Thank you so much. Whenever I need information about color mediums etc, I always search for a review in your channel first. Totaly love and appreciate your honesty.
I don’t listen to your voice to fall asleep. But when I’m cleaning I love having your videos playing. I watch ones on the mediums that I’m currently using when I have time to sit down and focus. But while I’m putzing around the house, I ‘watch’ your videos about mediums that I haven’t explored yet. After hearing you talk about them, it helps me determine if I want to check them out in the future. Thank you for showing me new (to me at least) items!
When pencils are this expensive, we expect you to nit-pick the heck out of them (not that you nit-pick, lol.) And as of 2-8-21 they’re still on sale at Blick for $2.05/per!
I love these pencils and the Derwent Drawing too. Maybe I might not have bought them if Derwent had just extended the Drawing range to include some proper reds. Being nerdy, I did a colour comparison of the Lightfast range with Derwent's other colour pencils and counted at least 40 colours that exist in the other sets. I have to say I have struggled to understand why people love Prismacolor so much, I prefer a harder pencil and get on much better with the lay down characteristics of oil based pencils such as Polychromos pencils. So between the Lightfast with Derwent's lovely earthy colour range and Polychromos brighter colours, I have my dream team of quality colour pencils.
Thanks for this review Lindsay. Your reviews (along with The Art Gear Guide) are the most reliable and thorough. I absolutely love these pencils. The colours are so beautiful and layer and blend really well. I find they are more or less interchangeable with the Derwent Drawing Pencils. I would love it if Derwent produced more colours in this range.
Yeeey! Loved this review, Lindsay. I live in Romania and we have good supply from Derwent. I just discovered Derwent Drawing and Graphitint last year after testing several brands. So hearing that Derwent lightfast are similar to Detwent Drawing make me really happy. I also love inktense for the way they feel. I don't do exclusive color pencil work, but I do use them together with watercolor so I need them to be soft and opaque.
So amazing to me that so many options are available; just never considered.... Your reviews are thoughtful and clearly represent knowledge and experience. It's all impressive
I love that idea of strengthening the plastic. I keep all my pencil in a clear acrylic tiered stand on my desk and have them divided by colour no matter what brand.
Ohhhh Lindsay...you’ve awoken the “art supply monster” in me 😂 I have the 12 pack and have wanted to get a larger set. They’re gorgeous! Putting this on the want list along with about 50 other things!
I bought the full set off eBay and the company sent me the literature for it for free (the book that came with the 100 set). They have wonderful customer service
Thanks for the review. These definitely would be too precious to me to get a set but I love some of the colors. I might pick up a few next time I order from Blick.
I love the derwent drawing. Just purchased the 100 wood box set from blick for 295. It was $4 cheaper than the tim. Cant wait until they arrive! Thanks for the awesome review!
I remember you mentioning this before, I think. I’m happy with my Prismas and Polychromos. I don’t see much fading, and honestly I’m not that good so I don’t frame or put up anything. Still, good to see your review!
This is really really helpful. I have been lusting after the Lightfasts, but as I already have the Drawing pencils (gorgeous!) and the Procolour, I couldn't justify it. You have inspired me to put some effort into identifying which Derwents I already have that have high lightfastness (I printed all the colour charts from the Derwent website), and to just fill in the gaps (across all the ranges really). Definitely purples and pinks missing, but browns really solidly covered already. Fabulous, and sensible, advice.
thank you Lindsay, very informative i love all your reviews and i look or search for them before making purchases mostly because of your honest opinion, you haven't steered me in the wrong direction yet !!
I love Derwent products and their customer service. Just send them an email with picture and they will send replacement. I did purchase my 100 set from cult pens to usa and even with exchange rate i paid around $250.
I think many colors are backordered but you can order them at the 50% off and they will ship them when in stock (in the 12th I think) half of my singles were backordered. I highly recommend grabbing the pinks, reds and purples to add to your other sets as those colors tend to be fugitive.
@@thefrugalcrafter I am among the lucky. Blick is 10 minutes from me. I can get lost in heaven there and they often have stuff that isn't available on the web. I have to own that Dusty Pink. I think it's so pretty. I have been dreaming of a rose gold blend that I haven't perfected yet. I am thinking that Dusty Pink is the missing element.
I have been considering buying some of these for months and kept talking myself out of it due to the price. So obviously I ordered some after you mentioned the sale at Blick. I am so excited! I mostly do use colored pencil over watercolors, but since I use lightfast watercolors, it is worth it for me to have lightfast pencils.
WOW! Another fantastic review! I'm not really into colored pencils, but, your review really gets me pumped to try them (the smaller set). In fact, I bought the 72 set of prisma color pencils a few years ago, on sale, at Joann's. You were correct, I do love them. I love your review's! Tfs, Lindsay.
I have all the high end pencils-not full sets in some cases- and a lot of cheaper. In my opinion these are the best in the world at the moment. The best pencil colour of all is the nightshade. i went through one in the first week I had my first set.
All of the colored pencils, pastels, etc are the same colors from faber castell just for peoples info. That way these products can work together and use the same colors
Had a look at the price here in NZ and one pencil is $24 way out of my price range, loved the info and got quite excited I guess I will wait until the price drops by like 80%. Great info thanks for the look at them.
@@thefrugalcrafter I wouldn't regret doing it because budget brands are good if you don't really care what happens to it/if it lasts. But that said, it is good that you're concerned with the inconsistencies and drop in quality that some are having.
I purchased the twelve pencil set and liked them very much so I decided to buy the whole set of seventy two.The pencils are great. They remind me of the Luminence pencils. My problem is that for the expense, there aren’t enough colors. Now I discovered that Derwent has brought out a set of one hundred pencils.
That is weird right? The inktense pencils and blocks have that too. I put a cardboard piece under the flimsy holders. I mean. Their products are awesome. But it still annoys me.
Hello All. Today's date is 04/24/2022. I just placed an order for the 100 pencil set in wooden box from Cult Pens. They are retailing for $278.16 and are 10% off as of today. Free shipping to the USA, and after taxes the total cost was $271. I've been going back and forth on buying these and at that price I couldn't resist. Individual pencils are aroun $3.25 if I remember correctly. I hope this helps anyone still debating this purchase. Please note that the prices fluctuate, so if they aren't on sale when you see this message check back in a few days. The base price was $282 last week and it dropped a few dollars, but every bit helps. Have a great day!
Derwent is excellent! I had an issue with 2 pencils once which were broken. With that amount of money, they need to be good! Ha ha. I contacted the company and they sent me a whole new set (was the 36 lightfast set). I only really wanted the 2 pencils, but no complaints!
Hi Lindsay, thank you for your informative review. You picked up on one of my pet hates which is poor quality pencil tins and plastic inners. I was gifted a set of 60 Fabre Castell Polychromos in October. The inners no longer have the lifting tags that you spoke of and the lid came away from the box within a few weeks. I have recently bought Prismacolor Premier and found the tin to be fine but the plastic liners are really floppy to say the least. The best boxes that I have encountered are for Caran D’Ache which are amazing and hold each pencil in a foam groove. The lids are lined with foam too. These boxes are cardboard rather than metal and a pleasure to use. I love your channel and the wide variety of tips and techniques that you bring us. Fantastic work, thank you so much.
Thank you for the amazingly helpful review. And your mention of the Derwent Drawing Pencils is a bonus. You're right about weighing the price of the Lightfasts against the real need. Again, thank you for your wonderful videos.
love derwent pencils and these look great..... am sure for a pro colour pencil artist they would be great but as a person that does not do much colour pencil work they are way too expensive for me but if i did do more pencil work then it would be a key purchase for me, tfs
This is a little off-topic, but thanks for showing a little of your process with learning new skills. I think it’s easy for creative people to avoid showing anything but their most polished skills, and it’s refreshing to see that modeled.
Dont like the tins. Artwork is well drawn but an eyeball looking at me when I grab the tin would be off putting. Will just get a few to compliment my other brands. To many of them look too much the same. They are lovely to use. Great review thanks.
I'm watching this again because I'm still on the fence and waiting for a sale. I wanted to also mention that I have an A5 Filofax that I keep my swatches in for all my supplies. It's useful when I need to figure out what colors I still need. It's extra helpful when I go to a store because I might be there for one thing and find a sale on something else and I can check my book. It's good to keep notes of things Im running low on, too. If someone wants to try this and has pamphlets like the one that came with the colored pencils featured here, you could hole punch the end page so you can still open the pamphlet without having to take it out. (and add those little reinforcers if the pages aren't too thick.)
I think I bought three pencils in the violet blue range about a year ago to see if I liked these. Like you, figuring they’d fill a hole in most ranges where there just aren’t good colors in the range or they are fugitive. I like soft pencils because I have arthritis but these were very easy to use and lay down color with little pressure. Great review Lindsay!
I noticed that I can smear/smudge them easily, which concerns me, but I also love them. My concern is that you need to be careful while using them so they won’t unintentionally smear. Also because they are so soft that you could really go through these pencils, and they are pricey. I have the 100 set, I bought them with my tax refund, lol. The softness of the lead is what concerns me with holbein too, they are both gorgeous pencils though. Holbeins cost even more than lightfast, I bought the holbeins with last year’s refund. As far as cost effectiveness, my Faber Castel Polychromos will last me forever because of the firmness of the lead. They still manage to be buttery even though they are firm leads.
12 of the colors in Derwent lightfast pencils are also in Derwent drawing sets. However, there is I different feel to them. The core of the drawing set is really big. I store them together in a BTSKY pencil case purchased on Amazon, the kind of case that has multiple zippered sections and opens like a book. The 167 pencil size case is nice because you can organize the colors however you like and there is room for some backup duplicate pencils in frequently used colors.
Thanks for mentioning this, I have been trying to work out how to store my pencils most easily, I hate the pencil racks that stand them up but I hate storing them in boxes or drawers because it's hard to find the colour you want. Going to get one of these
Hi Lindsay! Blick has these on sale again today (along with some other Derwent lines) in case you need to restock. I was so sad I missed this sale the first time around. I may have overcompensated throwing ALL THE THINGS in the cart this time 😂. Thanks for such a thorough review!!
Hi Lindsay! Question: could the different levels of layering be more about the type of paper or is it just the pencil colors? As a beginner, I’m just really curious. Thank you. Also, I love All your videos. You are an incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable person who shares so much wonderful content. Thank you for being so thorough and awesome. 🎉
My only complaint with Derwent customer service is that I never got a response. I was gifted a set of 36 watercolor pencils and 1 had a large tear in the wood casing and another was split on either side where the wood casing was put together. I wrote the company to ask if they would replace them and even sent photographs of the damage. They have yet to respond and the email was sent on 12JAN21. No one has ever replied to my email and I even followed it up with an email on 16JAN21. Love their products, but very disappointed in their customer service.
I was thinking of purchasing 72ct but your review was so helpful. Thanks again for your insight. I have the Drawing set and will pick-up open stock of colors I love of the Lightfast.Did I mention I also have the 72ct the Artist pencils. I'll be supplementing my pencils collection. I've been cured of FSS( FULL SET SYNDROME), it's an awful disease.😁😜😘
You can build a lightfast set buy looking at the lightfast ratings on the artist set and combining it with the drawing and then choosing colors you dont have lightfast options for. I don't have their artist line, I think the lead is firmer, but they all should play nice together.
What I'm getting here is that if you already own the Luminance and the Derwent Drawing, there's no real reason to get these. But if you don't, they look like a great combo mix of those two. Man, some of the packaging on these major brands REALLY makes me appreciate how much thought Caran d'Ache puts into their packing, though. It's basically flawless packaging on everything I've ever gotten from them. Even their little tube tin of graphite pencils has foam padding on both the underside of the lid and the bottom of the tube!
yes, I don't have Luminance but I hear Lightfast has a few saturated purples and pinks that luminance does not so you might want to add a couple of those for the brights that are usually fugative.
@@thefrugalcrafter I heard procolour were harder like polys. The chromaflow are supposed to be softer and very pigmented. I gave in and pre-ordered them. Lol. I wanted to wait for a bigger set but oh well.
Hi Lindsey. I really want these pencils. One day. I have the full sets of most of the high end pencils. I have always used an electric Bostitch pencil sharpener. I got it for about 13.00 at Walmart maybe 3 years ago. I have a much better point Its a long and sharp one.. :I know some sharpeners eat up your pencils, This one doesn't. The Derwent electric eraser is the best. .I Look forward to getting these pencils one day. I thank you for the demo.
Thank you so much for the review!!! For someone like me who's really willing to buy these pencils this review was much needed! These are pretty expensive so I would really like to dig in all the aspects. Can you please please make a 5 min video on comparing derwent lightfast with derwent coloursoft.??? Please !!?
I have the full set of Derwent coloursofts and was sent 1 Derwent lightfast pencil sample, and upon trying that 1 lightfast pencil I found that it layed down almost identical to the coloursofts, both feel dry also
at 2.05 a pencil you can get all 100 at Dickblick for 217.30 buying singles that is with tax each pencil with tax for my area equals 2.17 . the 100 set is 235 without tax 249.1 with 6% sales tax for my area. Hobby Lobby has the 12 pack for 49.95 with 40% coupon which is still good till 28th of this month is like 3 .00 difference than blick 26.66 even with tax like 28.25 better than hobby lobby but you have to make 45 purchase for the free shipping. I have the 24 drawing and sometimes they feel creamy other times drier or slight drag but better than the old ones without the colored tip on end. enjoyed the video.
Well i ordered the box set today. I got the 12 and they were wonderful. Unfortunately, they are backordered till May, but i'm a May baby so a gift for me, from me. At $235 for the box set as of today, it is cheaper per pencil than getting the 72 set.
Im an artist/collector. I have all the top sets except a derwent. I see that they have the Lightfast and Chromaflow. I was wondering if there is a huge difference between the two other than lightfastness? I have no experience with either and want a good set for my collection.
You can also find the paint number in that boklet (like PY3 if you want to see if you got a ”clean” color or a mixed color.) #Colornerd #Colournerd ;))
Thanks for this test, now I need these pencils immediately 🤣👍🏻 Very helpfully the test of coverage on black paper, thank you 💐 because that is very important because I work on toned paper. I wonder if the lightfastness is really that good as the manufacturer promises because they are so expensive. Have you already experience with fading?
None whatsoever (but to be honest I've never had a problem with my pevcils) buy they have t had time to fade. I would 100% trust derwents lightfast claims. Look an their website, they have honest ratings for everything even if it's not favorable. You are in good hands with Derwent.
You also use Derwent Drawing. I love these so much ❤️, they are may absolute favourites and I have many other expensive brands but the coverage is unreachable. I also love the thick cores. Colour hues are wonderful, too. The only fail is the small colour range ☹️
They used to have a range called Derwent Signature which was 60 colors I think, lightfast and thick cored like this which were also lightfast and brighter. I think they were sold with the drawing range but they discontinued them. They were a predecessor to the lightfast range i think. I liked them.
I hate the Derwent tins. I ended up putting mine in a case. I have the Inktense and Artists sets and part of me wishes I still had the tins, as I like keeping my pencils in nice tins, but the Derwent cases are not fantastic. I am keeping my Polychromeo in their tin, as those trays are great. The Derwent Artist pencils are muted too. I was disappointed that I didn't have a really beautiful bright red. I tried a strawberry with them, and while those pencils are great quality, the reds just weren't bright enough. Maybe I could add a small amount of yellow to brighten the reds up. From the looks of it, the lightfast might have the same colours. I guess one is the wax based and the other is the oil based versions of those colours. They actually do have some beautiful light colours though that I think aren't in other sets.
@@thefrugalcrafter I don't have that range unfortunately, but I did go over Mickey Mouse from the Thomas Kinkade coloring books with a red Polychromos after the Derwents reds were too dull for his shorts and didn't look the way I wanted and boy was the Faber Castell red beautiful. From that moment, I had a new favourite set of pencils. I have the 72 pack of Derwents and it seems the 120 wooden box is the one that has the nicer reds. which are also some of the lightfast ones from that range.
I find it disappointing that, even with the additional 28 to make a 100 colours, there still is no vibrant, mid-tone purple. All the purples are so dark or very light. Yes, I know you can blend and mix to make the colour you want, but still would be nice to have that in one pencil without having to do that. Besides this the colour range looks fantastic.
You're right, I don't have this set but when I saw the swatches online (even those 100 colours), it seems to me also some proper pink is missing in Lightfast. I don't get it why pinks and purples are considered "unnatural", there are so many magenta flowers to draw, for example. Vibrant colours are needed for botanical artists. (That's why I'll probably choose Polychromos.)
Just ordered these, and i love love love them, but for the price they really need to up their quality control (and packaging!). 72 pencils, 5 pencils with issues..
Came back to watch this review again, I bought some open stock and have been really enjoying using them. But, I do really like vibrant tones and these are very muted, which i also love. What would your suggestion be for pencils that are really vibrant, do not have to be lightfast? I bought a small set of polychromos just to try and see, this is when i noticed how muted the lightfast are when i compared my swatches.
thank you so incredibly much. The drawing of your daughter is absolutely beautiful! May i ask, did you have any issues with any of the colours? its almost as if one of my pencils i have open stock is blotchy (the mars violet )?
I tried to pick up the extra 24 colors that don't come in the 76 set since they were on sale and "conveniently" every single one was backordered on Blicks website. I guess they won't be on sale anymore when they come back in stock on March 11th....😒
You. An order them and pay the $2.05 and they will bill you the sale price when they ship. Half of what I bought was backordered. No worries as long ad you order when the sale is on and don't mind waiting.
I like lightfast better better but it depends on what you want. Procolour are very hard and dry feeling. They are designed to reproduce well so best for work to be scanned. Lightfast are softer and smoother and mix well. More artsy and painterly so i prefer these.
My experience with Derwent pencils is that the paint on the barrel keeps peeling off, including the brand-new ones. I think they're incredibly expensive for what you get, they're definitely not an earth-shattering colouring experience....
When they first came out a few years ago I got the 24 colored set, and loved them so much that I immediately bought the 36 set...this was, of course, before the 78 and 100 sets came out...Now I feel like if i get either of the bigger sets Id have too many duplicates and personally I prefer not to have duplicate art supplies, in all mediums...but who know what the future holds...lol... Do you have any Derwent colorsoft pencils? If so, do you have a review on them? If not they fantastic...Anway, sorry for the long comment, thanks for sharing, great video. Much love♥️
I do have them and love them, I'm not sure if I have ever reviewed them tho. The open stock lightfast pencils are on sale for $2.05 open stock so you can get the others you want with no duplicates at less than what they cost per pencil in sets.
I love the Derwent Drawing pencils and the graphitint ones. I’m really confused about the differences between all their others. The lightfast seem really nice, but I’m just an amateur and don’t require lightfastness to that extent. Which do you think are comparable to the drawing ones without the Lightfast price tag? And do they differ that much from the German ones you reviewed lately? Couldn’t resist those for the price and selection. I don’t need more pencils, (not that I won’t get some again) but I’m sure I’m not the only one confused about all these. The Caran D’ache Luminance seem very nice also, but even more expensive.
The drawing pencils are soft and opaque like coloursoft as well. They are less than lightfast. Try micing the drawing pencils with the brutfuners and see what you think before buying more. They might be just eat you are wanting.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thanks Lindsay! They’re probably more than sufficient for what I need. I really shouldn’t buy another art supply (aside from paper) or art book. I can stay busy and learning the rest of my life from what I have. I’m a sucker for beautiful colors and books though. I really appreciate your thorough reviews and try to use your links when I do buy.
Thank you, great honest review. I bought some open stock because of this review and the Blick sale, and decided to sample a few others open stock, now without a tin for any of these expensive pencils, what is the best way to store them for easy use? Thanks
Hello! I want to ask you... are they really worth buying? I say this because I have seen an Artist, who tried them on Strathmore Toned paper, and they did not mix with each other. That's why I ask you the question... I would like to buy them, because of their lightfastness... but I want to know if they are really worth it, because they are very expensive. And more if they do not mix with each other.🤔
They are worth it if lightfastness is important to you. I find them to mix Well but I hane not used tham on the Strathmore mixed media paper. I save them for 100% cotton to keep everything archival because they are expenxive (on Strathmore I use pencils with markets and non lightfast stuff so I use cheaper pencils) so that is the main advantage I think.
@@thefrugalcrafter oh! Ok, maybe this is the problem! Because I see your work, and Lisa artwork too, and it looks beautiful! Many thanks, to answer my question, and clear my doubt 🥰💞❤️
I had been eyeing these pencils for quite some time on the Amazon India site, but never bought it because of the high price, around $150 after conversion. Just couldn't justify buying them when I already had other sets for me to use. However one day they was a more than 50% reduction at the price. Not sure why, might be because it had been the last one remaining in the stock. And that was all the justification I needed to buy them then and there, a decision I don't regret as these are wonderful to work with. The slightly muted colour selection suits my style and preference for animal portraits. However yes, the flimsy plastic trays are horrendous, why Derwent, just why? Will have to try your tip about sticking cardboard behind them for more stability.
I have a question. If you know the answer PLEASE, let me know. I bought the Derwent Drawing and I love how smooth they are, but they are earthly tones, so I wanted to buy some other colors to have a more complete color range, and I bought the Derwent Coloursoft, thinking since they are called colourSOFT, they will be the same. But the formula is not the same, therefore they dont feel the same. Are these Lightfast really compare to the Derwent Drawing? Im talking about the formula. But I see that these are expensive, so do you know of some other brand that feels like the Derwent Drawing?! Some brand I can buy open stock.
Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering if you could only choose one brand of colored pencils to use which would that be? (I'm looking to buy new colored pencils, I'm debating between prismacolor and polychromos)

@@ColorMyWorld Lucky! I have never been in a Blick, Boston is the closest location to me I think and that is 5 hours away.
Another great review Lindsay! Thank you
All of the colored pencils, pastels, etc are the same colors from faber castell just for peoples info. That way these products can work together and use the same colors
Had a look at the price here in NZ and one pencil is $24 way out of my price range, loved the info and got quite excited I guess I will wait until the price drops by like 80%. Great info thanks for the look at them.
What?!? I thought $4 was bad! You might look at Jackson's art out of uk if you are really interested and see how bad shipping is.
@@thefrugalcrafter that’s a great idea think I will have a look see.
Love when you do reviews for higher end products. I don't care about those cheaper made in China ones.
I'm starting to regret reviewing the budget brands as some inconsistencies have come to light over the past year...
@@thefrugalcrafter but! You are the “frugal crafter!” 😅 that being said, i have bought some expensive products you have reviewed 😁 no regrets!
Do you know if they only sell the 100 pencils in the wooden box? It’s very expensive! Hoping I can find the set in a tin so I can get it cheaper lol.
Wonderful review! Your goldfish is fabulous. Thank you.
That is weird right? The inktense pencils and blocks have that too. I put a cardboard piece under the flimsy holders. I mean. Their products are awesome. But it still annoys me.
Me too! I'm going to do the same. Awesome pencils tho!
Aww that is such a beautiful drawing of your daughter !
Thank you!
Great price!
@@thefrugalcrafter yes! I wonder if they're discounted for Mother's Day since it's coming up.
Derwent is excellent! I had an issue with 2 pencils once which were broken. With that amount of money, they need to be good! Ha ha. I contacted the company and they sent me a whole new set (was the 36 lightfast set). I only really wanted the 2 pencils, but no complaints!
Great customer service!
Hi Lindsay- the drawing of your daughter is beautiful! I think these pencils were made for you. 💕
I think so too! (more over prismas!)
Thanks!
Thank you for your support!
I love this review it makes me so grateful I have my mums set from the 60s in its original box makes me appreciate how good the box is
I think I would love these. Great review!
Glad you like them!
Great information!! Thank you so very much! Blessings Cheral
And I picked up the set when you did😁
Nice!
Love the goldfish🤭 but I love this video too so much good information too❣️💕
Hi Lindsey, I watched your fish picture , really pretty! I like all the information you provide! Thank you for sharing!
Going to get one of these
Thanks Lindsay!
Hi Lindsay! Blick has these on sale again today (along with some other Derwent lines) in case you need to restock. I was so sad I missed this sale the first time around. I may have overcompensated throwing ALL THE THINGS in the cart this time 😂. Thanks for such a thorough review!!
Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!
love the wa you evaluated derwent.. also you sold me on subscribing!
Yes both van effect layering.
Try sending a message in instagram, it may take a few days but they should respond. I bet they will replace them.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you for the response and advisement. I will give it a try. Very much enjoy your channel. Have a great night!
Same!
Love my Luminance, hey, hey!
yes, I don't have Luminance but I hear Lightfast has a few saturated purples and pinks that luminance does not so you might want to add a couple of those for the brights that are usually fugative.
Hi Lindsay love your review have the 100 set found them bulky and hard will persevere with them thanks 😊
They are releasing a new set called Chromaflow on the 22nd. I'm interested in those too. Wax based.
I'm very curious about them! I saw them on the derwent india instagram. Only 24 colors tho, I wonder why? I also want to try procolor
@@thefrugalcrafter yeah I was wondering why only 24 too. But I do like wax better. Usually.
@@vernabailey3671 me too, I really thinking about procolor too (like I need more pencils)
@@thefrugalcrafter lol. I never “need” them.
Please !!?
I have the full set of Derwent coloursofts and was sent 1 Derwent lightfast pencil sample, and upon trying that 1 lightfast pencil I found that it layed down almost identical to the coloursofts, both feel dry also
The coloursoft feel sofyer and creamer to me.

at 2.05 a pencil you can get all 100 at Dickblick for 217.30 buying singles that is with tax each pencil with tax for my area equals 2.17 . the 100 set is 235 without tax 249.1 with 6% sales tax for my area.
Thank you! Just bought a set today
Well i ordered the box set today. I got the 12 and they were wonderful. Unfortunately, they are backordered till May, but i'm a May baby so a gift for me, from me. At $235 for the box set as of today, it is cheaper per pencil than getting the 72 set.
You can get 72 colors for 120.00 in singapore.
Im an artist/collector. I have all the top sets except a derwent. I see that they have the Lightfast and Chromaflow. I was wondering if there is a huge difference between the two other than lightfastness? I have no experience with either and want a good set for my collection.
The lightfast set is better for archival quality, but Chromaflow is much softer. Lightgast is much better made and thicker too.
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks
You can also find the paint number in that boklet (like PY3 if you want to see if you got a ”clean” color or a mixed color.) #Colornerd #Colournerd ;))

Thanks for this test, now I need these pencils immediately 🤣👍🏻
Very helpfully the test of coverage on black paper, thank you 💐 because that is very important because I work on toned paper.
You are inspirational. Thank you for sharing your experiences
I currently have the Derwent Coloursoft set, are these better? I want super intense color
The maine benefit to these pencils is longevity in your art. They are not more vibrant than coloursoft, and they are not as soft.
Try Derwent red in the lightfast range. It's awesome!
Thanks Lindsay, great review
Wow
Those are so cool!
The most opaque white in my opinion is caran’d ache luminance
I've been veeeery curious about these pencils 🤔 all I use is prisma color premier and I love them 😊
I find it disappointing that, even with the additional 28 to make a 100 colours, there still is no vibrant, mid-tone purple.
Great review! Thanks for sharing!
It's 1 of my dream Color Pencil..
What product are the swatches for at 2:04?
Arteza gouache 60 set I beleive
Just ordered these, and i love love love them, but for the price they really need to up their quality control (and packaging!). 72 pencils, 5 pencils with issues..
Came back to watch this review again, I bought some open stock and have been really enjoying using them. But, I do really like vibrant tones and these are very muted, which i also love. What would your suggestion be for pencils that are really vibrant, do not have to be lightfast? I bought a small set of polychromos just to try and see, this is when i noticed how muted the lightfast are when i compared my swatches.
Prismacolor are very vibrant as well as coloursoft.
thank you so incredibly much. The drawing of your daughter is absolutely beautiful! May i ask, did you have any issues with any of the colours? its almost as if one of my pencils i have open stock is blotchy (the mars violet )?
Not yet!
Hi, are this bettee than procolor ? Pigment level, laydown, thx
I like lightfast better better but it depends on what you want. Procolour are very hard and dry feeling. They are designed to reproduce well so best for work to be scanned. Lightfast are softer and smoother and mix well. More artsy and painterly so i prefer these.
Beats me why manufacturers can put a lot into making a really nice product, charge sky high prices and then display them in flimsy packaging :-/
My experience with Derwent pencils is that the paint on the barrel keeps peeling off, including the brand-new ones. I think they're incredibly expensive for what you get, they're definitely not an earth-shattering colouring experience....
Thanks Lindsay 😊
Owww I had the same problem with the Oyster pencil. I received another one as well. I’m from Brazil. =)
Thank you, great honest review. I bought some open stock because of this review and the Blick sale, and decided to sample a few others open stock, now without a tin for any of these expensive pencils, what is the best way to store them for easy use? Thanks
It depends on what you have for space. Jars are nice if you want to keep them out all the time.
Are there still 100 colours overall, or new ones have appeared beyond that?
Yes, 100 and I don't think there are plans to expand.
The lightfast are close but not the same. I think coloursoft is the most similar. Koh I noor feel similar but they are not that soft.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you so much for your answer! 🥰
