reefer out of warranty the risk has always been to high but today its even higher. have a charging post behind your sleeper always pulling a reefer then you can run the reefer off your truck electric system if you have a alternator or battery failure. Just use a set of jumper cables between the truck and trailer. When you buy a new trailer order the largest Reefer unit you can buy. Also put the full monitor in the corner of the trailer that read temp not just a red or green light. Also have your alternators with pulleys already on them. I have had them where you couldnt get it off the old one for the new on and carry one for both the truck and trailer. I also always paid at the beacon to wash the reefer engine when I had the truck engine done it just saves alot of corossion headaches. Stay away from the high dollar loads that unit will let you down again, which could cost alot more than a 100 grand. good luck tough world out there wish you the best

an exact 💯 👌 replay of my situation a few years back in Norristown PA ice cream 🍦 load/reefer shut down/ disaster strikes... this video just gave me flash backs glad you got it resolved cause Bro i know too well about this get that alternator rebuilt and keep it on the truck as a back up another thing i always did after my incident was i kept spare fuel filters and extra drive belts for the reefer with me..
How did it turn out? Did you lose the load all together? Claim? I'm gonna order a back up off Amazon. I recently changed my belts during the summer. They still look new. I don't have backup belts currently, but I normally do. I do have back belts for my truck though.
They have a tool you can install on your reefer and use an app. It gives you peace of mind. They charge around $20 a month. Your thermo king and carrier have it. I know that at Carrier, they charge $1200 to install it. It gives you warnings, and you can stop and start your reefer anywhere.
Hey Bro be careful, if the ice cream temperature rises to 27 degrees ice crystals usually form as the ice cream re-freezes which will mess with it's consistency.
Thank God we didn't get to that point. 29° was the highest it got to, and it was only that high for the duration it took me to change the alternator. It was a good save. Just in time.
I can believe it. Buying a used reefer trailer and hauling high value freight like ice cream would be a risky business? Just imagine having this happen in July or August? Very risky.
I've been hauling ice for years... FYI, a brand new trailer fresh off the manufacturing line can do the same thing. It's all made by man! I guess you've never seen a brand new truck broken down on the side of the road, huh?
Hey Marv you right God makes no mistakes and he will take care of people. One thing I noticed when you was changing it out was that I don’t think you put the fan on that goes behind the pulley. I think you left it on the old alternator. If so you might want to put it on. It keeps the inside of the alternator from overheating
@jerrywhittington3220 Amen to that Jerry. Good eye, btw. The newer alternator has the fan built in on the inside. It's right in front of the coils. It's a much better design. Good eye though.
Gee whizz man, all you have to do is quickly buy a set of long jumper cables and run them from your tractor to the reefer unit and hammer down until you get the load off,
@billtodd6509 That's plan B or C. That should not be plan A. Your plan A can go south quickly. Having jumper cables running from the truck to the reefer while going down the road is asking for more problems. At the beginning of the video, I clearly stated that I could just run the jumper cable from my truck to the reefer. However, I trust my abilities to change an alternator in under 20 minutes. If I wasn't recording, that would have been a 10-minute job.
I don't really go deep into Black Mountain. I'm pretty sure there are areas that are still recovering. I'm only about 2 miles off the freeway. Those roads are fine. The receiver I delivered to had water all the way up to the loading dock doors during the flooding. They had a lot of damages. The parking lot had to be repaved.
This is the 2nd comment about the fan. However, the fan is built in on the new one. You can't see it. It's behind the housing. The other one had an external fan. Good o eye, though.
You never want to speed up a hill. That's how you crack the head or end up with a blown head gasket. Giving the truck full throttle up hill equal high exhaust temperature (Pyro). That's how you damage your motor. Go watch the video uploaded from 2 weeks ago titled "he cut me off". That's a 5 mile long 6% grade uphill with 40k in my trailer. That's how you climb a hill while loaded. It's never a race.
@ nice to know thanks for the knowledge. I try to pull a hill as fast as I can but I did get told by an old timer it’s not in my best interests to be pulling hills in full throttle
Your truck sounding amazing as always 💪 Nice one for saving the day with the ice cream. One of the many reasons I enjoy your videos is how informative they are. It was interesting hearing your thought processes throughout you repairing your reffer 👍 And as always, stay safe, stay awesome and I appreciate the upload 🫡

The next upload will be 1 hr long just letting big Pete do the talking as I chime in every 10 mins or so. Dropping tomorrow or Saturday.
1 thing I'm learning is to be able to fix your equipment i watch the guys on my job change my fuel filter it took 3hr cause the couldn't get it to pime you change a alternator out quickly thats whats up
Was it a fuel filter on a reefer or a truck? If it's a reefer, there's a certain way to prime it. You have to leave the fuel line slightly cracked while priming it. That will push out all the air.
If you want to be successful as a O/O you better be prepared to work on your equipment. This not the job for a shirt and tie. Great job Mr. Marvin🎉🙏🏾👍🏾
Absolutely. If someone is not mechanically inclined, being an owner operator should be the further thing from their mind.

That alternator will fail soon. You don’t have a fan on the alt to cool the alt down.
This is the 2nd comment about the fan. However, the fan is built in on the new one. You can't see it. It's behind the housing. The other one had an external fan. Good o eye, though.
@@presy_jay as a tk master tech I have never seen any of our alternators that have a built in fan.
@@presy_jay I guess I stand corrected. Went back and looked closer in the video and I seen it. I have never seen one like that before
@KrisKnight91 it's a much better design.
@@presy_jay is that an actual tk alternator is or it an aftermarket one?
I didnt watch the entire video because im busy, but always carry a heavy wire to run from you truck to trailer just in case.
25' 0 gauge wire on deck.
stay cool hauling refigerants
No warranty on those batteries?
The battery in the reefer?
How fast do you pull a hill with that 6nz at 40k lbs
@@cesaravila1313 Never good to climb a long grade at full throttle. Pay attention to your gauges.
Boss Hogg tingz
You couldn't call thermo king? Do they have emergency roadside?
@keithmorgan4883 They do. But when you're hauling ice cream, it's go time. Can't wait around.
You keep records of hours of installation of a new alternator and removal of an old alternator.
👍👍👍
Your truck sounding amazing as always 💪 Nice one for saving the day with the ice cream. One of the many reasons I enjoy your videos is how informative they are. It was interesting hearing your thought processes throughout you repairing your reffer 👍 And as always, stay safe, stay awesome and I appreciate the upload 🫡
@matthewhoward4610 appreciated it, Matt. Seeing that you enjoyed this one, you're gonna really love the next one. Let's just say, I let the truck do 80% the talking. The next upload will be 1 hr long just letting big Pete do the talking as I chime in every 10 mins or so. Dropping tomorrow or Saturday.
@presy_jay oh cool 😎 I can't wait to watch it 🙂
This is save your azz video. 🤣
@presy_jay it was on the truck
ill be getting my CDLs in Jan 2025
Best wishes on your journey. Be safe.
